Ok, help me out here since the details are not available.  This is what it looked like prior to the "restructure"

Well, the base salary can't be lowered any more, so what did they do?  Convert Roster, Game and Workout bonuses into a signing bonus and prorate it? If so, does that mean they are really gambling on him playing all 17 and prorating $8,500,000.  If so,

The only other option is they said "Dude, sign this or you're cut" and tossed the last year out the window.

Yea, I was thinking about this too, and it will be interesting to see what happens. I don't really understand Schefters wording or why they would give him a $10M deal worth up to $15M. I wonder if there something going on behind the scenes here and they recouped some bonus money or something from his ankle ordeal.

In case you are curious, here is what it looks like now at OTC:

Ummm... what?  I get that the original tweet may be wrong, but looking at this quickly while on a conference call,I don't see how this helps.

We went with an over the hill Cox over CJGJ.  Howie just can't give up on Cox.

I wasn't huge on Witherspoon at 10 due to his size but if the plan is to put him in the slot (I know high for a 10 pick) to begin with and move Maddox to S I'm ok with that.

They're better off trading back and grabbing Branch really. He's a slot/S. Can step right into the starters role and comes with very high upside.

Took him forever to let Peters go as well

One had nothing to do with the other.  They didn't want CJGJ anymore or they would have found a way to fit the money

Unbelievable. What a F'ing joke.

Branch isn't that much bigger at 191 pounds vs 181.  Him running a 4.58 makes me a little nervous as I'd expect in 4.4's due to smaller frame.

Definitely not opposed to trading down... Just think if Slay or Bradberry goes down we can move him back to the Outside

They certainly haven't dont much to get younger.  Players signed this offseason.  I'd say these are moves to go all in for another SB run but if that's the case, you'd think keeping at least 1 starting safety would have made sense.

Kelce- 35

Fletcher Cox- 32

Brandon Graham- 35 next month

Darius Slay- 32

James Bradberry- 30 in August

Rashaad Penny- 27 (45 in RB years)

Boston Scott- 27

Marcus Mariota- 30 early part of season

Greedy Williams- 25

Can't be based on performance, he was a stud and exceeded expectations. Wasn't the best in run support, but good enough, and far better than Bradberry who we chose to keep. This one just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Beats me, I have no idea what they are doing with this. I guess he wanted more money so they gave it to him because reasons?

His numbers matched what Mills did at S. I wouldn't say stud

I agree, and this "They simply couldn't afford him" narrative immediately dies after the Eagles make their next signing that pays close to what CJGJ got from the Lions.

First Edwards and White were no better than Singleton and now CJGJ is as good as Jalen F'ing Mills.  I enjoy this place so much.

Lol at the oldest guy still playing like an All Pro. Kelce is GOAT

There's also a chance Sean Desai was not a fan of CJGJ and told Howie he wants something different in a safety.

Nope!!  All the blame needs to be placed on Howie!!!

Never do that again.

Then why didn't they sign another safety instead of sitting and watching most of them get signed already in free agency?

Terrible use of a 1st round pick if your logic is "We lost CJGJ, we need a stud S/slot type."

Then Desai is a moron. We just let both of our starting safeties walk, is there someone else we're holding out for? What exactly is he looking for in a safety that can be found elsewhere?

My guess? They didn't evaluate Vonn Bell, Juan Thornhill, etc as 7 million dollars per year better than Reed Blankenship.

Now, maybe they're dumb in that evaluation, but you asked for an answer, and that's most likely the reason.

He already moved on to Bradberry and Slay at that point and probably hadn't allocated that amount of additional cap to the secondary.

Some insight into the agent's perception of the deal.

Right they didn't think any safety was worth big $$$ so let the market settle and will sign someone for under 5. Same with LB most likely.  Of course only time will tell if they were right.

Fire Sean Desai

It's a shame that there isn't a way to acquire low-cost players at needed positions after free agency is over.
