I dont know who was first to mention Zavala in here. Props to that guy. I am so in on that bandwagon.

I see Tommy briefly touched on him in yesterdays writeup, with this clip. So good. Again, he reminds me of Brooks. Size, athleticism, power, nastiness. Give him some time with Stout.

Unless someone else beat me to it, it was likely me. I’ve been a Zavala truther for awhile now, and mention him here any chance I get. If he’s there at 94 you take him & prosper

If I had to rank the likelihood of Eagles picks, I think I'd go

1. Paris Johnson

2. Jalen Carter

3. Peter Skoronski

I think it’s 1. Nolan Smith 2. Paris Johnson 3. Peter Skoronski 4. Christian Gonzalez 5. Devon Witherspoon, I doubt they pass on Jalen Carter if he’s there. Unless the Intel is that bad. I also keep going back and forth on who they’d prefer between Johnson & Skoronski

Picking a RB at 10 is a complete and utter waste of resources on almost every conceivable level. First, the incremental difference between a great RB an and an average RB isn’t that much behind our line. A back’s effectiveness is almost totally dependent on other players, so they are by definition not difference makers. On top of that, you have to give the 10th pick a 4 year, ~24 million fully guaranteed contract as opposed to waiting for the Vikings to cut Dalvin Cook and signing him for like $5 million. And you have the opportunity cost of passing on someone else.

It’s what dumb franchises, like Dallas, Carolina and the Giants do. Roster construction is about maximizing value and impact per dollar and picks.

I keep seeing this argument but Boston Scott averaged 4 ypc behind this line.  Miles Sanders averaged 4.9 ypc. So your point is valid but at the same time, how many times on these boards have we been up in arms about Miles Sanders piss poor vision and leaving yards on the field?  Miles Sanders is the better RB when compared to Boston Scott and averaged a whole yard better per carry.  Imagine what an even better RB could do?  So many fans HATED Miles Sanders and now we have an opportunity to replace him with what many experts call a generational talent, the best in a decade.

How many times is this team going to be picking in the top 10?  How many times are they going to have the chance at drafting a generational talent?  I know RB is devalued, but having a top 10 pick with a generational talent sitting there is the kind of thing we should dream of.  Instead, we'd be happy with a tackle who might be a guard?

Also there's no reason to want Dalvin Cook.  The Eagles have the exact same thing in Rashaad Penny...a soon to be 28 year old oft injured RB.  No thanks.

Today is Phase 1 of OTA's.  I'm vowing today to not question the frequency or lack there of OTA's, mini camps and any of the other ways the Eagles conduct their off-season program.  I've been a stickler in the past on why they don't practice as much as other teams, or at least seems to be that way, but something is working for this team.

I won't let up on how bad media/team coverage is however.  For the best fans in NFL, or so we're told time and time again by the owner, we still have the worst run team site in the NFL, instead we have to rely on our beat writers who often rather report on what the players outfit or haircuts are.

3 days until Nolan Smith is an Eagle.

Normally I’d suspect OL at 10 and DL at 30, but the way Howie described what he’s looking for at 10 with a "difference maker” and "unique” player, I don’t see one on OL at all.  CB is a possibility with Gonzalez and Witherspoon but the CB class is deep and very likely a solid one available at #30.

Almost all pass rushers who are difference makers are first round picks, so the best edge rusher available could be where they go.  I think Carter goes #5 or 6 and I’d like to believe Howie would pass on him at 10 anyway.  If he’s still available at 10, there’s a reason.

If I was Howie I would lean CB at 10 if either Gonzalez or Witherspoon is there, EDGE at 30 if Foskey or Murphy is still there, LB at 62 if Sanders or Campbell is still there, and RB at 94.  Undoubtedly Howie will be trading around, though.

Would agree with most you said.  #10 pick is a special one and Howie should use it on a difference maker.  Even with a deep CB class, #30 would not yield a top-notch player.  CB at #10 and EDGE at #30 sound about right.  OT/OL they could get in mid to late rounds for  Stoutland to develop.  Yes, Howie would trade around.  He is also likely to use the picks next year to add to get extra trading resources.

I'm good with adding a top of the line rookie RB if they want to do that.   Bijan seems like an upgrade over the worst rb on the roster, whoever that might be.

It seems like some people want to draft backups at other positions and hope those players can be as good as the starters that are there now, after the starters retire.   I think you draft high ras players who are raw and coach them up.  And there are players who can fit that role. I like Witt, because Witt can also do tight end. He was a TE for 2 years in college after 1 year of basketball in college.  Day 3 picks can include OT/TE Witt, and one of the high Ras OGs,   Zavala, Sow, Bradford.   The OL will be well covered by doing that, and no day one or 2 picks are needed.   The Eagles would probably need to trade down somewhere to get the picks to get those 2 players and more.  Trading from 10 to just 11 should get a 5, 6 and 7, jimmy johnson points wise.  And then,  why not Bijan?  Can Bijan line up in the slot?  Hurts, Penny and Bijan in the backfield might be best.  I do like the idea of getting a RB who can line up in the slot taking snaps from Quez,  without taking a WR who can't play RB.   Other options there could be Gibbs and Achane. Wouldn't be using a 1st on Achane and wouldn't be using the 10 pick for Gibbs.

I think that Kancey or Abe Abe are both interesting,  short heavy fast,  DT/DE,   if they want players of that Aaron Donald type,  those would be good choices.   So,  they could get, after trades up and down,  Bijan and Kancey/Abe Abe and a few day 3 picks to get heavy RG,  lighter taller faster OT/TE.

The rest could be defense.

I was going to riff of that segment.

For the Eagles to get Carter, they will need to leap the Seahawks or Lions to do it - I can't see either trading out if the Eagles will want to take Carter and the Colts are unlikely to because of their QB need. Which means the Cardinals pick at 3 in the most likely destination. No idea of value, someone smarter will work that out but it will cost a lot.

And this tweet from a thread posted earlier says a lot

Let’s say there are 14 first round grades this year. Who are they?

Young, Anderson, Carter, Witherspoon, Gonzalez, Wilson, Stroud, Johnson Jr., Robinson, Skoronski, Jones, Banks, Porter Jr., Smith.

It would look similar to the Wentz trade.   10,62,94, 2024 1st and 2025 2nd.

I've done a summary of Big Eds draft visit data and the trends within it say a lot about where the picks are likely going to come from:

Thanks.  I can't see that being a realistic trade they will make without adding a player into the mix.

Anderson, Carter, Wilson, bryce young, stroud, Gonzalez, Witherspoon, skoronski, bijan, paris johnson Jr, Jones, JSN, Darnell wright and van ness (i don’t know if every team does but I’m betting there’s a lot of teams who have him graded higher than we think)

If Howie picks at #10 I would guess the prime suspects at #10 would be:

1)  Skoronski -- provides much needed OL depth/maybe starts over Jurgens

2)  Nolan Smith -- Eagles love EDGE and he'd fall into the mold of character guys with Hurts, DeVonta, etc

3)  Paris Johnson -- best OT available with flexibility to play OG

4)  Devon Witherspoon -- best CB in the class with flexibility to play boundary or slot CB

5)  Lukas Van Ness -- hard to sell me on this one, but I hear good things without seeing good things

6)  Bijan Robinson -- might be BPA at #10 and the Eagles have used a 2nd rounder on RB in the recent past; 1st rounder isn't as big a jump as people think

If the Eagles took JSN at #10 it would represent the 4th year in a row they've used a first round pick on a WR, after Reagor in 2020, Smith in 2021 and trading #18 overall for AJ Brown in 2022

Lol
