I guess people listened to Shiel and Fran Duffy and are now on the Falcons will draft Bijon train.  It is a winnable division but they are on a road to nowhere without a QB

The back story of Frantz and Weymouth trying to remove David Byrne from The Talking Heads in 1981 is one of my favorites:

No, going from +1600 to +1000 means the odds got better for the Eagles to pick him. It’s a smaller payout.

I've allowed myself to talk myself into this actually being a possibility. Which is scary because in my entire life the Eagles have never drafted the player I most loved in a draft. I do think it is possible with rumors about teams liking Wilson more, Cardinals possibly trading down, Howie having a history of trading up for guys he loves and thinks will be difference makers.

You will get a guard, and you will like it!!

Sorry read that wrong and mentally reinforced what I heard on nfl radio last night. Jim and Pat saying he could easily be gone by 10

Yea.

OR

Words gotten out Howie is trading up for Bijan!

Bijan going to a non Eagles top 10 team is great for the Eagles. Still doubt it happens.

Admittedly though, I do want the satisfaction of all the mouth breathers who called into sports radio over the last month saying he needs to be the pick being utterly gutted when the Eagles pass on him. And for that he needs to be there when the Eagles pick.

If the Eagles trade up, it's really the perfect scenario. A bunch of those people are going to think it's for Bijan. And seeing them trade up for someone else will be delicious.

What seems to me to be missing in the discussion of guards is quality. The position in most of the posts I've read is treated generically. If the starter is a JAG, then any replacement can be a JJAG without much loss of production. However, if the guard is a high quality player, you will lose production and in particular in the run game. It has been my mantra for decades that you pass with tackles and you run with guards. Replace one mediocre guard with another, no big deal. Replace a mediocre guard with a stud and you make a big jump, as the Eagles did when they added Dickerson in 2021 in place of Matt Pryor.  Big jump in yardage ~ 700yards.

If there was a Zack Martin or a Quentin Nelson or a Larry Allen or a Shawn Andrews, etc. there would be no question as to the value of the player. The problem this year is that there is no such player. There are a number of guys who could follow the Isaac Seumalo track, say, and become outstanding guards with good coaching and experience, but there is no one who can come in and make this team notably better at the position this year. Skoronski seems a semi-popular name but in my limited view Jurgens is a better player right now and will continue to improve while Skoronski will be what he is now, technically very sound but physically limited. Kind of like Driscoll.

I am not averse to drafting a guard at #10 by any means, but not from this year's group.

Yep.  This is a top 10 pick.  You either take advantage of the position and move up to get a must have player (I don't feel there is one, not even Anderson) or you trade down (if there's a willing team).  There aren't many guys that are top 10 talent in this years draft, especially when it comes to OL.  Add to that, the Eagles have the best OL coach in the NFL, and picking talent later in the draft won't be that much of a drop off.

This is just a bad draft to have the 10th pick. If Bijan Robinson is the pick instead of Carter or Skoronski, I'd be thrilled. There aren't any must have players at 10 for me but if those 3 are on the board and they can't trade down, give me Robinson. I don't necessarily want Robinson at 10 but I know who I don't want.  I'd much rather draft a RB who gives the Eagles 5 amazing years instead of a lazy, overrated DT and a positionless OL who is going to be good but not great in the NFL.

I could actually be convinced to try this -- what's the worst that can happen??

I hang glided when I was a reckless college student. But I would never have done a wing suit.  We never hang glided off cliffs.  There is a dead spot in the updraft right up against the rock.  The winds can be fickle too.   After one death, a serious injury from a wind shift and a friend on one trip hitting a barbed wire fence on his first flight and finding the sole pine tree off a butte in OK and "landing” twenty feet up in it on his second flight all in our club of about fifty, I decided I had pushed my luck as far as I wanted to go and quit.  A hang glider is more forgiving than a wing suit and wing suits don’t seek altitude which with a hang glider can fix most any screwup (let go of the control bar and a glider will right itself).  Funny thing is, I took up hang gliding to try and totally overcome my dislike of heights but I still hate cliffs to this day.   I don’t chase class 4 rapids anymore either.

