Picking up steam?  With whom?  Pretty sure teams have their boards pretty much set at this point.  Only adjustments might be as a result of Top 30 visits today and tomorrow, but I suspect players visiting this week were for confirmation more than anything else.  The whole "picking up steam”, moving up/down draft boards etc. really is more geared towards professional mock draft publishers than teams at this point.  That doesn’t mean there aren’t still some in house discussions but nothing the media would be privy to.  Anything revealed at this point is smokescreen, misdirection and probably focused to misleading the competition.  Hope Howie’s team is spreading the manure far and wide.

Maybe it's more them finding out more information than really picking up steam if you will. Sure it could be smoke or maybe they have good intel. Can't wait til next Thursday to see. A lot of this seems to be coming or based around the Texans & Colts so maybe they are just putting a ton of smoke out there.

How is it "luck” when you correctly identify a "freak athlete” then make your coach leave his vacation to scout him, then do background research to confirm he has the mentality to make the transition, then trade up to make sure you get him instead of your competitors, and then coach the guy who has never played the sport into becoming a top ten player at his position?

That’s about the farthest thing from luck you could possibly have. The Eagles went to EXTREME lengths to make this happen. Every part of Mailata’s career with the Eagles has been a deliberate, concerted effort by the Eagles organization.

To chalk it up to luck is, frankly, typical of people who don’t know what it takes to be successful.

If they were that certain you dont wait til the 7th. Call it low probability. A calculated gamble that worked out spelndidly.

luck is a common way to describe gambles made on incomplete data sets as in poker. There is an element of randomness some would call luck.

Chris Canty today on ESPN listed his Top 5 O-linemen as follows:

5. O’Cyrus Torrance

4. Peter Skoronski

3. Paris Johnson

2. Broderick Jones

1. Darnell Wright

i realize it is one person’s opinion, but don’t you have to add Wright to your Johnson Jones Skoronski trio?

Hi ive been leading that bandwagon for months…

But seems more like a small tradeback guy…hopefully?

porter jr is the player thats waaaay too quiet imho

They had Kelce higher on their draft board but waited till later to take him because they knew he wouldn't be in everyone's board.

The round a player is selected isn't directly correlated with how the Eagles graded him.

Of couree not but think about all the misses or times they got left with their D in their hands. Thats a more complete data set

As far as I can tell the Eagles have had no WR visits, no TE visits and Bijon was only RB who visited except maybe a Harvard guy

Sure there is randomness like injuries. And sure you can never be 100% certain of a player’s mindset or how they will take to coaching. But good teams are better at evaluating these things.

Just as a highly skilled poker player is going to bet on positive EV hands while an amateur will bet on negative EV hands, so too is a team going to draft positive EV players. Over time, it’s proven not to be luck, hence why there are good poker players and bad poker players, good GMs and bad GMs.

And Russell Wilson, but they got cute and lost him.

If they were going to do everything to load up the offense I'd rather take Smith-Njigba than Robinson. Drafting a RB at 10 isn't smart, period.

I just go back and forth on what I try to imagine the Eagles are doing and what their vision is for how to build a competitive team around Hurts and keeping the majority of their young core together.  Do they just go silly talented on offense and load up on weapons for Hurts?  I can see that being the case if they go with Robinson.  Or maybe they view the draft as the perfect chance to reload the defense?

-They are loaded on offense and have so many key players in their prime.  It's imperative to keep them together as long as they can but also make sure the cupboard isn't bare.  That does go along the OL back to our previous back and forth regarding OL depth.  Adding a top RB, TE, WR to go along with the current group would keep this offense trucking even as contract decisions arise.

-On defense, it seems Howie is gambling on once top prospects.  Greedy Williams, Justin Evans, Terrell Edmunds and even Kentavious Street are all players who were once seen as top prospects and plus starters in the NFL.  If 1 or 2 of those guys even sniffs his potential this year, Howie is going to strike with an extension.  I would love to see Williams, Evans and Street reach their potential.

I understand the argument not to take a RB at 10 but I also see that there are occasions when it's necessary to buck the trend.

They did attend a workout of the SD TE though.

Because the previous year they reached for Jaiquawn Jarrett when they needed a safety. Overcorrection

Listening to Zierlein and he talked about players who are higher and lower than how the media sees them.

The NFL is higher on: Van Ness, Gibbs, McDonald

Lower on: Ringo, Porter Jr (due to perceived need to play in press man scheme), Gonzalez (toughness)

Just insane to get cute with a QB you love because you’re banking on your investigation skills being impeccable.

The Eagles are basically meeting with nearly every top OL/DL and many CBs and pretty much ignoring the rest of the positions for visits. Pretty much on character though in past years they've met with WRs.  I think that's their draft plan other than a too good to pass up value pick at another position

Yeah. The Niners definitely told Ian to put that out there.

What are they all in on Sam Darnold for this season then?  Wasn't there just a report a few days ago where Purdy was saying he doesn't know if he will be back this season or not?

Seen better days.

My prediction is the the Niners trade Lance to Tennessee (the new GM was with SF) or Minnesota (Cousins will be a FA, Lance is from Minnesota and there are rumors they want a QB in this draft).

I can't wait to see who the Panthers take #1 overall.  If they take Bryce Young, then Schefter has excellent sourcing like everyone thinks.  If they take CJ Stroud, then Schefter's reputation should take an enormous hit for being an ESPN shill putting false information out to help ratings for the broadcast.

I wouldn't be surprised if Schefter puts out within 24 hours of the draft some "new information" that the Panthers could indeed go Stroud at #1.

The intrigue to me is if purdy is out longer than expected (couple days ago he was unsure he’d play this upcoming year) and they deal Lance then they have to have another plan. I’m betting Rodgers or Brady is going there if they deal Lance. Frankly i think there was a reason the rumor came out a couple weeks ago that if things fell apart with the jets that they’d be in on rodgers. It makes sense as well if they don’t believe purdy will be ready for much of the season, want to deal Lance that even if rodgers just plays one year and then retires it still benefits their SB window. Plus i think they’re willing to unload future picks to do it with how their roster is constructed at the moment. There window really is right now and who knows how long it stays open

Really liking the idea of Hyatt in the Eagles offense if he lasts to day 2.

That trade up for Lance is looking dumber by the day I thought it was dumb when they made it then and it looks even worse now. That said, what could they even get for him? A 2nd rounder? They gave up three 1sts and a 3rd for him. Not even getting to see if you can develop him seems pretty dumb. He hasn’t even played a full season. He played only like 2 or 3 games last year before he got hurt.

I believe the betting favorite is Bryce Young.  He is a big favorite to go #1.  These gambling sites probably have some inside information and know what teams have been thinking.

I know I'd take him if I was Carolina.

Cousins to SF is a pretty good bet.  SF needs a placeholder QB, Cousins is a good replacement on a 1 year deal.  Minny might part with Cousins for cheap, too.

Actually, if I'm playing fantasy GM:

Vikings get: Trey Lance

9ers get: Kirk Cousins, 2023 3rd round pick, 2024 2rd round pick / conditional 1st
