Kempski (your fav) talked about the Marcus Smith draft being a sort of watershed moment for Howie.  They were sitting at 22 with 6 picks ahead of them and 6 players they liked.  They just planned to sit and let the BPA fall to them.  Then they were all gone.  Since that time Howie has pretty aggressively traded up when there was a player he liked.  I think there's a good chance that he trades up in this draft. The Colts at 4 could be a good bet if QBs go in the top 3.  They could get the 4th QB at 10 as long as the other teams do not trade back.

That doesn't make sense IMO.  They had 22 and then traded down to 26.  And unless my memory is mistaken (quite possibly), that was a draft day trade when the Eagles were on the clock at 22.

The Eagles are not taking Robinson, it's insane people actually think it's a possibility.

I hope they're not taking him at 10.  I can't imagine that is how they value the position but allegedly they did consider picking CMC in the first. Also, it's possible at pick 10 they have one player with a first round grade and every other player is 2nd to 3rd round in the draft.  They cannot find a deal they like to trade down and then they pick him.  It's not ideal and a waste of a pick but maybe less of a waste than a player that's not good. I don't believe that they would go into the draft with a goal to come away with him at pick 10.  I imagine they have eyes on Anderson, Carter and Gonzalez.

That's what he means. They had a bunch of guys like Cooks and Clinton-Dix and instead of trading up for one of them, they sat at 22 and were going to take who was left, but every guy they liked was taken so when it was them on the clock at 22 they traded back to 26 and then just panicked.

I like him as a late-round dart throw at LB. The Niners brought him in as a top-30 visit, and that’s good enough for me.

Ah, gotcha.  I see where I misread it.  I was thinking the actual pick used for Marcus Smith, not 22.  but he clearly stated 22.

They were on the clock at 22 and the 6 prior picks included Shazier, Zack Martin, CJ Mosely, Calvin Pryor, JuWuan James, Clinton-Dix and Brandin Cooks.  Once Clinton-Dix went off the board, they traded back and it was seen as kind of a panicked trade. When they picked at 26 they went with Smith probably for positional value over a BPA analysis.  Smith was seen as a reach and a sort of panic pick because the board did not fall the way they expected.

There was a BGN article on it after the draft:

What we didn't know until now, however, is the story of other teams vying for pick No. 22. The MMQB's Peter King released an interesting column on this topic. Read the entire story here. These are the highlights:

The Eagles, who held the 22nd pick in the draft, informed teams after several players they loved at 22 were snatched—LSU wideout Odell Beckham, who went 12th to the Giants, and Virginia Tech cornerback Kyle Fuller, who went 14th to Chicago, among others—that they were auctioning the choice.

This kind of fits with what Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman had to say last week when he mentioned the Eagles were targeting six players at No. 22. By the time their pick was due, all of those six players were gone. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2014/5/13/5713388/nfl-draft-2014-eagles-trade-pick-no-22-browns-vikings

How do you feel about Blake Freeland for third tackle? Seems like he would be a good prospect in the 3rd with a ton of upside.

There are a ton of Dline players at the end of the 1st and 2nd round that I like as much as the 1st round guys not named Will Anderson.

Yes, he would be an excellent project. He will NOT be ready in 2023 in any capacity, however. He needs a full year of nutritional construction and weight training. He's got to hulk up. Given that, I think he can be a decent to good tackle, possibly even very good. If we could draft him and Cody Mauch I think Stoutland would have everything covered and we would have our next LG - in 2024 and RT - in 2025. Mauch and Driscoll could hold the fort if one of our tackles gets dinged.

This mock rocks!

Whoa.

If you're a real stud, why would you bother with the NBA Draft Combine? Screw the draft. You're a free agent and teams can bid for you. I think the NBA is in for some unintended consequences with this.

Not sure if some of the prospects would last to those spots, but it's in the ballpark of reasonableness.

If we even draft half of those players, I'll be overjoyed lol

This would be my philosophy heading into THIS draft...

Van Ness / Murphy / Nolan Smith:

Paris Johnson / Jones / Skoronski

Witherspoon

7 names.  Good chance all 7, or at least 5-6 of them, are on the board at 10.  Anyone you like better is off the board already.

1. Do you like any of them enough to use #10 overall?

2. When 5-6 of them are on the board, do you have them all graded comparably to trade down 5-8 spots and just pick who is there after the trade down?

3.  If you have them all graded comparably, what is it worth to still have your pick of the group?  How much would it take to slide down and have it dictated to us?

Surprised the Steelers would even bother when they can draft WRs better than anyone else.

What a terrible move for the Steelers, geez

Robinson isn’t worth $5M at this point.

So the Eagles started with 22.  They turned 22 into 26 and 83.  They turned 83 into 101 and 141 with a Texans trade.

So they turned 22 into Marcus Smith, Jaylen Watkins, and Taylor Hart.

The Browns turned 26 and 83 into Johnny Football.

The Texans turned 101 and 141 into 83, which was DT Louis Nix, who essentially never played.

All 3 teams should have just forfeited their draft picks and gone golfing together.  Talk about a bunch of shuffling and conversations for nothing.

This is some ice cold water when we get too excited about Howie Roseman.

Lol.

Gotta be honest I don’t really want Baker. Not at that money. The only safety I’d pay that kinda dough is a safety of Ed Reed’s caliber

Agreed there. Definitely not at what he is getting or wants.

It's not that bad a move.  Claypool is gone, Pickens is a headcase apparently and for whatever reason they've soured on Diontae Johnson.

$5 million isn't that much for what Robinson's ceiling could be and they're dropping back 17 picks in the last round.  Almost getting him for free.

You have made my argument for me,  Toast hates on style.  It isn’t about the person playing the style.  It is not personal.

it is virtually identical to the broadly held hate here for a selection of Bijan Robinson at #10.  No one hates Bijan personally.  They hate the whole idea of taking any RB at #10. It is not personal.

Hate is a very personal emotion.

Point well taken. Not so sure about your assumptions though. 😉
