Weird way to post that, Thomas.

That is the who, but not the why.  Even with that you are changing the equivalency by undoing a transaction that was already done.  Jones would be good, but his price tag was not so good.

Bottom-line, you appear to be saying that a DT playing 40% of the team’s snaps is more valuable than a boundary CB playing 95% of the team’s snaps.  Do I have that right?

I don't think his price tag was all that bad. There were projections of him getting 20 mil maybe more per year. The why is because he's a 26 year old pass rushing 3 down DT and we no longer have a player of that age and quality and it's a vital and valued position on this team. The trenches are always valued more, let's not pretend this team thinks otherwise. One CB is 32 and the other about to be 30 this summer. Considering the strength of the draft is CB, it could have been an easy path to take. Who knows, maybe we didn't have a shot at Jones even if we matched the contract. I just thought he would've been the perfect fit here with the loss of Hargrave and Howie usually can manipulate the cap to make signings work.

Great work by Howie. If any of them suck and/or get hurt Howie can just move on and with four dart throws it's likely that a couple of them work out on super cheap deals. It also means if the value lines up in the draft he wouldn't hesitate to address any of those positions but doesn't have to force anything. Howie is so damn good at what he does.

So OTC has the following one-year deals, which is where Peterson must have gotten his numbers…

Morrow $1.015M

Evans $1.56M

Williams $1.29M

He’s my #1 want. Gonzalez 2nd.

Part of the reason I didn't want to bring back both corners at their price and age... I doubt we go corner now.

This guy has been putting CJ down for the last two weeks. Trying every angle he can.

I do think it’s worth noting though.

Witherspoon at 10 and Kancey at 30 is my dream scenario

CJ had more interceptions last year on a new team in ten games than Edmunds had in his entire 5 year NFL career of 79 games. And I like the signing, he's a tough run defender which I welcome.

ESP is a contrarian. Always had been. Will take the opposite of the popular sentiment.

He said on wip the other day that Mike Trout is the most overrated athlete in all of sports.

Absolutely.

Witherspoon can play. He'll find a way to contribute.

Even if Witherspoon doesn't play, can't be afraid to take guys who may not contribute a ton year one. The BPA may not be a guy who will play a ton year one. Better than forcing a pick at DT because it's a bigger immediate need. Witherspoon is a stud.

That was so clever and subtle most people missed it, wide.

Assuming you guys are talking about Devon Witherspoon, I find myself a bit fascinated by the numbers of Julius Brents. Anyone have any insight on the guy? How's his tape (or more accurately to most of us fans, cuts?)

I was watching some content from someone who has a philosophy on evaluating players and I feel they made quite an interesting point on what's important for defensive back. So when I looked into who fits those things, particularly for the slot...I noticed Julius Brents.

I know normally people this big in the slot are not recommended. However...one of the things these people talked about is for inside corner positions, it's smart to consider shuttle and 3 as the most important for getting hips around. They pointed out how Maddox is actually incredibly high percentile in that. And Brents?

None of this matters if his tape is garbage though, so yeah. Anyone know the guy?

Ha! The other 49er kicker jumped on the "Eagles actually suck” train just to get replaced a month later.

Thing is that Slay and Bradberry are a lock on the roster for this season and next.  I don't think they would draft someone at 10 just to have them sit for 2 years.  So then it become a question of can you slide him in to play nickel?  Do you move him to safety until Slay/Bradberry are gone or one of them are injured just so you get him on the field?

It's just not going to happen at 10.  They are going oline or dline.

O-line to sit for 2 years?

You don’t know if Slay and Bradberry both will be back next year and if they are they’ll be shutdown corners. What if one of them falls off. I think CB is more likely than OL. It will depend on the players available and how they’re graded, not their positions.
