They draft well, they generally (as of recently) evaluate players correctly and pick players that can play at a high level. That's what I mean by drafting well.

The eagles problem is evaluating players, they just aren't as good at it. That's why we end up with Marcus smiths, Sidney jones, jjaws, pumphreys, etc. Credit to Howie, the last two drafts have been much better

I highly suspect that every team in the league has blown a first, two seconds, and a fourth over the past seven or eight years. That’s just the nature of drafting. As Eagles fans, we tend to look only at our own picks, and lose sight of the fact that it’s practically impossible to nail picks all the time.

Well there is a huge change in the front office, including scouts, from last year. Very few go back to the players you list (besides Howie).  Andy Patch and Ryan Myers (although Myers had a different level role back then).  Same with Phil Bhaya, who got promoted after last year’s draft to Director of Draft Management but had no role in the west, nor did Myers.  Real curious about what that Draft Management job entails.

Time for PA to legalize it before losing out to tax revenue to NY, NJ, MD, DE.  As so many Eagles live in NJ, I hope the NFL goes away from testing for pot.  They also have to get more sensible than suspending players for taking medications under prescription.  How nonsensical is it to suspend a player for taking a drug to increase fertility trying to have a child.  Or forgetting to register for ADD drugs.  I understand avoiding performance enhancing drugs but to think deadening pain doesn’t enhance performance is nonsense.

NM legalized in April 2022 and collected over $214 million by the end of the year.  Another revenue stream for New Mexicans that was going to AZ and Colorado before.  Good business for job creation/investment and more tax revenue.  Never made sense that it was illegal.  Everybody could get whenever they wanted anyways and there was no tax revenue/legitimate business.

I brought that up last week when I talked about him.  The way Pace plays the game, I'm not concerned about his size one bit. Sure, 5-10 230 isn't ideal but he just has a playing style that this team is lacking.  Mychal Kendricks was the same kind of player and he's the one guy I wanted during that draft.  I think Pace can come in and be just as effective, if not more so.

Nick Bolton is 5-11 237 and plays the exact same type of game Pace does.  He was all over the field during the SB.

I'd love to see the Eagles double dip with Sanders and Pace.

I'd be happy with just one higher rated LB. I don't even have confidence we do that, unfortunately.

It’s not just the fact that the Eagles blew the pick. Or had a bad 2017 draft. The fact that pick was drafted in the fourth round and had zero NFL carries or receptions in his career. It’s is a really bad pick whether it was the eagles or any team for multitude of reasons. I went back and looked at every RB selected in the 4th round since 2002, 88 were selected and only 6 never got a single reception or carry in the nfl. 2 were Lattimore and Bryce love who had bad knee injuries coming into their nfl career and were projected higher prior to that. Didn’t know if Lattimore would ever play again. 1 was a fullbacks not really "running back”. So pumphrey is one of the 3 to accomplish that feat not being a fullback or coming into the league with a major injury. It’s a 6.8% that happens including all 6. When you take the fullback and 2 injuries it’s 3.5%

that’s not just a bad pick, I’d argue it’s one of their worst 4th round selections in the last 25 years considering who went after him, how deep that draft was at rb and how unlikely it is he’d never get a carry or reception in the nfl being a 4th rounder.

Idaho has that issue at the moment. Most people in the Boise area travel to this crappy little town called Ontario in Oregon. Population of only 11,000 people, and 31,000 in entire county, yet the county Ontario is in is the second highest earning county in weed revenue in all of Oregon with over $100 million in revenue last year. That’s all because they’re an hour drive from the Boise area. It’s where I go, usually takes me less than 2 hours round trip since I’m a bit closer.

Idaho is literally surrounded by all legal states, all idaho citizens are going to these other states & it bothers me so much. I wish people would lose the stigma behind it, realize marijuana is really not that bad, and recognize how much money we are essentially handing other states because we’re so behind in the times

Reminds me of when I lived in Kentucky and my girlfriend's family lived in a dry county. Everybody in that county would drive to the surrounding counties to buy their liquor. As soon as you crossed the county line, there were a ton of liquor stores.

