Solak very against Kancey in latest Ringer Special podcast.  Says he's too small and will be a huge bust.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Yeah I heard. He had his reasons which are legitimate but I still like Kancey

No. Young is closer to a bust then being a stud DE as of this moment, while coming off of a serious injury. That said, the upside is still there to only drop 6 spots and pick up a second. It's a close one.

We'd be giving up the 2nd in that scenario, not picking one up.

Whoops, misread.

No way in hell, then.

There’s only two guys at 10 that I’d declare as "really want” Carter and Witherspoon. Other than that, there’s a bunch of guys I consider "guys I wouldn’t mind” meaning I won’t hate the pick but won’t be jumping up and down with it either. Guys like Murphy, Smith, Paris Johnson Jr.

And there are some guys I’d hate like Van Ness.

Warming up to Murphy.  Although he doesn't have the bend that you would like to see from a 1st rd DE, his power amd size allows him to move inside on obvious passing downs.  Murphy and Milton on the inside with Sweat, Reddick and crew coming off the edge creates quite the formidable pass rush.

Just tried it

Nothing really new, but he does believe Carter got a promise from a team in the top 10.

Does that mock have the dolphins selecting in the first round at their own pick?

Yeah. It’s basically why I can’t get excited about drafting him. He’s not really a gap and a half interior lineman, and the rush scheme would have to be built around him getting one on ones. Can he get off blocks against NFL players who are bigger and stronger than him when he doesn’t have the arm length to keep himself clean?

Round 2 no trades taking BPA.  I'll take it

I wish this class was better. There are soooo many Kancey's. Guys who show something, but have some clear flaw that makes you terrified. Whether it's weight (Forbes), instincts (Van Ness), arm length (Skoronski), finishing ability (Murphy), etc. there just aren't a ton of super-clean prospects.

It's as good as last year's.

Travon Walker went #1 overall, and CBs were taken at #3 and 4.

Solak really doesn’t like Van Ness.

Overall as good as last year, as good at the top, or as good as at those specific positions?

Last year had no QBs, and there were still great prospects at 10 (Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jameson Williams).

Stingley & Sauce >>> Gonzalez and Witherspoon. Last year's OT class was also very good (Icky, Neal, Cross).

Yep. Many of the top DEs have production issues, Carter has character issues, Kancey is too small, the wide receivers are small, Weatherspoon is light for a high first round pick, Gonzalez doesn’t play with enough aggression, Skoronski’s arms almost lock him in at guard, Forbes is a stick figure, Bryce Young weighs 190. It goes on and on.

Is there a good NFL DL with Kancey's approximate arm length?

I do think it’ll be Carter at 10 or possibly a short jump up for him. Or a trade down at 10. I can’t see anyone at 10 outside of Crter that Howie will feel he absolutely must have at the expense of losing extra draft capital. Howie is an aggressive GM. He pursues guys he highly covets. If there isn’t anyone there it makes sense a trader like him would angle to move down. Unless Stoutland is absolutely gushing over one of the OL at 10, assuming a team is willing to jump up, I think Howie trading down is the most likely scenario.

I would do anything I can to trade down in this class, even at 50% of the value-chart. There's risk everywhere, so need more dart throws.

Yeah would be a no brainier the other way around lol

This is somewhat of a slippery slope for a team, though. Carter is clearly an individual who needs to learn about consequences, and so far he has lived a consequence-free life. So if a team rewards his prior behavior by making him a top 10 pick, they risk seeing his decision-making tree take a few turns further in the wrong direction, rather than suddenly going in the right direction.

Personally, I wouldn't touch him. I would risk passing on the next Fletcher Cox to avoid picking the next Rae Carruth.

I agree that he is making a business decision, but so are the teams. And if Carter is the guy who is going to throw a fit about not being a top 10 pick, when there is a universe where he could be dead or in jail right now if things had gone slightly differently, then I would be thinking long and hard before I picked him.

An eminently reasonable point of view.

Is he a risk? Certainly. All those young men are but he's demonstrably a greater risk.

So, how risk-averse are you? More than I, it would seem. If I judge that Carter is indeed one of the top three players in the draft and I can get him at 10, I, personally, accept the risk. You do not. To me, it's an easy decision. At 10. If I would have to move up to get him, it becomes a much more difficult decision because the cost, and therefore the risk, is higher and increases with every step in trading up. Trade up to 5? I think that's probably too high. If I were Howie, I would have done more than just due diligence; I would have beaten the bushes. And, I would have a walk-away price beyond which I would not go. I would go into the draft night with a handshake in place for say, arbitrarily, the seventh pick. I say, "If my guy is there at seven, what will it take to get your pick?" And I and the other GM would know beforehand.
