A week ago, most of thought CJGJ was a goner. We managed to keep Bradberry, who we also expected to lose.

We're in better shape than we thought.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

So the Eagles off-season has been retaining their oldest players and letting their younger free agents walk.  And also signing a constantly injured RB.

Would love to see them get Ngakoue and go all out on pass rush. Rather do that than waste money on average safeties with no upside. Unless they can get Byard.

This and McLane makes is sound like the Eagles chose Bradberry and Slay over CJGJ. As if they couldn't afford both. But that contradicts earlier reports they still wanted him back.

If they didnt resign Cox they would have had all 3 DBs back. I think most would have been happy with that situation. Once I saw the Cox signing I knew it would be a mistake.

Draft a DE - no more aging vets. This team needs to get younger there.

I’m curious what that multi-year offer looked like. Small guarantee to make CJGJ earn his contract year over year, or if the guarantee was fine but the yearly salary low?

Yup I didn't want cox back either but it is what it is...

Under the assumption that cjgj didn’t want to come back getting a multi year deal where felt slighted by the offer and was also out on the eagles after he felt "insulted” by their offer.

I don't think this really happens all that much in sports. Players go where the best offer is almost all the time unless they do a hometown discount or they take a little less to join a contender. You typically don't see players turn down matching offers from superior teams out of spite. Plus, players usually let agents handle almost all that stuff. I bet he would've come back if the Eagles matched. Doesn't sound like they did.

It’s obvious the interceptions overshadowed his shortcomings at safety. The hope was that he’d improve the more he played the position. I think he would work best in a creative scheme that allows him to be a hybrid nickel-safety.

Yep. Quite a few shortcomings. But yes, improvement was certainly possible. Still is, just not with us it seems. Oof.

I still tend to believe a guy like byard or Johnson is coming. I’m fine with that. I don’t think CJGJ is irreplaceable. Would’ve liked to keep him

This off-season keeps us in contention for 2023 but didn't kill our 2024-2026 window when Hurts gets paid.

The plan makes sense

I get that CJ didn't judge his market well, but paying $10M for Cox and not getting CJ for what the Lions are paying is disappointing.

The guy has been a diva and pain to deal with since his time with the saints. I think he’s the type of guy that would hold grudges.

While I’m way more down on CJGJ’s 2022 season than most in here, I still would have matched that Lions’ offer pretty quickly. I would have bet on continued development.

The amount of money we kicked to 2024/25 is palpable. Has to be over $30M against next year’s cap and counting.

Agreed. Especially when Cox benefited greatly from Hargrave, who isn’t here anymore

I’m still not sold they didn’t offer to match it

I wasn’t overjoyed about bringing Cox back either, but it’s apparent the Eagles value DL depth over everything but QB and didn’t trust Davis and Williams to get the job done without veteran help

London, Pitts (if healthy), Hollins, Jonnu Smith.  That's a huge group of targets for whoever they draft or Ridder.

low key wanted him. Wonder what his price was.

Hurts getting paid the ridiculous amount all over paid QBs are getting and the ghost contract years in half the team will kill our window. So either way its screwed in a few years. Just have to hope 2023 is our year.

Was this known that we were trying to re-sign Minshew?

For sure. I just don't know what they see in Cox at this point. He's just another guy out there right now.

1-$2.5M

Ill make another point about Mills here. As we know, he was arguably as good or better than both Epps, and Gardner-Johnson. But the comparison is not equal. Mills played here in a time where we played a ton of single high stuff. Mills was a tad slow for the CB position, and for being a single high safety.

Gannon's defense would have benefitted him even more. By all accounts, Dessai's will be similar. Mills wont have to cover so much field. His lack of speed wont be exploited as much. He will have a smaller zone to cover, and will be able to key downhill quicker to help support the run which he is excellent at as well.

I think he and Blankenship sneakily make a solid to good safety tandem.

Again, not ideal. Not anyone's first choices. Upgrade it if you can. But as a minimum, I want Mills here, and now.

I’d rather Johnson or Byard, but Mills wouldn’t piss me off. Equivalent in swaganomics to CJGJ.
