Meant more so he got random tipped balls that fell in his lap. I’ll try to look at all of them at some point but I remember most being pretty fluky.

Yep.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

We need safety help more than last year if Slay is actually in fact declining.

Yup CJGJ messing around for so long kept the eagles from making any offers to other safeties, Howie should have cut bait early or CJ should have.

We'll see what happens I guess.

To be honest, the safety market hasn’t been all that fast moving and most that signed aren’t very good besides Bates and less so thornhill  Defensive tackle and linebacker is where it went really fast. I’m guessing CJGJ held it up for some. I’m betting now that he signed the market starts moving a little more at that position as some teams thought they might get him at a lower value

I’m pretty surprised we ended up letting both safeties walk. I assumed we would have kept one.

It’s only 6.5 guaranteed

John Johnson isn’t exciting. I would be more comfortable adding Byard and then also someone like Johnson if anything but not him as the top safety.

Id add Mills right now. Might not be ideal to think of him as a starter. But you have the draft to see if the board falls right where you want to take Sydney Brown. If not, you can begin working on Byard for a next year 3rd, or 2nd round pick.

Syndey Brown is also looking much more tempting in the draft.

Brian Branch at 10?

Also a thing I was wondering about, how much did CJGJ’s "vlogging the Super Bowl” piss off the FO. He released one episode that went into way more meaningless detail than the Eagles usually put out and he never posted the second episode he promised to post.

I don’t see us taking a safety until later rounds. This will be filled via trade or FA IMO. Maybe a late pick for depth. Sucks.

He didn’t really create them as much as others created them for him. Credit to him for not dropping them.

I think you make your own luck, in part though. He had the speed and range to be in the area of playmakers. I don't think it's just blind chance the ball happened to find his hands and not Marcus Epps. They found him because he was always in the area he needed to be.

Will never happen and safeties shouldn’t go that high. If they are getting 8–10 a year we need to pick a CB, DE, DT, T, WR who make 2x as much money and impact.

Safety, for the most part, is not an impact position. You should want solid players who won't burn you.

I’m guessing it wasn’t their intention but Epps got a deal early and didn’t want to wait around.

Yuck

Yup, figured as much. He didn't want a multi-year deal because he was so obsessed over chasing money. Whatever. Probably a pretty good chance he would've priced himself out of our range next year if we gave him a single year deal and he played well.

I want the younger player but this could possibly be another case of Howies door #2 being a better move than the original intended

This and McLane makes is sound like the Eagles chose Bradberry and Slay over CJGJ. As if they couldn't afford both. But that contradicts earlier reports they still wanted him back.

We can be frustrated. It sucks.

Chancey cost himself MILLIONS of dollars. No kidding Howie didn't wait.

Wonder if Howie pulled his original offer and low-balled him after the safety market fell into place lower than expected

Ill make another point about Mills here. As we know, he was arguably as good or better than both Epps, and Gardner-Johnson. But the comparison is not equal. Mills played here in a time where we played a ton of single high stuff. Mills was a tad slow for the CB position, and for being a single high safety.

Gannon's defense would have benefitted him even more. By all accounts, Dessai's will be similar. Mills wont have to cover so much field. His lack of speed wont be exploited as much. He will have a smaller zone to cover, and will be able to key downhill quicker to help support the run which he is excellent at as well.

I think he and Blankenship sneakily make a solid to good safety tandem.

Again, not ideal. Not anyone's first choices. Upgrade it if you can. But as a minimum, I want Mills here, and now.

Jeremy Chinn is on his final year of his rookie deal. I wonder if we could steal him from the Panthers.
