Schefter sounds like he doesn't think a QB will go 2 or 3 now. Not great for the Eagles.

As long as Skoronski goes before us then good

And we already know Irsay is taking one

I’m coming around to the alternative scenario. If I had to bet money right now, Lamar Jackson is an Indianapolis Colt week 1. That dude is so dug in, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see Baltimore trade up for a QB

Howie is pretty good at projecting how the board will fall though. I trust him to know what he has to do to get the player he wants heading into the draft.

And also, if teams aren't trying to trade up to 2 or 3 for a QB and those teams are trying to trade down, it could suggest the price is much lower to move up than is typically the case. Which could make an Eagles move up doable.

The more I think about it, the more I think there are two QB moves that could help the Eagles A LOT.

-The Texans take Will Anderson at #2 knowing that one of Levis, Stroud, Richardson make it to pick 10.  The Texans then trade up to 10, leapfrogging a QB needy division rival (Titans), and take the remaining QB.  The Eagles traded up from 12 to 10 to get DeVonta by giving up pick 84.  The Texans have pick 65 and 73 as well as 3 6th round picks (188, 201, 203).  Maybe the Eagles can get pick 12 and 73 plus have them throw in one of their 6th round picks for pick 10.  Not a huge haul but an extra 3rd gives them more ammo for TE2, RB, OL, LB.

-Hendon Hooker makes it to pick 30 and the Vikings desperately need a QB.  The Vikings don't have a 2nd round pick to sacrifice so the Eagles take pick 119 and a 2024 1st to move out of 30.

These scenarios give the Eagles pick 12, 73, 119, 201 and a 2024 1st.  Would you do that?

Could be good for them if one of the top four is available at 10 and someone wants to trade up. Let's say carolina, the Colts and the falcons take a qb. Tennessee, the pats, the texans, Washington and the bucs all need a qb to varying degrees. Could be really good for us.

I also wouldn’t rule out the lions taking cj stroud if he falls. There’s been reports if a Qb they love fell to 6 they would consider drafting the QB. Also seattle taking a Qb isn’t out of the question. as geno is 33 and not their long term answer. Raiders are also a wild card in this too.

I still think given the Eagles pick at 10 and Howie views that as a spot they hopefully won't be picking that high again any time soon(or something went horribly wrong) I can't see him just taking this as a luxury pick and winding up with a guy they aren't thrilled about with that pick. I think they are going to try to either get a player they love using that pick(whether they fall to 10 or trade up) or try to use it to acquire a future 1st.

Picking that high and winding up with a player they just "like" would feel very unlike Howie. I think they want to use the pick to get a blue chip player for the future or use it to set up their future with more picks.

So if it isn't Anderson or Carter, I think it comes down to: do they view Nolan Smith, Paris Johnson, etc "can't-miss" guys. Because if not, I think they try like hell to trade down for someone's 2024 1st.

It's OK to be excited about Hurts being locked up but also feel a bit apprehensive at the same time.

I’ll be interested in the real details of the contract, but we already know that less than 50 percent of it is real guaranteed money (a sizable amount of the leaked guarantee is for injury only). Having him under contract for the next six years is a benefit to the Eagles if he continues his high level play. By not accepting a shorter three-year extension and cashing in again when the cap goes up, we have him under control for the rest of his athletic prime. And if he regresses, the structure of the guarantees won’t make it impossible to cut bait. I would not expect Hurts to be a QB who ages gracefully into his 30s. So much of what makes him good is his threat with his legs. So starting in 2026 we can start looking for his potential replacement.

1. Carolina- Bryce Young

2. Houston- Will Anderson

3. Arizona- Jalen Carter

4. Indianapolis- CJ Stroud

5. Seattle- Christian Gonzalez

6. Detroit- Devon Witherspoon

7. Las Vegas- Anthony Richardson

8. Atlanta- Tyree Wilson

9. Chicago- Peter Skoronoski

10. Houston-  Will Levis (trade pick 12, 73 and 201 to the Eagles)

Not too bad.

I’ve seen Stroud comped as a more athletic Jared Goff. That’s actually a pretty good QB and a nice fit for the offense they play. They absolutely should be in the QB market.

I’d try and move back again to the late teens/20’s and we still probably have a shot at Nolan smith

Yep. Would be interested in seeing the dead cap after year 4.

As long as the deal allows us to keep Smith & Dickerson I'm ok with it.

There's now a real chance a QB falls to 10. Please trade out Howie and pick up another 2024 1st!

I'd be on board with that. Maybe grab a day three pick or two this year as well. We can throw a pick or two back next year since we should have a minimum of 11.

Yup, 2027 is when howie gets exposed. Mark your calendars.

OT - Does Daniel Jones have a lazy eye?

Yea, the teens are where the meat of the value of this 1st round class really lies.  None of them are worth it at 10.  Once you get to 15-20 is where a lot of these players look A LOT more attractive.

If those cap numbers through 2026 are accurate, the dead cap after year 4 will be much higher than I’d like.  I actually prefer the Eagles push the cap a bit forward on his deal, or at least make it level through the life of it.  A mobile QB who takes a lot of hits might not age very well, like you said.

Being left with a $50M+ cap hit on a QB who is beaten up is not optimal

My suspicion about the consequences of this deal....moving forward (and after the players we have already lost), we can pretty much keep everyone, but we aren't going to be able to go get anyone besides bargain basemen FA's for the next 4 years.

That's *fine*, but that's also how Howie has consistently built winners over the years...FA signings and trade and signs.  Those are going to be off the table now.  It's all draft.

This is why they need a RB in this draft. Even if it's a round 2-3 guy. I also see they still have a healthy amount of money under that cap, I wonder if they have their eyes on a few guys.

Josh Jacobs?

Hurts will be restructed re-extended before 2026 anyway.

Yup. Long contracts like that are built to be restructured. Howie has been putting new mechanisms in his deal to convert roster bonuses into signing bonuses without the player's permission too.
