I have no idea how we have almost 14mm in cap space...

Because of Slay. But they are still missing a few guys like Mariota, Williams and whatever two scrubs were signed yesterday.

We borrowed it from the future.  Just like the government.

Honestly, it's brilliant given the never ending cap increases. Basically, taking charges in future that are less painful (as % of the cap) to address today's players. I have to think at some point the NFL cracks down on the dummy void years.

Guessing we are high single digits, without restructuring Lane.

Hey! Those "two scrubs" are great players who could start day 1, now that they're on the Eagles. Dont let anyone tell you differently!

There is no question mark. Eagles aren't taking $35M in dead cap for no reason. If he was a question mark, they would not have extended him. It's that simple.

Bradberry would be an easier cut next year than Slay since he would only be $17M in dead cap.

Eagles structured the contracts to be more financially tied to the hip of Slay. If the plan was to release Slay, just to extend him, just to cut him one year later in the same year they gave him a guaranteed bonus, Howie is an idiot.

Yeah. It just seems like we’re overextended with Slay. It’s hard to see that deal as a win for Howie.

For better it worse, I think we added our only FA LB of note.

That's fine in my book for Jaxson. I love his game and demeanor. Would be an awesome slot here.

Being married to these two guys at outside CB does make me wonder a bit if there is a thought of moving Maddox to FS and Greedy Williams to slot CB.  Williams only played a bit of slot in CLE, but he has the foot speed and athleticism to try it.  The only other plan I could envision is to use Williams strictly as a depth guy behind the two older players for injury contingency.

We have our LB -- Dean and Morrow

Honestly, feels like Slay and Rosenahaus won that fight fairly easy. I'm sure Howie ideally wanted a simple restructure to his contract this year and move on next year but Slay/Rosenahaus were able to read the room and navigate their way into an extension because that was the only other option for immediate cap relief.

Yep.  Really makes no sense to only look at the cap in one particular year.  It's more like rolling 5-7 year plan where you can shift cap hits forward as much as you want.  If things ever get out of hand, you just punt a season by accelerating all the dead cap hits into that year and get a clean slate again.

I think it's possible Maddox plays a hybrid role and moves between FS and NB, which makes S2 less important. But that again seems like a risky proposition to bet on given his durability, and if he were to miss time it's now two weaknesses that can be exposed.

Probably. Maybe trade or draft pick at some point.

It'll be interesting what he does when that happens

NFLPA won't have it since those void/dummy years help players get paid more money earlier.

If he's there at eagles 2nd round pick, but 1st round is pretty steep for a slot receiver

They have the June 1st trap-door, if Slay significantly declines in 2023.

Cody Mauch in Late Round 2 images a lot of sense.  Con play all 5 O-line positions effectively.  Good option for long term RG after Jurgens moves to Center.

I think Stout likes him. He was giving him very positive feedback during the combine drills he coached.

Yea, I don't see any reason why either side would get rid of them. Helps players get paid, and helps Owners put together competitive teams which is a better product. Win win.

And it's not like they currently are anything goes and some loophole. There are specific rules already in place with what they can and can't do with them.
