We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

My guess? They didn't evaluate Vonn Bell, Juan Thornhill, etc as 7 million dollars per year better than Reed Blankenship.

Now, maybe they're dumb in that evaluation, but you asked for an answer, and that's most likely the reason.

Okay but Blankenship is one of two safeties.  If they didn't want CJGJ per your theory then why not sign any other of the many safeties that were in the market prior to now?

It's a shame that there isn't a way to acquire low-cost players at needed positions after free agency is over.

But the sky is falling and the time to panic is now.

The season doesn't start until September.

We acquired Blount and Ajayi after the draft in 2017.  We acquired Bradberry and CJGJ after the draft in 2022.

Probably don't think they're worth what they want.

I know some people are thinking Howie will just pivot now to John Johnson or whomever, but I wouldn't be shocked if safety isn't addressed until draft weekend. Unless John Johnson or Adrian Amos are willing to sign a very cheap deal. If they aren't willing to match CJGJ's contract, I highly doubt they are just going to go out now and sign lesser players or players in the same tier, the same amount of money. Otherwise, none of this makes any sense.

They lucked into Bradberry.  We will see if they can pull off another trade for a safer if one is to become available.

Bit this while notion that we can't dare criticize Howie for letting the player that should have been our top priority walk on a small one year deal is silly.

Seems like Howie dropped the ball and neglected that position group in anticipation of getting a deal done with CJ. Not saying it's too late to fix, but we will likely need to use draft capital (picks or trades) to fill one or both spots. Ideally they sign JJIII or Byard if he becomes available but they are down to slim pickings.

Then Desai is a moron. We just let both of our starting safeties walk, is there someone else we're holding out for? What exactly is he looking for in a safety that can be found elsewhere?

Desai and Staley have similar S usage in their schemes historically. So John Johnson or Taylor Rapp make some sense with their Staley connections.

I so want to have a hot take about CJGJ but I cant really dredge up any strong feelings about it.  Take it or leave it type of player to me.

A lot of his big plays were "Johnny on the spot" types of plays.  I would have preferred he come back but Im not broken up about it.

If anything, Im more excited for the draft since we can now zero in on a few positions

That is a subjective assessment presented as fact.  I can't see Safety ever being a top priority for this team.

You're excited that we have to use some of our draft capital to plug a hole that could've been easily addressed by re-signing a player we've already seen perform at a high level?

...and that makes me think:  was the most impressive interception this year Blankenship picking off Rodgers?

I think so.  Therefore I conclude that we will not miss a single beat this year with Considine, I mean Blankenship, back there.

Terrible use of a 1st round pick if your logic is "We lost CJGJ, we need a stud S/slot type."

Not terrible at all if he's a difference maker.  He's a top twenty player all day long. Not like he would be a reach. He could be an option at least.

He's undrafted for a reason and obviously hasn't shown much to get on the field even as a back up player. I'm not saying he should get cut. But there shouldn't be any outlandish expectations like that has been tossed around

Shouldn’t Be is deferring to Never Up, Never In.

The tweet basically called the Eagle's worse because the last season was for $17 million.  Implying the Eagles wouldn't pay the last season.  While that's not impossible, if he performed he would be much more likely to get a better extension with the Eagles.  I also don't see the benefit of the tweet in the sense that it possibly burns a bridge with a team that made him a multi-year offer.  If things don't work out in Detroit or he is a FA next season, you would think coming back to the Eagles would be a viable option. I wonder if negotiations went south and the agent didn't give Roseman a chance to match it.

Yeah, I think they were only focusing on the salary cap numbers, and not the cash values.   I doubt the Eagles were offering 2 years at roughly $3.5M per year, max.  If they were... then shame on them.  They should have offered more and retained him.  He was rather cheap compared to expectations pre-free agency.

Look at over the past two decades.  The years we haven't had good safeties our defense has been dog crap.  The years we have had good safeties we have been contending.

I dont know if "easily" necessarily applies.

I think its disappointing but his agent is kind of a dumbarse and theres no way the Eagles could have predicted that.

Rapapapapaports reporting seems to indicate that the Eagles had an either/or with Slay and Bradberry and CJGJ.    Im fine bringing back our CB duo if that means we need to backfill a safety.

And just stepping back and looking at the big picture, I think he was probably a solid-not-great player.  Im disappointed but Ill get over it..... actually Im already over it I think.

Exactly a player that clearly fans thought much more of than nearly every professional evaluator in the nfl and now they are doubling down on their evaluation.

How much do you expect Bobby Wagner to get?  Could we get Mills and Wagner at same cost as C.J.?

CJGJ had a very impressive and important game sealing interception against Dallas.  With an inured hand too at that.

Sounds like this front offices thinking when trying to decide what linebacker and safety to add

Yes, "easily" applies because he's already proven himself on the field. Or at least, far more proven than Blankenship or any other potential replacements. Letting both of our starting LBs and safeties walk is pretty damn risky. I can understand letting one or two go because you have some confidence in the roster depth, but not all four.

More than what Howie is wiling to pay

Yeah, but would they have made those moves without TATE melting down?
