Bigsby then Johnson are my backs after Bijan. I feel like you need a three down style guy. If not Bijan then those are my guys 2 and 3. Bigsby to me would be really good without using a 1st on a back. I love Gibbs but he's not a three down guy or not someone I want shouldering the load to close a game out in the 4th. Though I just love his style and explosion so I'd be totally fine if they go this route. Maybe we get lucky and get a good bigger back as a UDFA to compete with Sermon.

I really wish there wasn't a no-trade clause. Only thing about the deal I would have pushed back on more.

I mean he earned and deserved to ask for it. Frankly if the eagles seriously wanted to deal him then I’m not sure he would want to remain here knowing that the eagles felt that way about him.  It’s a good contract especially cause i think herbert and burrow are likely to ask for more.

We'll have to see how it's structured. And he won't be highest paid for long. Herbert and Burrow will top it.

Exactly, and the $179.3M guaranteed is the more important number than the $255M total amount of the deal.

Depending how they structure it, the deal could be a 4-year commitment in practical terms, if the Eagles are paying out $45M in guarantees for the first 4 years.  It would act as an exit after 4 years if something goes wrong, and a logical extension point if all goes well.

Surprised the guaranteed number only came in at 179m. Thought for sure Hurts' camp would push for 200+.

This should give Eagles flexibility with restructurings, and the last year is most likely a dummy and bloated year.

Good for Jalen. He got basically everything. Kinda surprised Howie went with the no trade clause but that seems to be the new thing with QB's.

Lamar is not getting more than that. No chance

Skins will trade for him as new owner wants to whip out his dick and show he is in charge now, just watch

Swag 😎

Happy for Jalen.  Just hope he doesn't regress.  He's really only had 1 year where he played exceptionally well.

Fingers crossed........

One thing is for certain though. When you pay QBs big money, it makes hitting on draft picks absolutely vital. It's why the idea of taking a RB in the top 10 is asinine. It's going to be difficult to go out and spend huge money, which is what premium positions cost in free agency. The Eagles for some time going forward here will be focusing in on keeping their own. Reddick only signed a 3 year deal so he'll need to be re-signed after 2023, Dickerson, Devonta, etc. And supplementing the rest with draft picks.

But the young core is going to be together for a while. Hurts, Smith, Brown, Goedert, Dickerson, Mailata, Reddick, Davis, Williams, etc.

Knew he was going to get paid a hefty chunk. Good for him.

Gotta wonder how the team building around him is going to work, but we'll see.

I feel this way if the eagles were ever really serious about wanting to deal hurts during this contract then would  hurts really want to be here knowing the eagles don’t want him at that point? Feel like most would say likely not but this gives him some leverage in where hes traded to if it ever came to that as he just invokes no trade if he doesn’t like the team they wanted to ship him too.

He's not but he probably thinks he is now. This deal is probably the final nail in the Jackson/Ravens coffin.

I really like De’Wayne McBride from UAF as a potential later round guy in that vein as well.

We’ll find out if Hurts can be dominant enough and Howie can draft well enough for the Eagles to be SB competitors now that they can’t pay veterans.  If the answer is no, it’s *only* a 3 year recovery process, so that’s decent protection.

He’s gonna wind up in DC.

Morris? Really raw but he's got the tools. Long arms, good feet. Day Three guy but someone Stoutland can develop if he has the mental capacity. I know he got suspended for academics at OU. That's pretty hard to do. OU is not exactly MIT. Reminds me a bit of Big V.

Think i meant Harrison but thats good stuff too

With as much love Howie has been getting the past few years then that shouldn't be a problem lol

Kind of surprised it's just a 5 year extension. If Hurts maintains his performance, he has set himself up nicely for another huge pay day.

Yep.  A "no-trade" clause is a misnomer.  The NHL has it as the norm for established veterans, and it acts essentially as the player controls where he wishes to go.  It can be a pain in the butt if your player is Jarome Iginla and gives the organization only Boston and Pittsburgh as the list of teams he'll waive it for -- then when you work out a trade with Boston he takes Boston off his list  lol

Hurts doesn't strike me as that kind of pain in the ass.

I think it's OK to be skeptical of what Jalen Hurts truly is.  We all hope that 2022 Jalen Hurts is what to expect from here on out but like you said, it's only been one year of great play.  Jalen proved himself to everyone last year.  It was an incredible season.  I don't doubt for one bit that he won't put in the work to improve and consistently be a top QB, but it's time to show that he is.

Now that he's getting paid a billion dollars, we need to address running back and he needs to stop hanging onto it as much as he does. If Gainwell sucks and Penny goes down, which he will, I don't want Hurts to be a multi million dollar battering ram.

Reports are only $110 million guaranteed at signing and $126.5 million by year 2 is guaranteed. Interesting...

Hurts has proven he's an elite QB but it may be dependent on surrounding him with elite talent on offense.  The likely future impact of this deal will be a large discrepancy of payroll on offense, vs payroll on defense.
