He had one testicle?  No, that was Steve Sabol.

The answer to my Manny Matsakis question is that he was a straight-ahead kicker, around the time when some still existed. I suspect that he was the last such kicker ever drafted into the league. The Eagles drafted him the same year they drafted Paul McFadden. Yes, they drafted TWO kickers in one draft. I believe they took Matsakis in the eighth round whereas McFadden was picked in the twelfth. Matsakis was the one they cut.

What do you know about the site Rare Vintage?

https://www.rarevntg.com/

No idea if these are just retail replicas or just really good fakes.  Have some random 80s/90s players.  Some are clear retail but some stick oiut.

They have a Jesse Small that has elastic around the waist that leads me to beleive it could be a true authentic but I don't know many NFL LB that wore a size 42.

PhotoRoom_011_20230208_181815.jpg

Holy F. That might be the exact jersey that I bought way back when. Same size (42) and everything. It's the only Eagles jersey I ever owned, and I was embarrassed as hell to own it. Because after all, who the hell would admit to actually buying a Jessie Small jersey? I kept it in the back of my closet for about thirty years. But when we won Super Bowl 52, it suddenly dawned on me that I could put it to use. I got the words "SUPER BOWL" printed on the back, so it actually stands as a tribute to our victory. It doesn't look great but it's passable. I even lost about fifty pounds just so that I could fit into it again, and I wore it to all the home games in 2018.

Time to bring it home. Take off the nameplate, get one that says Taylor...BOOM, custom Davion Taylor jersey ready for when he starts this year.

I mean no disrepect with this but are you 12?  So far you've suggested Lane Johnson at QB, Marcus Mariota at RB and now a CB for jet sweeps.

Don’t forget Jordan Davis on offense in pre-snap motion.

What are arm lengths between the two?

Donald much better.

32.625 v 30.625

overall very similar.

Height - 6010 v 6002.   1/4 inch difference.  I'll say same.
Weight - 285 v 283. 2 pound difference.  I'll say same.
So,  Donald was great in college, but some people thought he was too short.
Same size.

Arms and hands - Donald better.

Combine measurements.

Kancey better at - 40 / 20 / 10, 3 cone, shuttle, vert
Donald better at - broad, bench

I'd say based on those numbers,
Kancey is faster and more agile
Donald is longer and stronger.

Donald is a HoF great.
Kancey is comparable to a HoF great.  A lot of people were enthusiastic about Kancey before the pro day numbers.  And he just put up a set of new numbers that are also excellent.  I really like that 3 cone.   Yup,  that's a 10 RAS 3 cone for a DT.  6.82.

Both Donald and Kancey have low weights, which hurts their RAS at DT.  As DEs,  their weights are good. And the rest of their numbers are great, but not as great as for DTs.

How about Hurts at punter? He can't be any worse than Siposs and it worked for Randal.

What about mailata as a fullback…

Has anyone else not watched a single clip of the SB yet? I can’t bring myself to do it. That hurt more than any loss of any team in my life. More than ‘05.

With a shout out to @BigEd76for the excellent threads he maintains,  @just relax (bring back the Mule!) these are the OL the Eagles have shown interest in so far:

OT Matthew Bergeron (Syracuse) -- Indy Combine (formal)
OT Paris Johnson Jr. (Ohio State) -- Official Visit
OT Broderick Jones (Georgia) -- Indy Combine (formal)
OT Dawand Jones (Ohio State) -- Official Visit
OT Cody Mauch (North Dakota State) -- Indy Combine (formal)
OT Wanya Morris (Oklahoma) -- Indy Combine (formal)
OT Darnell Wright (Tennessee) -- Indy Combine

OG Jake Andrews (Troy) -- Senior Bowl
OG Anthony Bradford (LSU) -- Indy Combine (formal)
OG Asim Richards (North Carolina) -- Indy Combine
OG O'Cyrus Torrence (Florida) -- Indy Combine (formal)
OG Andrew Vorhees (USC) -- Indy Combine (formal)

Howie was busy with futures and PS extensions with signings of Tyrese Robinson (slug IMHO), Fed Johnson, Roderick Johnson, and Julian Good-Jones.   ASI see it, the Eagles biggest hole is RG, even if Jurgens plays there in 23 because I doubt Kelce plays for much longer than this season.  Also need depth at backup G, C and OT beyond Driscoll  I actually thought Toth had potential but they recently exposed him, so ?  I am pretty much done with Opeta.  Appreciate your thoughts on Torrence although he seems like questionable clay at this point,  Vorhees is interesting.  How would you address the depth and future needs?  (BTW, thanks for rejoining us.  You were sorely missed.).

