Funny you mention him. I’m at home with a sick kid so I was watching draft prospects and stumbled across the Eagles-Cowboys 4th and a foot game. Watching Taylor stifle Irvin was so fun and reminded me of how excited I was when we draft him.

So many underrated Eagles on that defense too. William Fuller was a helluva pickup, as was Greg Jackson.

One of my alltime favorite eagles plays was an extremely subtle one in the playoffs in 2002(maybe 2003?). We were playing the Vikings and Bobby was on Moss. I remember wondering why we didn’t put the faster all pro CB on him, but Moss ran a hitch route and cut inside, waiting for the ball when Bobby was stuck on the wrong side of him. Bobby then reached around Moss without touching him and swatting the ball out of his basket. At that moment I realized we were gonna whoop these jokers asses.

And we did.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

But do the bigger DE's Miles Murphy or Lukas Van Ness really get you excited at 10?  Murphy wasn't that great last year but there are rumors he might have been injures. On tape, you just  don't see the freak athlete that everyone says he is.

Van Ness is a one trick pony with only a bull rush and not much else.

Given the choice between those 2 and Smith, I am taking Smith every day of the week and twice on Sunday because not only has he been the better all around player but offers the most upside.

Nope, the DEs don’t get me overly excited. I like the CBs better.  Basically barring an Anderson, Carter, Gonzales or Johnson slide, I would favor a trade down at 10, especially if there are QBs coveted and available.  I would be perfectly happy with Porter, Wright, Ringo or Murphy as later picks for example. I would love to see the Eagles come out of the draft with a G/T, a Graham replacement for next year, a DB, an ILB, a RB to challenge Sermon and provide Penny insurance, and WR depth.  Any combination of post comp draft pick compensation date free agents, draft choices and UDFAs that accomplish this is fine with me.  Just no Howie WTF moves.

I’m not from the area and have never heard it

Just a bunch of Hoagie Mouths or really old guys who want to run the ball 80% of the time and have no idea whose on the team.

Kempski (your fav) talked about the Marcus Smith draft being a sort of watershed moment for Howie.  They were sitting at 22 with 6 picks ahead of them and 6 players they liked.  They just planned to sit and let the BPA fall to them.  Then they were all gone.  Since that time Howie has pretty aggressively traded up when there was a player he liked.  I think there's a good chance that he trades up in this draft. The Colts at 4 could be a good bet if QBs go in the top 3.  They could get the 4th QB at 10 as long as the other teams do not trade back.

Kempski would struggle posting in here (although I do like his college players to watch columns despite having a huge miss on the Eagles aspect).  The thing with this draft is outside of Carter, I really don’t see a trade up player.

Watching Tennessee’s Byron Young, and he’s be a pretty exciting prospect if he wasn’t approaching 25. Maybe this is weird, but it somehow made me more excited about Nolan Smith. They have similar testing and size, but Young looks a bit more rocked up. He seems to have a better pass rush plan than Smith, although some of that could be Georgia’s scheme. Young’s athleticism pops off the screen. Makes me wonder what Smith would look like if he was allowed to pin his ears back more.

The really important question is how far can we trade down from #30 and still get Drew Sanders?

I lost a lot of interest when Ji-Ayir Brown a 4.65 combine because it seems like we have enough limitations at safety with Edmunds and Blankenship, and Brown might not have enough range to play deep. I was reading Brugler’s report on him and despite the slow 40 time he has the same 10- and 20-yard split as Brian Branch. It kind of reminds me of when Jordan Fuller fell in the draft. He ran a slow 40, but his GPS tracking suggested good football speed. Brown doesn’t look slow, so maybe his GPS data paints a different picture. He looks like a good interchangeable safety prospect.

yeah Ive been feeling really torn cause I still kinda want him.

Also, Auburn’s Derick Hall would be a nice second round pick. He isn’t overly twitched up, but he can win in multiple ways and has a nice motor. Seems like a guy who could eventually get you 8 sacks.

It's not that bad a move.  Claypool is gone, Pickens is a headcase apparently and for whatever reason they've soured on Diontae Johnson.

$5 million isn't that much for what Robinson's ceiling could be and they're dropping back 17 picks in the last round.  Almost getting him for free.

Has Pickens done something since entering the league to be a headcase?  I haven't heard any reports.  I know he's definitely a unique guy but hadn't read anything on him being a problem yet.

Ronnie Dixon, Kurt Gouveia and Mike Zordich too.

Best WR on the team showing emotion and getting upset by lack of touches for a small stretch?  Not sure I'd call that a big issue, we had to deal with AJ Brown a bit here too.  He certainly needs to be kept in check but I don't see any reason for them to be terribly concerned...yet.

I think Anderson and Carter are the 2 potential trade up targets.

So the Eagles started with 22.  They turned 22 into 26 and 83.  They turned 83 into 101 and 141 with a Texans trade.

So they turned 22 into Marcus Smith, Jaylen Watkins, and Taylor Hart.

The Browns turned 26 and 83 into Johnny Football.

The Texans turned 101 and 141 into 83, which was DT Louis Nix, who essentially never played.

All 3 teams should have just forfeited their draft picks and gone golfing together.  Talk about a bunch of shuffling and conversations for nothing.

Howie did get fired by Chip after that draft.

My friends don’t understand positional value! One is a Giants fan who loved the Barkley pick.

I am shocked that a Giants fan is dumb.

A rookie getting upset by lack of touches and freaking out when you're winning though?  That's a little more than just being a diva.

It's weird to me that they still haven't diagnosed what happened to Hamlin. Some doctors have speculated that it was commotio cordis but there has never been any confirmation of that. You would think if that was the cause, there would be a huge to do about the gear Hamlin might wear, or what precautions could be taken so it doesn't happen again. Let's protect every person playing football so this never happens again. Instead, it sounds like it's being handled more like he tore his ACL and he was just cleared to play.

Hamlin himself, doesn't want to discuss what the doctors said. It's strange and people are going to continue to question what caused him to go in to cardiac arrest on a football field.  At least one thing can be put to bed and that's the silly thought that he was cloned or is AI...although I'm sure some looney bin people out there still think that.

I don’t agree that either Skoronski or Johnson or Jones would be the Day One starter at RG.  You do that and Jurgens sits on the bench for a second year.  That is less desirable than having the #10 pick have a red shirt year.

I couldn't disagree more. Jurgens is a C who was drafted to replace Kelce. Not only that, I would much rather have a 2nd round pick sit for two years than a top 10 pick sit at all. That's just me. Regardless, it doesn't matter what you or I think, it matters what the Eagles think and we will get the answers to those questions in about a week.

First I had seen that, couldn't find it anywhere.  Thanks for sharing.

I still wonder if he'll wear any special pads or anything, or if any company will try to alter the way shoulder pads are made.

I don't think the episode causes any permanent or structural damage to the heart.  If it doesn't, then there really isn't any benefit to modifying his equipment.  It was a freak incident that happens to about two dozen people per year.
