It’s obvious the interceptions overshadowed his shortcomings at safety. The hope was that he’d improve the more he played the position. I think he would work best in a creative scheme that allows him to be a hybrid nickel-safety.

I’m guessing his agent was hyping up the six interceptions he had. And that’s what he was trying to bank his value on. Whereas the film showed that he wasn’t as great as the interception total was. And interceptions year to year fluctuate. So relying on the fact that he had to get six interception again, wasn’t something the Eagles are willing to pay for

I still think John Johnson makes the most sense for the Eagles in terms of free agent safeties. He played in a similar scheme with the Rams. Eddie had a lot of success. He also isn’t going to affect your comp picks as he was released by the Browns.

I’m a fan. He’s made the lions relevant again, I think they still have lots of potential too

There’s still a possibility to re-sign him next offseason, which I wouldn’t be against, depending on our cap situation. But we’ll have Jalen/Devonta/Dickerson extensions looming

But safety is back to being a major concern

Nah. Time to let CJGJ die. Either Howie had 0 interest or he made a dumb choice to not come back to a pretty stacked secondary for 1 year because of ego. I don’t know of any scenario that would suddenly make Howie want to pay for him.

A guy who gets turnovers like that isn't easy to replace.

Lions are going to be really good this year which feels strange to say.

Eagles turn attention to Wagner now?

Yup there was talk that he wanted a contract that would make him the highest paid safety in the league then he scoffs at the eagles offer and signs a year year prove it deal for 8 mil???

What a clown! If he doesn't want to be here  Good riddance at least don't have to hear about all his drams anymore, he definitely over valued himself, good luck to him, would have liked to have kept him if he wanted to be here but it is what it is.

I think he scoffed at the Eagles offer. But then the market told him he wasn’t going to get any multiyear deal that was worth what he thought. So instead of taking the Eagles multiyear deal that he thought was extremely undervalued that he would take a one-year contract and prove his value this upcoming season so that he can get paid the next season. I think also, the Eagles probably would’ve offered them something similar to that for a year but at that point I think he was done with the Eagles cause he didn’t love the fact that they " lowballed” him

John Johnson isn’t exciting. I would be more comfortable adding Byard and then also someone like Johnson if anything but not him as the top safety.

Sad to lose CJGJ. He was a fan favorite. He maybe wasn't the best safety, but he brought some juice, some energy, and made some plays on D. We'll be okay though... I don't know who will start at safety though. Maybe a guy like Amos makes sense. The draft is certainly in play too.

We're going to get Adrian Amos for the vet min as a plug in.

I think we could see Amos and Mills.  The Eagles need multiple safeties.  I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles make some sort of trade for a young safety.  You have to wonder how much back and forth the Eagles had with Chauncey over the course of the last week.  Did they make an offer and say take it or leave it?  Did he come back to the Eagles and say Detroit offered $8 million, will you match?

You have to think, knowing Howie, he's turning every stone and while the safety market dried up he may have been figuring out alternative and possibly better ways to fill safety.  Eitehr that or Wallace is starting.

How long before we see Rodney McLeod back.

Was about to say, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Howie couldn't match that? The hell?

Thats interesting....

He eventually settled for a 1 year deal, as suspected.

I have a feeling we could have, and likely did match, but Gardner-Johnson got insulted throughout the process and decided he was going elsewhere regardless.

I want the past two weeks of refreshing his Twitter and Instagram back.

Kidding, but this whole charade was a giant waste of time all around and we missed on basically every safety out there than could make an immediate impact.

F CJGJ at this point.

Yup CJGJ messing around for so long kept the eagles from making any offers to other safeties, Howie should have cut bait early or CJ should have.

We'll see what happens I guess.

I know Desai has a history with Amos, but Amos was Fing awful last year. And when I say Fing awful he was really god Fing awful. I wouldn’t go near that dude I think he’s done.

Majority of his turnovers were right place right time.

This was most definitely CJ telling us no, not Howie refusing to match. Howie has absolutely abandoned the safety position in FA thus far waiting on CJ.

Something just doesn’t seem right with that deal and I’m assuming it has to do with behind the scenes stuff that we’re not privy to or he was looking for the moon. The fact that no team gave him a long term deal sounds strange. I thought he was one of the most important pieces to this defense and it wasn’t the same when he got hurt. Really wanted him to stay, but they obviously had their concerns.

Can’t find those instincts every day though to be fair

The Dawkins effect. We love every safety that isn’t a complete scrub.

You are aware this is not madden football that you can turn the cap option off right? We still need to clear almost 10 mill just to sign our draft picks as they sit now.

Still waiting to fill that endless void, no offense to Jenkins.

He didn’t really create them as much as others created them for him. Credit to him for not dropping them.

"Up to.”

Meant more so he got random tipped balls that fell in his lap. I’ll try to look at all of them at some point but I remember most being pretty fluky.

Our safeties combined next season won’t have 6 ints ….

stupid they couldn’t get a deal done

Draft Devon Witherspoon at 10. Move Maddox to S. We're better at 2 spots.
