However it all played out, CJGJ is now Mel Gibson standing beside the highway at the end of the Road Warrior

"He lives only in my memories”

I have a feeling he’ll have a miserable year in Detroit, maybe they eek in the playoffs but get bounced right away, and then he gets a demoralizing offer next offseason all the while wishing he was playing for team green while he watches us on his January couch.

Would be pretty surprising if he gets a bigger deal next year than he did after leading the league in INTs for the league’s best pass defense.

Have you just believed all the dumber stuff you’ve heard up to this point? If youve never in your life heard anyone say anything dumber than that, then calling him your dumbest acquaintance makes you maybe the most gullible person on earth. I hear dumber stuff than that every day.

Easy there fella. Getting a little too heated over this. Calling someone one of the dumbest humans you know over a football discussion about a contract? Bad look.

You know what else is a bad look? White knighting for another grown man. Just sayin.....

People can believe whatever they want, but again, all of this lines up with Howie's track record.

Howie doesn't value safety all that highly. His starting safeties last year before the CJGJ  trade were Wallace and Epps. The guy has never valued safety that highly. Excluding Malcolm Jenkins(who was a special leader and player) Howie has always gone cheap there.

Knowing that, suddenly Howie is going to offer 12 million/year to a dude the entire league shows they didn't value very much right at the start of free agency, when Howie's best quality is reading and projecting the market for players?

And lastly, letting a 25 year old player just walk, whom he considers extremely valuable for a prove-it deal is also unlike Howie.

Now, maybe Howie is wrong in his evaluation of CJGJ and he goes on to earn a big contract with the Lions. But all of this points to Howie and his staff thinking CJGJ is not a premium safety and they feel they can a) do better or b) do close to as good for significantly cheaper.

Lions secondary is pretty nice with CJGJ, Sutton, Okudah and Moseley.

Also think their offense will be pretty dangerous with a full year of Williams and St Brown.

Nah. If someone believes the Eagles offered CJGJ a two year deal worth 7 million total (or a 3.5 million aav) with a fake third year for 17 million than you or whomever believes that are some of the dumbest clowns out there. Not to mention if you can't see what his agency is trying to do after all of the reports came out that they were asking for Jessie Bates like money and turned down way more $ than the deal that was ultimately signed, again, idiot sandwiches.

What's left to do in addition to the draft.

- A few S and LB in the later stages of FA.  Maybe a Bradberry/CJGJ-like opportunity from last season falls into their laps.
- Figure out WR #3&4.
- Bring in a vet candidate for OL #6.  Think Wisniewski.
- Extend that Hurts guy.

Do you spend much time outside? This is the dumbest thing to you? Really?

Someone arguing the semantics behind what an agent posts on Twitter is dumber to you than people getting stomach-pumped from eating tide pods as a TikTok trend? it’s dumber to you than the multimillionaire DE  who blew off his fingers while fisting a firecracker?

What are you even arguing here?

This is the guy who is awesome at projecting comp picks.

Damn, I'm more disappointed about losing CJ than I thought I would be. Young player, fun to root for... damn.

Fingers crossed playing time this years bumps it up to a 5th

Go get Ngakoue. Load up on the pass rush with that money. He's younger than I thought he was, he's only 27 and is coming off a 9.5 sack season. It might be a bit of a luxury, but you can never have enough pass rush. Unless of course Howie can find a premium safety to use that money on, but if not, I'd rather pay Ngakoue and just make this DL loaded than pay Adrian Amos and some mediocre LB.

I don’t think any LB outside of Wagner is getting paid much at this point.

John Johnson might get 5 at safety but that’s probably the highest.

Ngakoue stinks against the run apparently fwiw

LB will be addressed by bringing in some other teams scrub that will get cut after preseason or mid season then filled by an udfa LB.

I imagine Howie rolls with Watkins for 1 more year and drafts a WR 5th round or later plus a few UDFA WRs, was surprised they didn't make a play for Paris Campbell.

As for 6th O line for whatever reason seems like they still like Driscoll, not sure why?

Hopefully he comes back bigger faster stronger and ready to take a safety spot.

I'm not going to count him out because he was an udfa, mikell was an UDFA and that worked out ok.

Blankenship has a lot  of room for improvement but he showed some flashes, he seems like a kid who has his head screwed on straight is a hard worker and blended into the locker room quickly.

I can't imagine Howie is going to put a lot of resources towards safety, probably draft one later rounds bring in some UDFA let them all compete and hopefully can find a couple guys that are good enough.

If K von Wallace is starting week 1 I may puke, he's horrid

McLeod was also a UDFA. I feel people forget that.

Maddox to S seems inevitable

Yes but not for the eagles,

But yeah lots of guys who weren't drafted or drafted low make it in the league so I'm not going to count Blankenship out.

Not to mention he was a rookie so there's room for improvement.

I suspect unless Howie makes some unconventional moves he's one of the starting safeties week 1.

How long that lasts is up to him.

I like him at FS except one can only expect about 6 games out of him before he gets hurt so one would need a suitable backup.

I don’t think it happened but if you want a crazy tinfoil hat conspiracy, maybe the Eagles thought that Maddox would be better off playing safety. And they would move CJGJ to slot corner as as he’s a better player there in their eyes. And maybe that’s why he didn’t get the offer from the Eagles he was looking for and the rest of the league may have thought similarly.

That said, I find it really far-fetched, but I can’t say it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. But I find it to be a really low chance.

Its hard enough to keep Maddox on the field as it is as a slot CB....moving him to safety isnt going to work. Howie clearly doesnt like depending on rookies to start day one, especially in the secondary....but it looks like hes going to be forced to do so because the only FA safety out there that I would project better than Branch or Battle is Byard. The Amos's and Mill's are depth guys at this point in their career. Not someone you feel comfortable to start 17 games because they have a low ceiling. Unless there is a trade coming, who knows.

Howie needs to find a starting MLB because you definitely dont want to start a rookie there day 1. Go safety and Dline early in the draft.

I think it’s mills.

That would be underwhelming if that’s the only move tbh. I’d be fine with him replacing Epps. However Blankenship and mills doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence granted I’d assume that’s not the only moves they’d make there