Let me say, I have a lot of respect for stoutland and his abilities to work with guys and get them to their peak. i hope jurgens plays RG at a high level but I’m not just banking on jurgens is just automatically gonna be good at right guard in his first year playing there and no chance he doesn’t have issues like seumalo did in his first attempt at starting guard in his second season.

Can say jurgens is a better prospect and player but Seumalo played as a rookie. Was working with stoutland as a rookie as well. His second year they wanted him to start at guard. He got benched because he wasn’t good enough yet. It took seumalo until his third year to get to the point where he was a competent starter and really after that to where he was just good.

The Eagles do not have a Stephen Wisniewski on this roster. They have driscoll who doesn’t stay healthy. frankly, the more he plays I think the more he gets exposed that you’re not good enough at guard if it comes to that. I am hoping jurgens can play right guard at a high level but i don’t think it’s as much of a certainty as others on here.

I wouldn’t be thrilled about Skoronski, but I’d take him over Bijan in a heartbeat. OL is a huge need, the Eagles lack depth there after guys left in free agency. And I think Skoronski will be very good as a guard, and a tackle I think it’s a question but a lot of draft experts think he’ll be great as a tackle too. Bijan isn’t a sure thing to be dominant, don’t forget. People have just assumed he’s different than other prospects and is a guaranteed star. And there’s no way in hell I’d pass on Carter for Bijan.

But Howie isn’t taking a RB in the first round so this is all moot.

I have a very hard time believing the Eagles would leak anything like this unless it was a smoke screen. They hardly give you any information with anything. They are definitely not going to start giving out info on who they like in the draft.

I absolutely hate this argument that people make. It’s not like the Eagles haven’t given stoutland talent in the first three rounds of the draft to work with. The best thing he’s ever done with lane Johnson the best tackle in the NFL. He was the fourth overall pick. They drafted Andre Dillard in the first round for stoutland. They drafted cam Jurgens in the second round. They drafted Isaac seumalo in the third round. Landon Dickerson in the second round

mailata and vaitai are great late rounders by stoutland and the eagles. However, if Jeff stoutland believes a guy in the second round or the third round or at 10 has the talent to be drafted there or even higher they are gonna take him and not just bank on stoutland being good so he can build up a 6th rounder instead. If they think that player is worthy of being taken at that selection, and stoutland loves him they’re going to take him.

I don’t think these are intentional leaks. People talk and word gets around. It’s inevitable when you talk to so many people around the draft. Agents, players, scouts, executives are all talking.

In a recent interview on NFL Network, Mississippi State CB Emmanuel Forbes revealed he's in the 174-177 pound range right now and his goal is to be at 180 by the start of the NFL season.

best ballhawk in the draft imo , he along with  ,Banks , Gonzales , Stevenson and Smith make up my top 5 CBs

My prediction is that the Eagles will trade up with Anderson on the board and take Skoronski

Unpopular opinion on my end, but he helped make Nate Herbig in to a starting guard in the NFL. He was able to get some good out of Matt Pryor, although there was much more bad.  I guess my argument is Stoutland is better at his job, and I'd trust a late round OL pick more than I would a late round DL pick because the Eagles don't seem to know how to develop them.

I also like the fact that Stoutland was running the OL drills at the combine.  I'm sure he has his list.

My fourteen year old mini dachshund Swoop died today😢. Maybe he can bring us a championship!

Don’t get me wrong. I think Jeff stoutland is super good at his job. He maximize the talent that he is giving it gets the most out of them. However, the Eagles best linemen besides mailata that they’ve given Jeff stoutland have come early in the draft. They gave him lane, dillard, Dickerson, cam jurgens and seumalo. Mailata is the only high end caliber starter from those late round picks and udfa. Imo herbig and vaitai are ok starters in a league desperate for quality olinemen. Dickerson, lane, seumalo are good to great starters in the league and likely jurgens when kelce retires. All were first 3 rounds.

I tend to think if you give Jeff stoutland the talent of a first, second or third round pick he is going to maximize it even more and you’ll see more Dickerson, seumalo and Lane’s where as later picks you are seeing a variety from Driscoll to pryor to vaitai to mailata. Dillard is about the only high round oline they gave stoutland that didn’t become at least an above average starter. And they really didn’t do their homework on him like they should’ve and they even said it. Jurgens jury is out still but if he excels this year that’s 4 of 5 picks.
