I'm just rooting for a trade down next week. This is a weak draft, and we're short on picks. Would love to get a 2024 1st, and really own the 2024 draft. IMO, there isn't a big difference between prospects 10-25 in this class.

I couldn't agree more. I just don't think the value is there for a DL at 10 short of Carter or Wilson falling. There are some things to really like about guys like Smith, Murphy, Van Ness, but too many question marks to like at 10 in my opinion. I would be fine with Skoronski or Johnson at 10 but I would prefer to trade down and see who is there between them, Wright, Jones, and the three edge rushers above. The other option would be to trade up just a little bit to get Carter or Wilson. You have to think that Atlanta and Chicago would be interested in going DL so maybe you can make a move with Vegas for 7 who could probably still get or QB or CB at 10. Right now the 10th pick just doesn't seem like a good spot for the Eagles.

I still wonder if he'll wear any special pads or anything, or if any company will try to alter the way shoulder pads are made.

He did a PC a few hours ago. I believe this is the first time he commented on it specifically.

I wonder if any insurance policy or however the NFL handles things has changed since that happened.  Has to be some major legal hoops to jump through seeing as a player died on the field no?  I know it's super rare and the chances we ever see it happening again are less than me suggesting the Eagles draft Jalen Carter but the NFL has to CYA just in case I would think.

Generally they might, but their pass rush is already really good, could still sign a guy like Ngakoue for depth in free agency, and I think the fact that the Eagles have not even signed a depth OT in free agency after losing two key linemen is pretty telling to me that they expect to address it early. Also, I think the Lane scare in the playoffs was probably a waking up moment for them that if they lose Lane for a stretch next season they're in trouble. Plus preparing his heir apparent.

But if they view a guy like Smith as the next Reddick I could see them taking him. Not sure they would though.

It really comes down to what players they like better in this draft. If we are being perfectly honest, OL is probably a bigger need though. I don't think penciling Jurgens in as the starting RG is some automatic thing as many do. Having Kelce and Jurgens playing next to each other in the interior at 300 lbs isn't exactly ideal. Furthermore, they have zero depth on the OL after Driscoll. I know we've said it before but Kelce is likely down to his last season. RG is a question mark right now and a huge one after this year when Jurgens is at C. Lane is amazing but he probably only has a couple of years left and there is no guarantee his body holds up for those two years. They are one injury away from being significantly downgraded on the OL. DL could use some help but they do go 4 deep at both DE and DT (Reddick, Sweat, Graham, Barnett / Cox, Davis, Williams, Street) and with this being such a deep DL class there are going to be really good players available at 30 and even 63.

He's going to start wearing a chest spike to impale any player that tries to hit him in the chest.

The angle on Marks and Reese today was that Eagles fans shouldn’t just be disappointed if they don’t take Robinson at 10. They should be outraged that the Eagles made a colossal mistake.

I so hope he’s still on the board when the Eagles pick, passing on him will bring me such satisfaction.

Lol, ratings must be low this month so they need to rile up the clowns who think the Eagles should take a RB at 10.

OL is a need for sure but outside of Lane Johnson, look where the Eagles have found their lineman.

Mailata- 7th round

Dickerson- 2nd round

Kelce- 6th round

Jurgens- 2nd round

Driscoll- 4th round

Opeta- UDFA.  They were high on him and he's back

Even looking at past starter/role players. Semualo- 3rd round  Herbig- UDFA, Pryor- 6th round, Big V- 5th round.

I think they an find another Seumalo in the middle rounds and fill that RG need while still getting impact defensive and skill position players in the 1st.

Mailata- 7th round - Let's be real, they got lucky here

Dickerson- 2nd round - He was the 37th overall pick and would have been a mid 1st if not for injuries

Kelce- 6th round - Yep, but how many 6th round OL turn out to be starters

Jurgens- 2nd round - He hasn't proven anything yet and a 2nd is still a high pick

Driscoll- 4th round - He's a backup who will never be a starter

Opeta- UDFA.  They were high on him and he's back - He's a backup AT BEST, come on

Responses above.

Plus if you run a list of the best DT and EDGE players in the NFL, the vast majority of them are first round picks.  OL is a position that can be developed more with good coaching, where DL seems to be a position where the physical traits will be very predictive of NFL success.

Not arguing with your points, just stating where they were taken.  I was posting more about depth than being starters.  In no way do I think Driscoll or Opeta are starter caliber players but they certainly provide depth.

I think the 2nd/3rd is where they need to target OL and hope they trad.e down to get more in those rounds so they can get a RB in the 2nd/3rd/4th

This is great

No. They didn't get lucky with Mailata. They saw talent and had a coach who could develop it. That's not luck.

Every other team passed on Dickerson in Round One. Howie has taken all kinds of heat in here for drafting guys with injury histories. He hit on this one and if you rip him for other picks you have to tip your hat to him for this one.

He picked Kelce. Was that luck? I guess. Like Brady was luck. And, like Brady, every guy they picked ahead of Kelce busted out.

More to the point, I think drafting Lane was luck. Chip wanted Dion Jordan. We  were lucky someone more stupid than Chip picked Dion.

I also think a lot of doing it now has to do with cash, now that Hurts deal is done. I can’t remember specially how his 2023 was structured before but I remember there wasn’t a lot of savings if any in 2023.

Making room for the high end veteran Howie is trading a 1st for on draft night.

Also, circling back to the "where’s the discount/team friendliness in this deal?” Once the full structure is officially out, you’ll see it. He basically won the lottery and instead of taking the lump sum at once, he took the annuity option. It would have made more financial sense for him to get the most money he can now, but he opted not to which is what’s keeping his cap hits low.

My understanding is the contract basically starts next year so his cap hit this year is unchanged, its around 6 mil.

This is getting super nerdy, so be warned.

That’s correct but what I mean is there is cash vs cap. Teams have a budget for both. Hurts likely has large option bonuses the next 3 years in a row where they are going to be paying him $30 to $50 million each year (just using made up numbers). The cap hits for all that will spread but the cash gets paid all at once each year. This year we didn’t sign many big money deals and Hurts signing bonus was only $23M. So by doing Mailata this year, you pay him a chunk of cash now instead of next year, which opens up cash for Hurts and others next year.

Just my guess what’s going on at more of an organizational level that really means nothing to fans.

TL/DR: I don’t think restructuring Mailata has anything to do with going after someone big this year.

Kidding.  For the life of me, I'll never understand the cap games and how they make things work.

I have been battling some health issues and haven't been able to keep up with the draft this year like other years.  Quick question.  Are there 10 elite prospects in this draft? As in, are there enough that Philly will have one to pick from at 10? Or are there less than 10 which makes our pick likely tradeable?