Same boat. I haven’t even checked the predictions everyone gave me yet. I don’t think it’s the most painful loss, but it’s up there.

It's been more than a month and I still can't bring myself to time the punts and kicks from that game. I just don't want to watch any of it, especially since we were ahead for so much of it.

The funny thing is the loss didn’t really hurt that much (thanks to LII), but I won’t rewatch the game because I think it would then actually hurt. If that makes any sense…

Terrelle Pryor never played WR.  Then he played WR and became a 1000 yard receiver.
Taysom Hill was always a QB.  Then they decided to have Taysom do everything.

There is a long list of players doing more than the one single thing you think they're capable of.

I guess all the coaches who are actually having players do a different thing or multiple things are all 12 year olds?

Just because your brain is too limited to see the diverse possibilities doesn't mean that I can't see them,  or that coaches can't see them.

My history over the last 10 years has a pretty good amount of me saying things like "this guy could be good at another position"  and then,  that thing happens. Over and over.

And by the way,   Lane Johnson caught a TD pass in a regular season game recently for the Eagles.

So,  I guess innovation and versatility are so unpleasant to you that you block out actual Eagles TDs that actually happened.

I mentioned before that I'm not interested in the Eagles spending big on a Quez replace or upgrade, because the slot isn't a real position.  I'd rather that spot be a spot for a versatile back,  and I don't want the same guy to take the snaps over and over.   Lane Johnson could be in that versatile back spot,  so could Cam Jurgens, Kelce, Mailata,  pretty much any OL.   Pretty much any player on defense in theory.   Siri mentioned that Fletcher Cox would like to participate on offense.  I'd be in favor of that.

The Eagles offense last year had a lot of star QB throwing to 2 star WRs and 1 star TE.  Got to the Super Bowl, it worked.  Same 4 stars are there this year.   Quez is fine, but I'd like to see snaps taken from Quez and given to the versatile back,  whoever it might be, whatever he might do.

back in the old days there was no punter who just punted.  Often it was the QB who punted.

I think it takes the cake for me.

Over ‘05 and then others like ‘01-03 NFCCG losses, Alshon drop, ‘08 Eagles/Cards, Kawhi buzzer beater, ‘04 Flyers/Tampa Bay ECF, ‘10 Flyers/Blackhawks after incredible game 7 comeback vs Bruins. I’m sure I’m missing some.

The pain would be beyond comprehension if we lost this way after losing to Pats. That was the saving grace.

Maybe it’s recency bias but for me it does

Listened to the Sheil & Solak pod that covers who they think are possible.  Solak loves Witherspoon & likes Smith a lot. Would prefer a trade down

If you had a choice between JSN and Dalton Kincaid, which would you choose?

3 hours ago, RLC said:

JSN. TE at 10 is a no-go unless you're an elite, elite prospect at the position (ex: Brock Bowers).

2 hours ago, bpac55 said:

Kincaid is pretty close to elite.  He's not Brock Bowers but he's going to be a Zach Ertz type of player in the league.  I love Bowers but he's 6-4 225.  He won't be positionless in the NFL at all but he's most likely not coming in to do much blocking at all.  He's just going to be a matchup nightmare.  Kincaid is 6-4 246 and while he isn't a world beater as a TE, he's more complete IMO.  Kincaid was a flat out stud for Utah and battled through injuries, a tough SOB.  He's the kind of guy you want.

I love Bowers though.  He's special.

But also, no, not taking Kincaid at 10.

I agree … not taking Kincaid at 10, but I’m also not taking JSN at 10 either.  Perhaps the question would be more useful if it were posed as an alternative at pick #30.  Another, different way to approach the comparison of the two receivers … they are both receivers who line up outside the OT but inside the WR … is to ask at what pick # in the Draft does each of them become the BPA on the Board?

Was listening to Cosell, and he has questions about Witherspoon as an outside corner. He wonders if he ends up a slot, although he liked his tape. He loved Gonzalez and Banks.

It makes a whole lot of sense to me because I feel pretty much the same way.

Solak liked Gonzalez.  He thought Van Ness was very raw. Said he was a year away from being a year away.  Also questioned whether Murphy just is what he is. People have been saying he'll be better for years and he's the same

I'm starting to think the Eagles should trade down from 10 unless someone unexpected falls to them. I think guys like Murphy, Van Ness, Smith, Kancey, etc are similar and they could get one of them if they moved down a few spots. One or two of the corners and Branch could be also around a few spots back. I don't want to see them move way down (past 15 or so) but a trade down looks like the right move since they are probably just out of range of the handful of real elite prospects that are in this draft.
