I could be completely wrong on this, but the timing of this Jalen hurts contract coming out and getting done before the draft Feels like there’s another shoe that could drop. That they wanted to get everything in order going into the draft in case there’s a player on draft night that might become available. similar to what they did with AJ Brown last year.

Kind of what I was alluding to earlier with none of Hurts contract effecting 2023.  The Eagles still have $16 million in cap space.  Below is an article from Kempski last year going over the rookie pool needed.  Bottom line is only $3.2 million was needed last year to sign the draft class.  If they use both 1st rounders this year, it might be more but the Eagles are looking to still have around $12 million once the draft class signs.  That's a significant amount of cash left to make a move for a young veteran.

We'll also use this page as something of a rookie signing tracker, checking off each player who has signed, as it happens.

Player  2022  2023  2024  2025
Jordan Davis ✔ $3,515,766 $4,394,708 $5,273,650 $6,152,592
 Cam Jurgens ✔  $1,352,592   $1,690,740   $2,028,888   $2,367,036
 Nakobe Dean ✔ $989,067  $1,236,334  $1,483,601   $1,730,868
 Kyron Johnson ✔ $766,784  $931,784  $1,046,784  $1,161,784
 Grant Calcaterra ✔ $756,251  $921,251  $1,036,251  $1,151,251

During the 2025 offseason, the Eagles will also have the opportunity to exercise a fifth-year option on Davis for the 2026 season.

Only nerds should bother reading further 🤓

If you add up all the money in the "2022" column, the total estimated rookie pool for the Eagles' draft class is $7,380,460. So will they need roughly $7.4 million in cap space to sign all their rookies? Nah, it doesn't quite work that that. Because the NFL only counts the top 51 earning players on the roster toward the salary cap, only Davis, Jurgens, and Dean will replace players above the "top 51" line of demarcation, so to speak.

As you'll see on OverTheCap's Eagles page, there are a bunch of players at the back end of the top 51 who will count for just under $900,000 against the cap this year. In other words, you would add up the cap numbers for Davis, Jurgens, and Dean, and subtract the cap numbers of the three players just above the 51-man demarcation. That number gives you the extra cap space the Eagles would need to sign their entire slate of draft picks.

I'll save you the work. It's $3,236,008. The Eagles currently have a little over $14 million in cap space, according to the NFLPA public daily salary cap report, so they have more than enough room to sign all of their rookie draft picks without clearing further cap space.

I think that shoe is a Burrow, Herbert, and a potential Jackson contract getting signed this off season. Burrow will probably be pushing $55mm APY and Herbert is going to be right around Hurts in the $50-$53mm APY. The FO has generally signed players a year early to get them locked in at a better rate. The thing with QBs is their market gets reset just about every year, so the earlier you can get them extended the better in the long run.

I saw some post earlier that said there would be no additional cap hit this year with the Hurts signing. If that's true, it shouldn't have any impact on making another draft day splash signing.

Cincinnati could get ugly with Burrow. Mike Brown might be too cheap to shell out that big of a contract.

More rumblings the Texans will pass on QB at 2.

It's been obvious they would at least consider someone other a QB there. The constant mock drafting of the top 3 made no sense; other shoes were always going to fall

Most Texans fans I hear call into NFL Radio (yes, there are some) have zero interest in taking QB at #2.  They have many other needs, and none of these QBs are capable of succeeding without a good roster around them.

I really don't get the complaints about Hurts' getting overpaid or not taking a discount. Kyler Murray signed a 5 year extension last offseason: $230.5 million with $160 million guaranteed. The salary cap from 2022 to 2023 went up by ~8%, from $208.2 million to $224.8 million. So if Hurts got the same deal adjusted for inflation, it would have been $248.9 million and $172.8 million in guarantees.

~$7mm more in guarantees and total value for Hurts vs. Murray is a steal, especially since the Cardinals could have used the 5th year option on Murray. Once you account for that, you can argue Hurts took less.

Had to be done

but if you make that argument why not just have Hurts play on the last yr of his rookie deal?

I agree with both of them that he's quite a bit better as a DE.  He doesn't appear to make any impact at all inside.

That roster is such a dumpster fire, a QB won't do squat to make improve things. Better to keep Mills and tank, especially if Nick Caserio goes back to NE as rumoured; the new GM can work out what they want to do

I still see a 5T

so unless he is JJ Watt i cant spend 10 on him

Idaho has that issue at the moment. Most people in the Boise area travel to this crappy little town called Ontario in Oregon. Population of only 11,000 people, and 31,000 in entire county, yet the county Ontario is in is the second highest earning county in weed revenue in all of Oregon with over $100 million in revenue last year. That’s all because they’re an hour drive from the Boise area. It’s where I go, usually takes me less than 2 hours round trip since I’m a bit closer.

Idaho is literally surrounded by all legal states, all idaho citizens are going to these other states & it bothers me so much. I wish people would lose the stigma behind it, realize marijuana is really not that bad, and recognize how much money we are essentially handing other states because we’re so behind in the times

I still remember back when we were living in CO and it first was legalized that on the Kansas-CO boarder on I-70 there was always a TON of troopers pulling over cars with Kansas plates coming back into the state.  We never got pulled over because we had CO plates on our cop car Ford Explorer:lol:

Reuben Frank is choking on Hurts D today.  Slow it down there turkey neck.

He’s part quarterback legend, part wise old philosopher, part unquestioned locker room leader, part franchise savior.

Houston's in a real tough spot if they're not into taking a QB at 2.  The hype on Anderson seems to be cooling, and if they're not taking him or a QB there I'm not sure who would be worth the pick.

They might get fleeced in a trade down.  Especially if teams know they don't want a QB and Arizona is sitting there at 3 perfectly willing to trade back.

Lol that’s so funny because it was the same thing when Oregon first legalized it also. I still get a tiny bit nervous every time I cross the border back into idaho 😂

Marijuana is fully legalized here, and you'd think there's a huge outbreak in the skunk population.  That stuff stinks, in more ways than one.

Not all of them. But he most important one. Is he good enough to win a super bowl with? Yes, I think he proved that even though we didnt win.

He played well enough to win a Super Bowl and well enough to win 14 of 15 games.   He obviously is not perfect in every aspect but that's a very strong positive. The biggest remaining question is can he repeat that performance.

3 rounder because I'm poor and can't afford to upgrade to 7 round mock drafts
