They spent pennies on those players in FA And not high round picks. Spending high round picks on a corner/secondary players with injuries is different than free agents who are making pennies on the dollar.  Spending high round draft picks on a player coming off an injury at that position is completely different than spending pennies on a player in free agency. Who can get cut and nobody would care nor hurt them financially

Come on, join my level of snark today.

Depth?

You don't use pick 10 on depth

But the recovery is so much different.  Expectations are different.

They should have known Jones wasn't going to be himself the following year,  even 2 years. Because Achilles don't have a predictable timeliness for return of explosiveness.

With the ACL you can expect them playing at a high level the next year.

He had the acl October 31. Chance he doesn’t play til midseason and even then he’s just starting to come back after not playing for nearly a year and he’s a rookie. I think expectations are more likely hoping not to use him year 1 cause you have bradberry and slay and fully expect him back year 2. I don’t disagree acl is easier to come back from them Achilles. I’m not so sure the eagles are willing to bank a high round draft pick on a corner coming into the league coming off an acl.

He had a down year IMO, but he's a stud.

Investing in a young lineman like Anton would be smart. The NFL is no country for old men.

If Anton or a good DL are on the board, it's going to be a coin flip decision for Howie.

Plus, continuing to invest in OL is such a sound strategy. If they deviated and used that pick on a RB and LB, when it fails we'd all be like if the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?

And Russell Wilson, but they got cute and lost him.

I am sure that probably happens every draft where a player they liked went earlier than expected.  I suspect they have maybe three players they like at 10, maybe two that they might consider a trade up for.  Wouldn’t be surprised if one of those players the like at ten (my guess is Gonzales) goes earlier than expected.  I have no problem with some misses like Wilson.  But I hope Howie et al learned from not being prepared on Dillard. That’s worse.

Ah ok, my mistake then.

I guess my answer to that would be: I sure hope not.

As we all know Kelce himself basically hand-picked Jurgens as his replacement and it sounds like he was pounding the table for him.  So I think they had a pretty clear plan for Jurgens on the field, and Id imagine that includes him sliding in for Seumalo this year.

But maybe Im wrong and they want Jurgens and #10 draft pick TBD to compete for the Guard spot.  Just seems like a waste of resources with other need3s staring us in the face.

And again, the Stoutland factor shouldnt be discounted.  We shouldnt need ready-made blue chip OLman without an immediate spot for them on the field.

Wasn't that debunked that Kelce had that much involvement in drafting Jurgens?

I think they would for sure. It works out well that we have our starters in place too. Even more incentive to do so since they know they arent in a position where he has to be thrown right in there.

The Eagles are basically meeting with nearly every top OL/DL and many CBs and pretty much ignoring the rest of the positions for visits. Pretty much on character though in past years they've met with WRs.  I think that's their draft plan other than a too good to pass up value pick at another position

Top 30 are only players invited to Philly.  What I would be curious about is which players did they go to work out.  Stout used to do that a fair amount preCovid (Peelle did that with TEs and one of the prior LB coaches did that a fair amount.  Can’t say for the current offensive coaches or any of the defensive coaches).  Part of me hopes the LB coaches (Eliot and Washburn) and RB coaches (Singleton and Pagnetti) have been out doing some workouts and also doing some Zoom calls.

Hating on the OL that made you rich is some choice.

Not that I like 0 as an available number, especially for a RB, but 14 is an absolute garbage number for a RB.

He’s not hating on them. Either way, he’s more concerned with what his current OLine thinks

Honestly these kinds of questions, answers, and inevitable outrage make me crazy. We force media availability, ask questions to put players in a delicate position and then criticize the response.

what was he supposed to say?  Yeah I love my eagles OL and they’re head and shoulders above these idiots?  It’s a no win question. Just like every player who is forced to justify going to the awful team that wrote the biggest check with the "I’m excited about what we’re building here” nonsense. We don’t accept "I’m in this business to take care of my family and this team did that.”

Jonathan Jones has the Eagles passing on Tyree Wilson and trading down 2 spots with the Texans to take Bijan. 😂

I actually like Wilson a lot. But his 2 lis franc injuries make me not want to touch him inside top 10 but a weak draft class I’d probably still take him just cause i think he is one of the few blue chip prospects in this class

Chris Canty today on ESPN listed his Top 5 O-linemen as follows:

5. O’Cyrus Torrance

4. Peter Skoronski

3. Paris Johnson

2. Broderick Jones

1. Darnell Wright

i realize it is one person’s opinion, but don’t you have to add Wright to your Johnson Jones Skoronski trio?
