More rumblings the Texans will pass on QB at 2.

According to Lance, they're trying to trade out of 2 but are struggling.

The no-trade isn't a big deal.  It's not like if the Eagles are trying to trade him he will want to stay.

They did get a discount.  That's only a 5 year deal.  That could have been a deal that would have paid him until he was 35 and we would have been stuck with an aging QB.

But this isn't baseball or hockey. I don't see the advantage of throwing that in when he didn't give them a big deal to stay. What if he does pull a Wentz or takes a bad hit and isn't the same? It gives the player all the power and I don't like that.

Texans would be wise to trade the #2 pick while on the clock.  If the Panthers are dumb enough to draft Bryce Young #1 (I'm dubious, as Schefter is an ESPN employee, and the network wants intrigue to increase viewers) then the Texans should draft Stroud #2.

If the Panthers do the right thing and draft Stroud, then the choice becomes draft Will Anderson at #2 or trade out.

Allen got a 6 year deal. That's not much longer and was six years at $258 million. That's not a deal to stay with the Eagles. We can argue who is a better QB all day long, but Hurts isn't $51/year better than Allen at $43/year.

How do you know the 'no trade' was Hurts' idea?

AJ Brown said "If you trade Jalen, trade me, too."

Howie said "I'm not trading Jalen, and here's proof."

Also, don't read too much into the no trade, I tell you that this is mostly a gimic.  With a $250 million contract, it'd be hard to trade him if he went downhill.  Nobody wants to pay $40+ million annually to a player that's not performing well.

That's ridiculous. Howie wouldn't give up power like that to appease a WR. You know it came from his agent. Wentz proves your last point otherwise because Howie was able to get a deal done. But the bottom line is Allen is getting 43 while hurts is getting 51. That's not a deal to stay any way you cut it.

Yes, but Allen has a contract to play through his age 32 season.  Jalen has a contract to play through his age 30 season.  This is a big deal for a mobile QB.

Yeah, it's better they gave him a 5 year extension vs 6 with Allen having another year because he was a first round pick, but still. 2 years difference is worth a no trade? That's not a good move. If he plays well it's not a big deal. I just don't like it.

Bet Howie’s analytics guys know this well (knowing what Median defines as mathematically):

It doesn't make sense to me.  Maybe they're just trying to get the Colts to trade up with them for an exhorbitant price because they don't have a strong preference between Stroud, Richardson and Levis.  Maybe they think Stroud is a bottom of round 1 talent.  I can see where passing on Richardson or Levis makes sense at pick 2.

Why would he give them a deal? What QB even does that? They want to get paid

The no trade is nothing to worry about, IMO. God forbid Jalen gets hurt in year 2 or 3, and maybe a late draft pick like Dorian Thompson-Robinson takes over by storm. It’s going to take some type of scenario for the Eagles front office to want to move on. Hurts isn’t going to want to stay here if we don’t want him as the starter…

The no trade clause just means he has a say in the new team if both parties decide to part ways… we may lose a little trade value, but we wouldn’t be "stuck with him”.

When's the last time a franchise QB was traded to a team he didn't want to go to, though?  Probably Jared Goff, and the Rams had to throw in an extra first round draft pick just to get the Lions to take him.  I don't think there is a mechanism to trade a QB on a mega contract right now anyway.

It must be hard not knowing how much lotion to get before the draft.

Howie’s reputation amongst agents is he always wants something in return. Wonder what he bargained for with the no trade clause?  You can bet he got something for that.

Sure looking like the Lions got the better part of that deal.

Or they know they will suck even with a QB and Maye and Williams are better than any prospect this year

Extra term I would guess.  The player likely wants a 3 or 4 year deal to hit the market again sooner with the cap rising.  Howie got that 5th year in exchange for something.

We don't know how it is structured. That's one thing.

He won't be the highest paid player in the league for long. That's another.

If you think he's that good and is committed to the team, why would you worry about a no-trade clause? Don't you want the guy to be your QB for a long time? That's another.

It's the going rate.

Right, because Howie has no idea how to manage the cap, and while the current QB took the Birds to the SB, they lost, and they only have 2 first round draft picks this year and a boatload next year, and 3 potentially very good players who were drafted last year had largely red shirt years and will now take the field. Doomed! Doomed! Doomed!

Sarcasm, son

Goff would be a good one. Generally, teams looking for a QB with issues aren't the best situations for them to go to.
