I just went back and watched some Lukas Van Ness tape again.  Man, I hope he's not the pick.  Doesn't even look like the best DL on his own DL.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Some schools are starting to get it.  Less gimmicks, more basic and traditional.  Time and time again, teams/brands try to do way too much with a uniform.  I didn't mind the Maryland flag helmets, but I love their old school Terps uniforms.

Let's see what Nike does with the Cardinals this Thursday.

This helped me a little bit just in case he is the selection

I could be completely wrong on this, but the timing of this Jalen hurts contract coming out and getting done before the draft Feels like there’s another shoe that could drop. That they wanted to get everything in order going into the draft in case there’s a player on draft night that might become available. similar to what they did with AJ Brown last year.

I really don't get the complaints about Hurts' getting overpaid or not taking a discount. Kyler Murray signed a 5 year extension last offseason: $230.5 million with $160 million guaranteed. The salary cap from 2022 to 2023 went up by ~8%, from $208.2 million to $224.8 million. So if Hurts got the same deal adjusted for inflation, it would have been $248.9 million and $172.8 million in guarantees.

~$7mm more in guarantees and total value for Hurts vs. Murray is a steal, especially since the Cardinals could have used the 5th year option on Murray. Once you account for that, you can argue Hurts took less.

Discount part is silly. It's Hurts first time making real money and it's the NFL, he may only get one chance at it. He got his bag. Maybe he'll take a discount later on if he gets another bite at the apple, maybe he won't, but no one should be taking discounts on their first real contract.

As far as the overpay aspect. It is what it is. I think QB's are getting overpaid, but if that's the going value, there's not much you can do about it. I always though Murray was overpaid and it doesn't help that he's stunk ever since. Now, it's up to Hurts to live up to that $$ as best he can.

Expecting him to take a discount vs not taking a discount and getting a NTC are two different things. We agree QBs are overpaid. That's not his fault.

The no trade clause is a meaningless give by the Eagles for 2 reasons: 1) his cap hit will make him untradeable for 3 years and 2) no team would trade for a QB with this kind of contract if that player didn't want to go there. Basically, all franchise QBs effectively have no trade clauses anyway.

I thought FSU did a nice job with their updates than most. That said, FSU IMO had a top two college uniform in the 80s/90s, right there with Michigan.

I think they just wanted to get ahead of Burrow and Herbert

FSU in the 90s is one of my favorite of all time.  If you asked me to draw what a college LB should look like, I'm going straight to Derrick Brooks and Marvin Jones.

Yup. Marvin Jones had an elite aesthetic.

It's not sexy but if the Eagles got Carter and Torrence in round 1, I think that's a pretty big win.

I'd be over the moon with that.

Or they know they will suck even with a QB and Maye and Williams are better than any prospect this year

That's possible too.

I think that shoe is a Burrow, Herbert, and a potential Jackson contract getting signed this off season. Burrow will probably be pushing $55mm APY and Herbert is going to be right around Hurts in the $50-$53mm APY. The FO has generally signed players a year early to get them locked in at a better rate. The thing with QBs is their market gets reset just about every year, so the earlier you can get them extended the better in the long run.

I saw some post earlier that said there would be no additional cap hit this year with the Hurts signing. If that's true, it shouldn't have any impact on making another draft day splash signing.

Sorry if already posted. I haven’t had time to read through the Blog today.

There's now a real chance a QB falls to 10. Please trade out Howie and pick up another 2024 1st!

Agree in putting as many pieces around Hurts as possible but I think the way they do that is through the draft.  This year, we are seeing the roadmap of what they want to do on defense.  Bargain shop on defense and gamble on guys who have been injured/haven't panned out yet.  The Eagles don't value LB/S that much is clear.  They also suck at drafting those positions.  Either sign/trade for guys on affordable deals.

Now you draft on offense.  Add studs at positions they do value.  WR/TE.

That is the logic that could make Darnell Washington a dark horse possibility for the Eagles in the second round. Just as good a blocker as Jack Stoll and the potential to be a pass catcher of the same caliber as Joe Dirt.

To me the NTC is a very good win/win agreement.  The downside to the clause is minimal given the impracticality of a trade.  I don't think the team got some discount for offering it but it is a good will gesture to the player without any real risk.

If that happens the Eagles are in a pretty good spot with Tennessee, Texans (again if they pass with #2), and the Jets (with no Rodgers) right after the Eagles, as teams with a high potential to draft a QB. If Richardson/Levis falls, Eagles could get a decent haul.

That's fine, but I still don't like them giving that to him because I don't see any benefit on their end coming via the final numbers. Also, I don't want the NFL to turn into the NHL/MLB.

Looking further back there are wildcards like Washington, Detroit, Tampa, Minnesota that could be a potential trade back partner as well.

If you had to choose between giving Hurts the extension he got and drafting Anthony Richardson or Will Levis, what would your choice be?

False equivalency.  Swapping Hurts and Fields and getting 2 or 3 Firsts and 2 Seconds is a better choice.
