I would say the limitation is at RB. Who have they had on the roster who could be considered a good receiving back?

Gainwell was a prolific receiver at RB at Memphis

Maddox is a good player but I think he's easier to replace if you don't use Josiah Scott.  This is going to sound silly but if you have better players on the roster, the easier it is to replace someone.  Josiah Scott isn't that guy.  They should have gone after Mike Hilton when he was available rather than extending Maddox.  Clark Phillips has the skillset and is built perfect to thrive as an NFL slot CB.

I was big on Hilton that year and did not like that Maddox extension either. I do like  Phillips. Another slot guy in this draft I like would be Chris Smith. He could also play safety and be a versatile secondary player. Gives you a little better size and physicality in the slot as well.

First three picks would be awesome in my book but there's pretty much zero percent chance that happens too. Jones really rose up, not surprisingly. He's my favorite o-lineman for the right side in the draft. I'd take him over the Ohio State guys, wouldn't even hate his selection at 10.

I think Witherspoon does it all. He's physical, he's instinctive, good coverage, ball skills. And his 40 time displayed speed and athleticism.

Also get strong leadership vibes from him. Think he could be a Malcolm Jenkins type of leader in the NFL for a team.

I think those who aren't high on him have just tunnel visioned themselves into only gushing over 6'3 corners who run 4.2 40's and jump out of the gym. Otherwise, I don't see what's not to like about Witherspoon.

I dont know.

He might not be the 6'2'' guy people want these days, but I think he can play outside.

I draw the line at the 5'8'' 5'9'' types like Phillips II or Hodges-Tomlinson.

5'11'' may not be ideal these days but I think WItherspoon can handle it.

Tomlinson would be a good add at slot cb

4.2 with long arms is nice, but it’s really not the primary ingredient for an elite cover cb.  But…an elite cover cb does need to be the goal for anyone drafted there.  Top 10 isn’t where I care about being well rounded, a good tackler, or positional versatility.  The goal is someone that can shut down their half of the field or eliminate a #1 wr from the game.

I haven’t watched Witherspoon play so I have no opinion there.  His raw specs don’t jump off the page, but don’t leave deficiencies either.

If he gets taken at 10 the plan would be to put him at RG immediately.

Witherspoon has good hips and technique from what I've seen.  Gonzalez is the wild card to me...seems to be more of an athlete than a CB at this stage of his career.

And was on the field for a total of 331 snaps this past year in 17 games. That’s 20 per game during the regular season. He had 29 passing targets and 53 rushing attempts (down from 50 and 68 as a rookie).

It seems to me that when we have a back who can catch on the field, we pass them the ball a lot relative to how often they run. It’s just that Sanders was our lead back and he isn’t a good receiver.

Agreed.  Love him and Phillips II

Yup, basically. He has the flexibility to shoot out to tackle if we have injuries.

I still think the Eagles will pursue Carter(even if a small trade up) and if they can't get him, they'll trade down.

OT could very well be the best player on the board at 10, and I think for Howie it's going to be simple math. OT is going to be a bigger need for some other NFL team at 10 than it is going to be for the Eagles in the immediate. Therefore, I think there could be a team that pays a pretty penny to jump up and grab a tackle. Assuming the QBs are gone by 10. If a QB falls, I definitely think Howie is going to be pounding that phone to move down.

And I think aside from a player or two at 10, most of the guys there are going to be of the same caliber they could get at 15-20.

I think prototypical / off the charts specs are sufficient at edge rusher and WR to go high round 1.

Part because of the increased value of the position, part because those are more downhill athlete positions.  At cb, I think too many subtleties need to fall into place to draft a more raw guy that high for their measurables.

If you run a 3.9 and bite on every double move, it won’t matter.

I like him a lot.  He battles.  I like DJ Turner too.  Not because of his 40 time but he just always showed up when watching UM games.

I don't think the Eagles will draft a RB at all. Bijon is possible if they trade down like 10 slots and he falls but generally I just don't think they'll do it.

Give me Gonzales as CB 1

Its obviously design. Already have alot of mouths to feed who are quite talented.

or are they working around the limitations at qb?

That is the key question.

Could be worth a shot as that slot / kick returner

and low cost

They kept him around. Hopefully that is because they believe something is there.  Same situation as Sermon.

Refresh my memory....ESP claims he could hit a home run right?

Can’t go wrong with a TCU WR in round 1. 3.85 out of 20 Howies. You are batting below the Mendoza line.

Listening to ITB's mock from Friday they are either getting different/better information than most people out there or are completely clueless. This was their top 9:

1. Carolina - Young

2. Houston - Stroud

3. Indianapolis - Richardson

4. Arizona - Anderson

5. Seattle - Carter

6. Detroit - Witherspoon

7. Oakland - Gonzalez

8. Atlanta - Van Ness

9. Chicago - Wilson

So some context. They start off fine but go off the rails. Caplan is insisting that at least two corners are gone before the Eagles pick, and that 3 could possibly go in the top 10. He was going to have Atlanta take Porter JR and then Mosher reminded him that they have Terrell and have a far greater need at DE. However, they take the wrong DE with Van Ness over Wilson. This was Caplan pushing for Van Ness and Mosher doesn't correct him that WIlson is a FAR better prospect. Then at 9 while Wilson is incredible value and the right pick, Caplan says the Bears need OL help but it's not that big of a need and no OL are worthy of a top 10 pick.

So they get to the Eagles pick and they say in this scenario the Eagles probably trade down to someone who wants Levis. Makes perfect sense. However, they say if the Eagles stay at 10 in this scenario that Joey Porter is the most likely person they would take.

Throughout the show Caplan was pushing narratives and Mosher just kept saying "I need to start doing more research," which is funny since the draft is less than 3 weeks away. I guess it's just too fluid of a situation for him to have the real intel.

Where is it that you think they go off the rails?

2 hours ago, greendestiny27 said:

Van Ness is pretty hot right now, both Buck & DJ spoke about him and believe he goes top 10. I'm sure they are following that lead. At this spot we have our choice of the very 1st o-lineman. Howie will be awfully tempted to take their guy. Though I'd rather trade back in this scenario.I would have tried to move up for Wilson if he fell like they suggest. Atlanta would have been prime for that move. I do wonder if Porter may be a better fit at safety but we're not drafting a safety that high so it's irrelevant.

I've heard that about Van Ness, but to take him over Tyree Wilson is insanity. Also, three CB's in the top 10 and picking Joey Porter JR at 10 over Murphy, Smith, Skoronski, Johnson, and even Bijan is laughable.

Van Ness over Wilson, saying the Eagles should take Porter JR at 10 under that scenario, claiming three corners might go in the top 10 earlier in the mock, etc etc. Just listen to the POD too. It's obvious that Caplan is just making crap up at this point and Mosher said multiple times "I need to do more research" which is laughable since it's his job and the draft is 3 weeks away. About the only thing Mosher added was that he has talked to some people who aren't that high on Gonzalez.

If it were up to me, I would get rid of Maddox if it made financial sense.  Like you said, he's hurt too often.  I would love Clark Phillips from Utah to play the slot.  He's a plug and play from day 1 and he would be a perfect fit there.

Double dipping at CB with a trade down into the 20s and selecting Banks there, and then Phillips with a Day Two pick would be quite attractive.
