I’m really surprised about the Hurts / Herbert takes. I don’t think it’s even close.

Herbert does not win and does not excel statistically but he has good PR maybe?

Herbert has zero years as a top 10 passer rated QB through 3 years. Jared Goff was 2 for 3.

Goff is a 95.8 rated QB in Detroit and Herbert is at 95.4 over the same time.

So the real question is Goff vs Herbert and its leaning Goff right now.

People are pretending Herbert is a great or elite QB.  He can be in the future but I will go with Lawrence over Herbert as the next guy.

With Morrow being a minimum contract, he’s basically a training camp flyer or decent depth. There wasn’t a peep about Keanu Neal following his visit. I wonder if he’s still in play.

You seem to be ignoring the possibility (probability) that Morrow is better than Kyzir White.

2020-2022 Cousins has more wins, more TDs, less picks, a better rating, and a better ANY/A than Herbert.

Herbert has about 1000 more passing yards.

I'd think you have to move past Cousins to be an elite QB.

The producers had trouble casting Bea Arthur for Golden Girls; she turned them down originally.  Rue McClanahan called her to try to get her on board and reviewed who had been cast for it.  Bea said to her "I’m not interested in another sitcom where you play a dumb woman and Betty plays a trampy one”.  McClanahan told her "actually Bea, in this series they’ve cast me to be the promiscuous one and Betty to be the dumb one”

To that, Bea Arthur said "Now, THAT’S interesting”.  Sometimes, it’s all in the casting decisions.

Funny how that works. Put together the right cast, get some decent writers and make a little cinematic history.

MASH was like that til Alda took over, House is a good example of keeping it together through, what, 10 seasons?

High level storylines, excellent dialogue, solid medical references, just well done.

Watching Old TCM movies these days for fun, as time allows. Sea Wolf, Srgt York, In Harm's Way, Rio Bravo, 12 O'clock High, and more.

Anyway, Eagles gonna suck in 2023, Howie can't do his job , Kelce is too old, Lane needs another injection, Davis can't stay healthy, Graham is cooked, Cox is Lurie's grandson, so, protected. but fear not, we have Barnett coming back so all is good....

:P

Oh, and Samba Pa Ti...Search. listen, Love...

I think the Edmunds signing eliminates Neal.

Herbert had over 1k more passing yards than hurts in 2022 alone.

WR3 gets limited targets but we need a guy that can make the most of them. I'm down on Quez. He doesn't make contested catches or routine catches in limited opportunities. Wouldn't be so bad if he offered something on STs but he doesn't.

I don't particularly like Quez either.  However,  I thought that Reagor was awful and needed to have his snaps cut way down.  I wouldn't say that about Quez.

WR3 isn't a real position.  In the history of the NFL,  there was often no WR3.  Or slot.  The Eagles have legit stars at the QB position, and at 3 pass catching positions. SE, TE, FL.  But the Eagles don't have legit stars at the traditional NFL positions of RB and FB.

The Eagles, theoretically (they won't),  could draft a bunch of rbs and/or fbs and instead of there being any WR3,  there would be a rb and a fb in the backfield.  Like almost always until fairly recently.  Not saying they should do that.   But that WR3 spot could be a FB spot or a TE2 spot,  and I don't like the idea of putting a very good WR3 out there,  because that would limit the offense to what that WR3 can do.  Spend big on WR3 and that means that the offense will have a lot of WR3,  and I don't want to see that.   I like versatile weapon at the 6th spot.   A big blocker, OT, who can catch.  Some snaps for him.   The fastest player on the team.  Some snaps for him.  A wide variety of players who bring something potent to the offense, but not the same guy all the time bringing that one potent thing.

I'd like the Eagles to trade up and get Anthony Richardson.   Hurts at QB, Brown at SE, Goedert at TE, Smith at FL, all them playing 80+% of the snaps.  RB by committee.  And Anthony Richardson is VW,  versatile weapon with a 10 Ras at WR,  10 Ras at RB, 10 Ras at QB.  That sounds good to me, and not likely to happen.   Eagles OC Brian Johnson's last OC job was with Florida, and the last QB to play for him was Anthony Richardson at the Orange Bowl. He was 3rd string, played the last drive,  a fast scoring drive with a lot of Richardson running.  Earlier in the game,  Richardson was split out at WR.   Seems right to me,  something I want,  but at this point, probably too expensive.  Diversity,  innovation, freakbeast,  at the WR3/TE2/FB spot.  Draft day,  Colts on the clock,  Richardson is available, but the Colts don't want him (not very plausible, but still).  HC Shane likes a bunch of Eagles.   Some type of trade that involves 4 for 10, and the Eagles have 30 and Eagles Shane likes.   Not that far fetched. Still not likely to happen.

More likely is an upgrade at "fastest guy".   A Running Back / Slot Back who can run 4.3 something   Achane, Gibbs, Mitchell.   So, you could have Hurts and 3 pass catching stars,  plus Penny + new fastest guy who is a running back and can play in the backfield but also has that stretch the field quality that so many here like so much.

