Wow, Lanes contract is like Howie's little cheat code for the cap.

Every year he does something with Lanes contract to free up cap space.

Clearing up 10 mil with the reported 14 mil they had would give them, let's see, carry the 3 divide by the square root of 7 and multiply by pi... Cross the I and dot the T.

24 million in cap space no???

That seems like maybe enough to pay a decent safety...

Maybe.

My guess is a Hurts extension.

He's not going to retire then.  He blew bonus money early in his career with the suspension. He's going to want to deposit these checks for a few years while they are there to be had

Those were his words just a few months ago, right? But if he doesn’t retire then this contract is a boon for us.

Jeff McLane starter a podcast called Uncovering the Birds. His first podcast was about Evan Mathis, his high stakes gambling (enormous wins and losses) and other things. Good listen.

Oh yeah.👍

QB contracts are out of control.

Eagles really missed their chance to win it all this year, as with hurts getting paid it's going to be that much tougher to build a team around him.

Hopefully Howie can figure it out and nail the upcoming draft and the one after that.

One really good draft can change the trajectory of a team.

Who would of thought at the time that the best signing out of that " dream Team" year would be the unheralded Evan Mathis

Dude was a beast💪

Howie did everything right, then Gannon said "nope"

Yup.

Howie did his part.

It's still difficult for me to fathom how inept Gannon was in that game and not only that but then a team after watching that total crap show from Gannon was like yup that's our guy we need that...🤔

Thank you cards for taking Gannon off our hands!

Don’t get me depressed again so early this morning. That loss feels like one that can torpedo an entire generation ala 2004. Just a horrific waste of an opportunity that may end up defining the legacy of this group.

Holy smokes, that's QB money.  Never seen a non-QB get that much.   It's just gotta be some way to push his cap hit around.  Who knows if his body or mind will even have him interested in playing in 2026.

That’s not QB money. Look at the total guarantees.

I've been going back and forth on something.

Last year with 3 first round picks, Howie pushed one to this year to spread out that draft capital and give us flexibility (speculated contingent on how Hurts performed).  Well, Hurts performed and we have two picks.  Furthermore, we have quite a few picks next year, so there is less motivation to stock up there.  Finally, we have quite a few holes to fill this year given the current state of the roster and cap.

With 10, I feel like we need to fire that bullet somehow.  Trade up, down, etc.  But use that pick to eventually get a player.

But what about #30.  If someone comes and offers a future first and another pick (lets say 3rd), do you take it?

I can see Howie using the 1st rounder as a floating one for the future - It's an insurance policy they can cash in on a picks or a player through the draft or trade. You can think of it as a cash in 2025 where the roster in theory will be churning the older players out.

Especially with Cox, Kelce and Graham coming back for 1 more year, if you can move it forward another year, great.

Sorry.

So with a stroke of his hand, Howie extends our Johnson.

Off topic…

I don’t know how many of you work in management but finding people who want to work is next to impossible. People with little to no experience expect like 70k/year for just having a certification. And that’s just full time candidates. Part-time… forget about it.

Work in management?  You can't even manage your own bowel movements, Dookie Blaylock!

I'm surprised because he's talked about how he wants to be with his kids more. What happens if he were to retire in 2024?

It's tough because there is so much parity in the league year to year that it's tough to judge which teams are going to suck.

I mean if it was guaranteed to turn that pick 30 into a top 10 pick next year you take the deal all day but the uncertainty gives me pause...

That's why I would think 30 could be in play.  You get a 3rd and you are guaranteed value.  Even if the team we trade it to wins it all, we come out ahead points wise.

Maybe but this group feels much different.  This would havbe been like the Eagles getting past Tampa in 2002 and losing in the Super Bowl.  The first 5 years of Reid there were no weapons on offense aside from Duce and McNabb.  Receiver was such a sore spot and Banner/Modrak/Reid did not invest enough in the position.  Then when they had TO, they took a stupidly hard line when he wanted to restructure the deal.  The Reid and Banner's pride and ego killed the team from 05 to 07 when having TO would have kept them competitive.

Depends who is on the board and what team but certainly open to it. Would probably make the trade and get cheap rookie after bg kelce cox are off the books.

whats the contract for pick 30 look like? Or is it technically 31 still from a slotted contract perspective?

For our pick at 30, year 1 is estimated to be $2,291,285  according to:

https://overthecap.com/draft

Not sure why we extended a guy who still has 3 years left on his deal who said he wants to play 1 or 2 more years but ok.

I don’t watch every team’s games and haven’t watched Morrow play to say he’s great or he’s awful.

But knowing this:

1. 6’ 220lb LB starting next to an already pretty tiny Dean.

2. After watching Morrow start for a year, a professional team felt it worthwhile to invest $20m in upgrading the position with TJ Edwards.

3.  Prior to TJ Edwards (not making him out to be prime Ray Lewis), the Eagles’ scouting and results with the interchangeable parts scrap heap philosophy at lb has almost exclusively unearthed really bad players.

All the evidence really points to Morrow as the brand new whipping boy for the defense above anything else.

Really hard to argue with this logic.  The alternative would be Howie knowing more about LBs than the Bears.  I realize it’s a different staff there now, but that thought has to make one laugh based on history alone

I think it showed what Jalen meant to the team when he was out. I have never seen a guy improve that much in that short of time. There was no way coming into last season I thought he was starting NFL passer much less the best pocket passer in the league (which he was)

The only question is health. Otherwise, pay Jalen. He’ll take us where we need to go.

Like I said… the workforce is desperate. We can’t all be lucky and get a free ride of our wives feet pic business like you do

Maybe but not necessarily. They don’t cost the same.