Indiana loses all the revenue to illinois and michigan

You caused my historian itch.  The illegality ties to cotton interests versus hemp. (The biggest hemp farmer at the time of our founding as a country was George Washington.) Hemp v cotton is a cautionary story that educates us on the potential impact of monied interests and lobbying in a democratic republic.  Playing on the prohibition type concerns, the move from hemp was a classic study in one of my history classes. (Imagine a play on morality concerns for economic profit.) The interesting thing was how hemp may have been a superior plant based fabric and more environmentally friendly to grow. (Cotton strips nutrients.  One need only drive through the Deep South today to see the impact cotton had on the soils.)  I am curious about what use of hemp fabrics and bamboo wood substitutes we will see in the next decades.

The agrarian history of this country and the mistakes we made along the way are fascinating (to me,)

Ditka and Gonzalez I'd argue are GOAT'd.  Witten is close to them.  You can start adding names to to those 3 I think.

Gotta say I don't know much about Ditka the player.  Only the coach I know.  Way before my time so I can't really speak on his greatness as a player. I'm sure he was though.

Still a long, long ways to go.

I do hate the Lakers.  Mavs and Suns too.

Lakers match up well with Grizzlies who are missing 2 really good inside players and now Morant is hurt.  They should win this series unfortunately.

Yup.

If the player does not have a unique skill set there’s no reason to take one early this year.

Tommy has a few clips of Braedan Daniels in his igglesblitz.com today. I must say I was quite impressed. Excellent feet. He can really slide laterally, something that the Maryland tackle, Jaelen Duncan, who gets a lot of press cannot do. Daniels is a bit light in the caboose, though.

For me, its Witt all the way. Remember what Howie said about OL on the Kelce podcast.

Witt on day 2 & pass on OL on day 1 please.

I can't help but wonder if Hendon Hooker will be drafted than one or both of Levis and Richardson.  He's older, but seems to have less questions about him than the others.

If he wasn't coming off a torn ACL, he'd be up there.  Age and ACL are the only things IMO holding him back.  We need to hope he falls to 30 so the Eagles can hopefully use the 5th year option as trade leverage for a QB needy team.

I wouldn't expect Witt to contribute anytime soon, basically a Mailiata project but also having to gain good weight as well.  2-3 year timeframe where he'd be a gameday inactive for at least his rookie season.  This works given the remainder of the Lane window - but other guys like Freeland would likely give you a swing tackle option from the jump (but at an obvious cost in draft capital).

The more I see of Hooker, the more I see a QB that is probably the 2nd or 3rd best in the draft.  He has the ACL and age concerns, but if you are desperate for a QB, he seems a better developed prospect than Levis or Richardson are. I'd love him to fall and get a trade down, because someone will pay up for him before the 1st night is done

I believe the Tennessee offense is a bit peculiar, so not very translatable to the next level; then these is the age and ACL - but I do believe the mechanics are better, if the raw skills are not.  I wouldn't consider him the 1st round... but I'm not a desperate GM.

How many Howie's?

If Stroud, Young, Levis and Richardson all go before pick 10 and I'm the Eagles, I'm calling the Vikings with pick 23 to try and convince them that Hooker won't make it past the Seahawks at 20.  Kirk Cousins is in the last year of his contract and I can't see the Vikings shelling out money to keep him.  The only other QB on their roster is Nick Mullens.  The Vikings need a QB.  Hooker could learn from the bench and make sure he's 100% healthy.

Would you do pick 10 and 94 for pick 23, 87, 119 and 2024 1st?  Vikings don't have a 2nd but you could swap 3rds, moving up 7 slots, pick up a 4th where the Eagles don't have one and get the extra 1st rounder in 24.

Vikings get Hooker at 10, which might be high but it secures them a QB of the future for 5 years and they can walk away from Cousins.

At 23, many of the players we have discussed look MUCH better.