This guy, too.   https://www.nfl.com/prospects/dj-turner-ii/32005455-5228-3151-d0bf-492aa1a59230       DJ Turner II.  Cornerback.   4.26 40 at the combine.  1.47 10 split.
"NFL Comparison Avonte Maddox."  No evidence of him playing offense. But those are fast numbers.  "Explosive athlete combining fluidity, speed and superior technique to excel at his craft.""Explosive athlete with rare speed and change-of-direction quickness."  Mock draft database has him as 3rd round 76.

And this guy https://www.nfl.com/prospects/keaton-mitchell/32004d49-5437-6653-df6c-6e9f57253f37 Keaton Mitchell.  He wouldn't be the first fast Mitchell in the NFL.   4.37 40,  1.48 10 split.   "He mashes the gas pedal and gets to top speed quickly."   "he’s electric with the ball in his hands. His big-play potential could be hard to pass up for teams needing more juice." "Led the FBS with 54 runs of 10-plus yards in 2022, per PFF." "Pure speed to eliminate pursuit angles and strike with long touchdowns." "Acceleration is instantaneous." "Able to cut and burst in a single motion."  Mock draft database has him as 6th round 189.

The Eagles really don't NEED anything on offense.  A slot WR who is just a slot WR, who is better than Quez isn't really an upgrade to me if it means that it keeps innovation and a dynamic offense off the field.  But versatile freakbeast like Anthony Richardson would be an exciting upgrade, and a new fastest guy like Mitchell or Turner would be fun.

Owner's Meeting starts tomorrow.  Might we seem some trade action?

Yes please. A stud DL or Safety or LB would be grand. Jeffery Simmons would be someone I make a call about. The three safeties I look at are Chinn, Savage & Winfield. Byard to a lesser extent. LB is a mystery due to the organizations viewpoint.

Nobody said the job should be handed to him, but given both their history in the NFL, which one do you think currently leads the competition?

If 100% healthy and looks like he did pre-broken fibula in training camp, then I'd lean towards Penny. I'm hoping a RB comes in through the draft. I doubt it's Bijan, Gibbs has a better shot I think but the odds aren't in our favor since we never drafted a RB in the first round. Roschon Johnson is someone they met with who seems to make a lot of sense. Should be there in round 3.

I guess Neal played LB with Dallas and moved back to safety with Tampa.

If Witt truly is a UDFA then matriculating him in Stoutland University makes a lot of sense.  A second contract for him if he pans out should be very affordable.  That is probably true if he is taken in the 7th Round as well.  Mailata redux.

yup  Mailata II

And I never think that a OT sized TE can't be a 6th OL, especially when he played TE for 2 years in college.  Very little video of him playing football.  More of him playing basketball.  But the interviews are interesting.  He says that most NFL teams see him as an OT, but some see him as a TE, and either way is fine with him.  He says he can gain 20 pounds and play OT or lose 20 pounds and play TE,  either way is fine with him.  At 302 pounds,  he runs a 4.89 40.  Presumably he'd be faster if he weighed 275.  I like him as a 7th rounder.

I don't think he did with the Bucs. They seem to have similar strengths which is better against the run and/or near the line of scrimmage. Unless they do move Edmunds out deep and sign Neal as a box safety with the versatility to play LB

Freeland gives you some versatility as well as he played both RT and LT at BYU so shouldn't have a Dillard issue with him.

Freeland also captain of his highschool basketball team and was in track team, javelin and shot put.

He's a pretty athletic kid.

All State Basketball.
State record Javelin.

The Dillard issue I think was "ass not strong enough".  I think that both Freeland and Witt might have that issue.

Ras compare Dillard and Freeland.

https://ras.football/ras-compare/?&p1=17986&p2=23020&pos=OT
Dillard was shorter,  Dillard was heavier.   Dillard's problem was bull rushes and probably also run blocking.

6'5 and 315 is a fairly standard and normal size for OT. That's Dillard's numbers.  6'7 302 (both Freeland and Witt) is taller and lighter than normal.   Dillard was sent to the bench because the 365 pound Mailata was more powerful.   Mailata is likely more powerful than both Freeland and Witt.

Looking more closely at the Freeland and Dillard numbers.   Dillard had superior agility.  4.4 shuttle vs 4.71.  But what jumps out is Dillards not so good vert.  29 vs Freeland 37. That 37 vert has a Ras of 9.98 for OTs.  Witt has a vert of 37 too.

Like Freeland alot but doubt he can play guard

There’s a sneaky 2 yr window with Eagles with Kelce Lane Slay and Bradberry. Replacing any of them won’t be easy to get the same quality. I think Howie knows he has to maximize that window and can’t just use this entire season to regroup. I expect a go for it move at some point but I think he’s waiting for the right move to manifest

Commies at pff are making me pay for the mock drafts now. I’m sure someone in the blog complained to them about too many posters posting their mocks in here.

Yeah Freeland looks a little light in the pants but we'll see, Dillard bulked up and anchored better was more physical I'm sure Freeland can as well.

I'm sure Stout would love to have an athlete like Freeland to work with.

Yup those verts are crazy for an OT shows some explosion, but yeah Freeland is a little more stiff than dillard.

Never seen witt play I'll have to go check him out.

Yup, I don't think he has the bulk to play guard, Herremans was  a taller guard but he also was closer to 320 than he was 300
