I’m only OK with taking a guard if he has Shawn Andrews type upside with none of the baggage. That is, a player with no weakness.

He needs to have unique traits. Overwhelming size and power coupled with dancing bear movement skills.

I do NOT want a high floor low ceiling guard. We have the best OL coach the NFL has seen in a generation. There is no need to take safe, limited players at OL. I have every faith in the world that Stoutland can conjure a pro bowl level guard out of a mid round pick with some athleticism. So why burn the most valuable draft asset we are likely to have over the next 5 years on a guy who won’t be much better than we could get out of a 4th or 5th round pick? It doesn’t make sense to me.

If a SPECIAL guard prospect was available, sure, but Skoronski is the opposite of a special prospect. He’s an ordinary athlete who is already very refined.

I do worry he is an Iowa type that already is what he is…

but at the same time if you can get a stud RG you now have youth and talent in 4/5 of the OL and the beat RT in the game.

Hurts needs that OL to be successful. So invest in it. Personally i like Wright better for the future tackle role

Paris Johnson Jr. has 36 1/8 arms and put up 29 reps on the bench... very impressive

If they manage to win another ring Howie can retire and leave that mess for the next guy

I can see him saying, off to Bali for 2 years, see ya. Then coming back when the mess has been sorted,,, What did I miss chaps?

With Howie's propensity for draft day surprises, the opportunity to get 39 and Brian Burns for 10 from the Panthers was too good to pass up. Burns is far move valuable to our team than anyone on the board at that spot.

Would do that trade without hesitation

I don’t see us trading for any disgruntled vets with huge cap numbers. That’s a luxury for teams that don’t carry qb deals.

Same.

Yes, Jalen's deal would reduce the probability of this for sure but still cool to mock.

Hurts cap hit this year is $6m - which is about $1.5 more than what it was before the extension. His cap hit next year is only $13.56 million.

They could absolutely take on player like Burns.

Even if Hurts is not a top 5 QB, that money is fine for a top 10 QB.

Yep. Howie shaped this contract so the Eagles can remain flexible if the right opportunity presents itself. Hurts’ contract doesn’t really become an impediment until 2027. That’s why talk of sitting out FA and only re-signing our own players for the next four years is really premature.

Until 2027 anyway. At that point we might be setting up another reset.

We have more obvious needs but man the meltdown if we got Bijan Robinson would be awesome.  Our offense would be absolutely devastating but we desperately need defense.

Good enough for me:

Love both selections actually

I would absolutely hate drafting Robinson at 10, but it would be fun to watch him on Sundays.

I know the Cardinals franchise is trash but at least they're trying.  Check out the trade that was offered to me

Went a little heavy on the trades on this one

If Hurts is an elite qb in 2027, I suppose the plan will be to give him a huge backloaded extension, bring down that 2027 cap number, and blow it up at the end of that extension.  If Hurts ages quickly and struggles by 2027, then they take their penicillin that year and blow it up.  But I suppose the strategy is to defer the massive cap hit until the year they decide to blow up the team and reset.

Did you counter for them to throw in an extra pick next year?

Yep. All while maintaining flexibility to build around him now. The cap will go up, but the medicine will still be hard to swallow. But overall it’s a solid strategy for a win-now team. Howie needs to hit on some picks to keep the roster viable, especially on defense. There’s very little proven talent on that side, and no foundational players to speak of yet.

I think taking on another monster long term deal would be really tough while hoping to re-sign DeVonta & Dickerson.   I think the FA signings are more likely to be 1-yr deals or maybe 2 for some decent money.  For example if the draft falls in a way the Eagles don't get a DE I can still see Howie kicking tires on Yannick

Well, let's just hope this doesn't turn into another Wentz situation where the contract was given and then the play regressed.

Can play tackle or guard and dominated at right tackle for the Vols in 2022 earning first-team All-SEC honors … Concluded his career without allowing a sack in 19 consecutive games ... Played in 47 games and made 42 starts – 27 at right tackle, two at right guard and 13 at left tackle

^^^ Darnell Wright...  Just realized he ran the 40 at same time (5:01) as Paris Johnson Jr. and just a scootch slower than Broderick Jones 4.97 while being 22 pounds heavier

Yeah some of us are already banging the drum for Darnell Wright, he's also Daniel Jeremiah's second ranked OT after Skoronski.

I do think we can afford to take a back up Tackle later in the draft, but if we are taking one in the 1st, then a small trade down to 13-15 to take Wright would be fine with me.

With Hurts in place for many seasons, and he has the tendency to run with the ball, it is important to have a RG to open running lanes and at the 2nd level.  It won't be a surprise if the team loads up a few Gs in the draft and UDFAs.  Agree that using #10 on a G or G/T teener is not a smart move.  Mid to late rounds would be more appropriate. Yes, we have Stoutland to turn some unknown players into NFL starters.  Go for a premier player at OT, DL or CB with the #10 pick.  A pick that high we don't have all the time and not likely to have for the next several years.
