For better or worse, a rookie safety wouldn’t have to play. We have warm bodies at the position.

Maybe I'm just reading that tweet wrong but it seems to me he's suggesting Howie drafts for need on someone important to make the defense work, aka starting right away and givng impactful play.

If backups were game winners they wouldn't be backups.

I didn't write game winner, I wrote game manager. A game manager has a shot at winning or losing. A game winner skews toward winning, a game loser skews toward losing.

Honest has been doubling down on his safeties and Desai stuff and nothing that has happened has backed it up. If anything it looks like they value safety less

Read Zach Berman’s depth chart article and he shows Marquis Blair as a back of the roster S.  I recall that the outlier reporters said something bout him signing a futures contract but the Eagles never showed that on PE.com nor on the roster.  I do know they signed Tristin McCollum, who Zach lists as a CB. The Eagles list him as a DB.  In college he mainly played S.  His twin brother is a CB. Anyone else recall Blair being an Eagle?

Zach lists Bradley as backing up Morrow and Elliss backing up Dean.  He’s basically showing a 5/2/4 schematic in the depth chart.  He basically lists Davis as a NT but has Wilson backing him up and Marlon T backing up Cox. That seems backwards. Speaking of Wilson, he has been a disappointment considering all the talent he suggested coming out of high school.

What’s real interesting is all the OL they signed to futures.  Several of whom have NFL experience.  Opeta, Williams, Good Jones, both Johnsons, Robinson, Tom and Toth. That and Driscoll are the current depth. I expect that to change.

Both caps sites have Blair on the roster FWIW. I'm guessing whoever runs the roster page just forgot to add him.

He technically quit. He’s not officially banned.

If a backup consistently skews a game towards winning then they would be a starter.

He did this so he could still make a second account for which he can take screenshots from for his records.

Great catch. It's on the PR media guide roster but it was never communicated to us that it happened. If it was 2/9 that would have been SB week, so I can see why we held off but once we announced the other futures guys he wasn't included.

Drafting safety round 1 in a year when there really aren’t any exciting prospects at the position is the very definition of drafting for need.

I agree, that's why most are game managers of a 50-50 proposition based on the rest of the team. Wentz brings a team down to less than 50-50 and skewed toward losing. We don't need to continue. You don't need to agree with my opinion nor do I with yours. Have a nice day.

Let's look big picture here.  Over the next 2 years, the Eagles have what appears to be 18 draft picks, only 6 this year and the 12 of those being next year.  Howie can trade down and add more, but as of right now, I'm looking at it as 6 picks.  In past drafts where the Eagles have had huge gaps between rounds, Howie hasn't jumped at adding those picks.

Robinson is a generational talent, a guy everyone thinks is going to be a stud.  The only knock people have against him is that he plays RB.  Now, there is no guarantee that he becomes that HOF back he's being touted as but adding him to the Eagles puts him in absolutely the best position to be great.  He's almost a sure thing to be an impact player.  Robinson, if he is what we think he, is should easily surpass anything Miles Sanders did for this team.  Let's assume at the very least the Eagles get 5 years out of him at 2022 Miles Sanders production.  With pick 10, the Eagles would be getting 6,345 yards and 55 TDs.  That would put him 400 yards shy of Shady's Eagles rushing record and 11 more TDs that he had during his career.  Robinson just turned 21.

Are there any other players at pick 10 that have the potential to be the impact player Robinson is looking to be?  If they go DL, they are looking at a player who at most is playing 60% of the snaps even when he starts in a year.  If they go OL or CB, they are picking a player who very well could sit for 2 years.  Would you rather draft a RB and get a full 5 years of potential Eagles HOF #'s or would you want to draft a position where that player is on the bench for 2 years out of his 5 year contract.  We wouldn't even know what those players could be until year 3.

Next years DL class is looking to be deep.  I look at a guy like Jared Verse at DE or Leonard Taylor at DT as guys who would be at the top of this years draft class.  With those 12 picks, Howie is going to be able to move up and down as he pleases.  There are plenty of plenty of Lukas Van Ness or Myles Murphy type of players every year.  There aren't Bijan Robinson type players every year.

The Eagles aren't going to find themselves at pick 10 very often.  RB like Robinson don't come around very often either.  Again, the only knock against Robinson is the position he plays but I'm talking myself in to not caring about that anymore.  Give me a game changer from day 1 through the very end of his contract rather than a guy who might not even play almost half of his contract.

I perfectly understand your case for Bijan, I feel like I debate myself everyday about pros and cons of drafting Bijan. Think he’s the most polarizing player for us right now. The one issue I keep thinking about when drafting Bijan, is that it’s going to take the ball out of our 50 million dollar QB hands more often. I want Jalen to have the ball as much as possible this year. Bijan is fantastic, but I don’t think Eagles need a dominant RB, just an effective one. That’s why I’d prefer going to day 2 or 3 for a RB.

Love the first four picks.  Charlie Jones?  If you go WR, then take Derius Davis the WR from TCU whose average Punt Return on a whole bunch of returns was over 14 yards

Jones has both punt and kick return experience.

Also the case of Bijan vs OL/DL in the first. We were fortunate to have incredible health on our roster last season. Think we only saw what, one season ending injury and that was Barnett right?

Chances are guys are going to go down this year. If Davis goes down again, or Sweat, or both, our DL looks incredibly weak all of a sudden. What happens if Mailata gets hurt? Or Dickerson’s injury history finally bites him? Our OL could be very rocky then. Won’t matter how good Bijan is if our pass rush can’t stop the other teams offense, or if our OL can’t get to the second level. Even worse, runs the risk of Jalen having a higher probability of getting hurt. You want Mariota for 6 weeks?

The premise is that good teams rarely have the opportunity to take top-10/elite RB prospects - so we are in uncharted territory,

I didnt ask what the premise was. Thats easy to understand.

i asked if you can cite a case where it worked out to the positive

3 weeks until we can all shut up about taking a RB in round 1

Paul Hornung, Franco Harris, Sweetness, Emmmmitt; Jamaal Lewis might be an example of ‘pushed over the top’ RB selection - it happens, but not recently.

Ehh. Branch would be a value pick at 30 based on media big boards. Pick 30 looks pretty weak this year.

Edge?

Home from the hospital after my ureteroscopy.  It’s just as much fun as it sounds.  Finally the end of my 369-day odyssey living with a kidney stone.  First time I’ve been put under since wisdom tooth surgery 35 years ago.  Age certainly makes a difference; felt disoriented longer after waking up, and actually sat in a wheelchair and got pushed to the exit for the ride home.

Very painful after the anaesthetic wore off; felt like they put a stone in instead of taking one out.  Painkillers kicked in after 2.5 hours.

If there’s a next time I might opt for the other lithotripsy.

Last year had no QBs, and there were still great prospects at 10 (Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jameson Williams).

Stingley & Sauce >>> Gonzalez and Witherspoon. Last year's OT class was also very good (Icky, Neal, Cross).

This year has no QB's either TBH.  There's a lot of promise, but all of them have huge question marks.  One who's being discussed as a top 5 pick isn't even draft able IMO.
