Solak very against Kancey in latest Ringer Special podcast.  Says he's too small and will be a huge bust.

Seems like most in here are down on Myles Murphy... Why?

As far as I could listen to, he was suggesting if Carter is still on the board at #6 or 7 the Eagles should make the call about moving up.

Forgetting the off field stuff about Carter and only focusing on cost, I believe the trade up would need to be with SEA at #5 because DET at #6 has already had Carter in for an official visit.  I believe Carter will be the Lions pick at 6 unless even more info against Carter comes out.

The price to move up from #10 to 5 according to the Trade Value Chart means the Eagles would need to give up both #62 and #94 to make that trade (or 2024 draft capital, but escalate by one full round to compensate for the year).  That would leave the Eagles with a 2023 draft class of:

Jalen Carter

Pick #30

Pick #219

Pick #248

What could go wrong?

Too rich to reach that high.

I like Jake Witt.   Day 3 versatile freakbeast.

College Basketball player, then college Tight End,  then college OT.

The Eagles really don't have needs right now.  For other teams, a need is filled with a player who starts right away.  With the Eagles a need is "what happens if the current All Pro, future HoF, decides to retire in the future".   Those 1st round OLs are the kind of guys a team might take in the 1st round,  because they have a real need for a starting OL right now.   The Eagles,  because they have All Pros and HoFers on the OL,  can get a raw freakbeast who they can train to be a good OL in the future, and if they want to,  they can use the versatility.   I like Witt, but if you want a OL to start week 1, he's not the guy.

I like Murphy, just think 10 is too high for him.

I said this a couple days ago to another poster

I prefer bigger taller longer DEs probably because my introduction to Football was late 80s early 90s with Reggie White and Clyde Simmons who were both around 6'5" 6'6".

I really like Murphys length and he seems to use it well, and for a taller guy he seems to have pretty good change of direction, on tape he does a good job if re tracing his way back to the QB or ball carrier, I think he has a pretty quick get off he doesn't look twitchy or overly explosive but he uses his arm length well to keep tackles at a distance and disengage from them.

I don't think he has elite bend but for a taller guy he has pretty good bend, it's tough for some of those taller guys to bend and turn the corner but he's not a total stiff there

He looks like he might have the frame to move inside on passing downs, not sure if he ever did that in college?

He reminds me of Devenport in N.O. who also is a taller not super twitchy DE. Davenport went 14th which seems about the same range for Murphy

He was also the valedictorian of his class.  I really want him to be an Eagle.

Make no mistake, he's a huge project.  Only slightly more polished than Mailata. I suspect we can get him later in the draft.

extremely raw as a OT.  Only a year and a part of another year as a OT.   Didn't play against top competition.  Northern Michigan isn't Eastern Michigan.   I like him and want the Eagles to get him,  but he's not a day 1 or 2 pick.

Witt is more comparable to BYU Freeland, physically.  And Freeland was playing OT for 4 years.  And BYU is tougher competition than Northern Michigan.

Mock draft database has Freeland at 3rd / 94.   Witt is not there on the mock draft database site.
So, I don't think Witt is a day 1 or 2 guy.

Well yeah seeing as BYU had the 13th toughest schedule last year I'd say it's a bit tougher competition...😉

Is there a good NFL DL with Kancey's approximate arm length?

I'd love to know anyone in general with his arm length since he's a 1 percentile. Shariff Floyd has really short arms but even his are 31 3/4". That's almost a full inch longer than Kancey.

To put it in perspective, Kyler Murray has 28 1/2" arms. Kancey has just 2 inches on him.

Dane Brugler has LVN in his top 10 still, and I’ll trust Brugler over Solak

DJ and Bucky both said the vibe in the league is he goes top ten. See no reason why those guys should lie about it

Yeah I heard. He had his reasons which are legitimate but I still like Kancey

Kancey is frequently compared to Donald but the comparison does not, um, hold. Donald's arms are more than two inches longer. He'll be an easy mark for NFL linemen to block. Don't want at all.

If we can come away with Carter and Torrence, I'll be a happy guy.

DJ also said Jermaine Johnson was one of the top players in the 2022 class and had him #9 overall in his top 50. He went #26. They get it wrong too.

Yeah. I like Solak, but don’t think he’s one of the top draft guys, and definitely not as plugged in as guys like Brugler/DJ/Bucky.

If Van Ness is a top 10 pick that says way more about the quality (or lack thereof) of this draft class than it does about Van Ness

That's not what player rankings are. DJ's top 50 are how HE would scout them. It's not a mock draft.

I think Kancey's arm length, while a concern, is being blown way out of proportion.  Most DT that play his style, have shorter arms that any of the OL they go against.  A quick first step and great technique will help him overcome the issue.  He has insanely quick, violent hands.  That's the important part.  He can use that to get his hands on the OL first.  That's more important in the trench battles than anything else. If, Kancey gets his hands on the OL first, or can use his hands to chop the OL, that's the important part.

A player with lazy technique and long arms and slow hands is going to lose the battle because he can't get his hands on the OL first.

DeMarcus Ware has 33 1/4" arms.  Donald has 32 5/8" arms so over an 1 1/2" difference here.  Look how quick, violent hands can get a player with reach off of you.  Kancey is going to be a force in the NFL.

I mean the short arms help him stay low to the ground.

Well,   BYU is Division 1,  FBS.

Northern Michigan isn't even Division 1,  FBS or FCS,  it's Division II.

Witt played a year and a part of a year at a DII school at OT.   He was 2nd team Gliac though.

People are putting Witt in their mock drafts here and he's available in the 7th on those mock drafts.

I'd like him, but day 3.

32 teams have 32 different draft boards the odds that one of them had Jermaine Johnson at 9 but another player above him when they drafted is probably pretty good.

I know what it is, all I'm saying is he thought highly of him. In his actual mocks he had him as high as #7 and in the top 10 a lot. My point is he's not lying, but it doesn't mean he's correct either, it's just an opinion. And he can be wrong just like anyone else can.

Hell he had Malik Willis in the first round every mock draft and he went in the third.
