Why is that sensitive content lol

Agree. Mills is a good player. The double move stuff was at CB so may not affect the Eagles. He’s a skilled played and plenty fast enough to play safety. Has some swag. Not my first choice but they could do worse. I’d trust him more than I did Epps or Wallace last year.

Definitely better than Wallace. Hes a great locker room guy. Also brings the swag on the field. Hes an ideal, versatile backup. But if you get stuck with him as a starter youll be ok too. I dont know if you were around the other day when I posted the statistical comparison to Epps. Mills is objectively as good, or better than him, and even Gardner-Johnson.

I brought up the other day of Tampa moving up to 10 for a QB and we get 19 and Winfield Jr.

He’s only 24 and last year of his rookie deal

So we’ve just been ignoring safety all off-season since?

Why would Tampa trade their best defensive player?

Don’t worry I’m sure caplan will tell us it was a fluid situation.

tbh feels like a spin control by the eagles for him turning them down. Cause the report from Clark and some others was after slay restructured and bradberry was signed they were still working hard to get it done.

And CJGJ, if he gets to $8M, should bump one of our comp picks from a 6 to 5. That would be a 3 and three 5s.

Yeah that’s another reason why i don’t buy it. I’m betting they offered to match and CJGJ was out at that point

I’m fine letting him walk if we didn’t put all of our eggs in his basket. But now it’s well into FA and all the safeties are gone and we don’t draft safeties, at least not early enough for day 1 impact. This seems mishandled by both Howie and CJ.

I dont think theres anything else Howie could have done.

He made him a multi year offer.

If Gardner-Johnson scoffed and decided he would take a 1 year deal anywhere else but here after he felt disrespected....

What else could Howie have done that you wouldnt consider mis-handling? Offer him ridiculous money so he just accepted right away?

That’s what I don’t get. Other safeties have been signed for CHEAP since. Why did we sit those out?

Yeah I don't buy this spin the Eagles are trying to put out.  If they moved on then why haven't they made any moves at safety other than watching their two young starters sign elsewhere?

Howie is not an idiot. Not a single team offered him more than 6.5M guaranteed. That should tell you something

Sign someone else?

The league obviously doesn’t have the same opinion of CJGJ that Eagles fans do. The Birds could have matched that all day. They weren’t interested. Second team to not really care much about retaining him. Locker room stuff?

100%. First of all, he must not be as good as Eagles fans think, myself included. Marcus frickin Epps got a better deal than him. The league spoke loud and clear as to what they think of CJGJ. The Eagles could have matched that easily had they wanted to.

With tbat being said, S is nowa huge need. We didnt have Brown until the draft though, Bradberry until after Junr, and CJ until August. People will need to be patient, they will make a move or two at the position.

We don’t know that.

Yeah it’s why i don’t buy they didn’t try to match that offer. I truly think CJGJ felt slighted and turned the eagles down in the end cause he felt disrespected. He’s that type of diva to do that. Let’s not pretend he wasn’t with the saints and that was one of the reasons they were willing to trade him

That's 3 sources saying they "moved on" to other priorities. I still don't know what that means. Does that imply they could no longer afford him once they brought back Bradberry?

Or is it "we don't want to deal with you anymore"?

Important distinctions. Either way, I think both aren't great. If it's the former, that means they chose a 31 year old Fletcher Cox over him with the money. And if it's the latter, they allowed their personal feelings get in the way.

John Johnson still out there?

While I’m way more down on CJGJ’s 2022 season than most in here, I still would have matched that Lions’ offer pretty quickly. I would have bet on continued development.

Likely, at this point Gardner-Johnson just moved on. Im quite sure we would have offered to match that deal.

Remember his tweet about the "disrespect"? He felt disrespected. Like Slay when he wanted out of Detroit. Guy want gonna stay here. I think thats pretty apparent by this deal he accepted.

I'm taking it as, they used the money for him elsewhere. Including an overpaid Cox

So the guy who tanked his own market, then took a worse offer?

Yup he’s been the guy I’ve wanted of CJGJ was gone for a while. He’s still young at 27. I think a chance he gets back to what he was with the rams and at a good value

If we’re really going to a Staley-style defense, then John Johnson would be a home run. He had his best year under Staley. Get him and Mills and we’re good.
