So you're sure CJGJ actually came back hat in hand asking for $10M before they signed Cox?

No, I'm saying Howie is usually great at reading the market, so if he truly wanted CJGJ back that badly, he would have waited it out and not re-signed Cox. If your speculation is correct, by signing Cox when he did, he basically chose him over CJGJ.

just ignore the "2"

Then I guess Greedy Williams shouldn’t play safety.

He and Gardner-Johnson have a very similar missed tackle rate throughout their careers hovering around 14.5-15.5%

Difference is, Gardner-Johnson is just a little small and weak.

Williams is more so avoiding the contact like Asante Samuel.

Williams also has a very small sample size between being injured, and also not starting a lot of games even when healthy. Also, never having played safety where you really cant go hide or pretend to not get off a block.

I suspect putting Williams at safety, his missed tackle % ticks higher.

Ok?

Probably that the Birds offered more total but less average ($8 million).

Not just that, but he has no physicality. He’d be an all-time level of soft at the position. CJGJ wasn’t soft. He took bad angles, but he would stick his nose in there.

I really don't think it was as cut and dry as you are making it.  CJGJ was a volatile and unknown option at the time.  Just look at his Twitter.

I think it’s apparent there were some frustrations boiling over on both sides with CJGJ and the Eagles.  Even though they floated an offer after it happened, I didn’t see the 2 sides coming together after the tweet about Gannon.  The eagles really hate that stuff.  And CJGJ seems pretty combustible and sensitive.

thats kind of what I was getting at. The stats are the same, but the way they get there is much different. One has a mindset to go make plays. Physical limitations keep him from physically dominating ball carriers. But you could live with him.

The other is shy of contact. Put him at safety, youll be giving up TDs left and right.

That should be a given. Of course a multi-year deal would include more guaranteed money than a one-year deal. It just seemed like word vomit from Gunn.

I just made my nightly mayo toast to make me feel better after this news.

Brandin Cooks has been underrated as a 2+deep threat for years. I mean. His numbers speak for themselves really.

image.png.fe42462ec589f39430168f1e0ce09191.png

Look at this consistency. My main concerns with him are his slipping average, and him getting older. But like.

Yikes. Some names on that list. And he's done it with several different QBs too. I didn't hear he had attitude problems though, care to update me on that?

TLDNR: You found the key to your 2023 fantasy team. Be sure to draft Cooks in round 1. :flex:

1000 yards in 2015-2018 years ago means beyond nothing. If it did then Julio Jones would be making 12 million this year..

1000 yards is 58.8 yards per game. Who cares?  22 people had 1000 yards receiving this year. 26 last year.

His ypc and ypt are pedestrian and he's only getting older. I am filled with actual joy that Dallas committed 12m and 2 draft picks to this loser

  • Diggs has 4189 yards and 29 TDs the last 3 seasons.
  • Davante Adams 4443 and 43 TDs the last 3 seasons.  (Cooks has 49 TDs in 9 years)
  • Lockett 3226 and 27 TDs
  • Cooks is at 2886 and 15

Hopkins, Diggs, Allen and Adams are all top 22 in career yards per game. Cooks is 47th and dropping like a stone.

Any idiot who is trying to sell you on Cooks belonging with that list has no idea how the NFL works in 2023.

That last time that guy found the end zone 7+ times was 2017.

  • Diggs has 8+ TDs in 5 of the last 6 years.
  • Lockett has 8+ TDs in 5 of the last 5 years.
  • Adams has 10+ TDs in 6 of the last 7 years.

The other players in that list  (besides Allen) all have multiple 10 TD seasons. Cooks never has hit 10 and only hit 9 once.

Allen averaged 1183 yards per season the last 6 years before 2022 and he still had 750 in 10 games in 2022.

From 2015-2019 Cooks was part of the great NFL offenses of the era n NO with Payton and Brees, LA with McVay Kupp, Woods, and Gurley, and NE with Gronk and Brady.

He was a young man then.

Now he's a washed up 30 year old who got back to back 1000 yard seasons on 4 win teams because they gave him 119 and 134 targets. He's aging like a fine Eric Moulds.

He did not get another 1000 yards on a 3 win team in part because he refused to play in a game in protest to his bible study con man mentor getting fired.

He was on his way to about 120 useless targets until he lost his Captain's C and was labeled as a turd by the Texans.

Even Epps and CJGJ mostly dived/grabbed at ankles when bigger players got into the second level with the ball.  And it’s usually just a shoulder without a wrap up when it’s a smaller player.

Defensive backs that tackle well are few and far between.

I'm not sure I agree with your initial assessment though. I find it highly unlikely that as it stands right now, that if the Eagles really thought he was valuable, they couldn't have found a watch to match that offer. And I think this will be proven in the coming days/weeks when they shell out more money for other players.

According to sources familiar with the team’s negotiations, the Eagles offered Gardner-Johnson a multi-year deal at the start of free agency that was worth more than what he ultimately signed for with the Lions. However, Gardner-Johnson was seeking to be paid an annual average in salary just shy of Bates. The Eagles’ initial offer wasn’t there, and he hoped ensuing offers would be as the Eagles shifted their focus elsewhere.

Just shy of 16M APY 😂😂😂 I like CGJ but how delusional

1 hour ago, Estasi said:

The league obviously doesn’t have the same opinion of CJGJ that Eagles fans do. The Birds could have matched that all day. They weren’t interested. Second team to not really care much about retaining him. Locker room stuff?

We don’t know whether the Eagles matched it or not.  For all we know they did match it (or even go slightly higher) but he and his agent chose to go elsewhere.  We probably will never know.

Didn't a lot of people have him at $12-13M before free agency? It might not be as crazy as it sounds now.
