i tend to think the packers were more willing to wait than the jets would be and seeing if the market opened up with some other teams down the road and the financial ramifications we talked about a couple weeks back would be less for Gb in 2023 if they did. the jets lost the game of chicken and caved cause for months they said they didn’t want to include a potential 2024 pick especially not a first.

Packers had all the leverage in this, more so after the "90% retired quote from Rodgers”. Jets need a QB, everyone knows it, they had no choice

Joe Douglas isn't a good GM

He's bad. But he had one good class (2022) and one good trade (Jamal Adams) to stave off missing the playoffs in 3 consecutive seasons.

Big Cat is probably having the best day ever right now 😂😂 I can’t wait to see his reaction

For the exact reason you are talking about

I’m not sure if the Jets caved or not. This is basically the exact structure of the deal that’s been leaked for a month or even months, maybe the pick swap got added late, but even that was rumored for awhile. Like someone else said, maybe they needed an assurance that Rodgers would play two years at least so they were comfortable changing the conditional to playing time.

At 13 the Packers could move up to 8 or 10 for QB 3 or 4 if they like them enough.

Even if they *ahem* love their current QB he will be a 5th year option 30 million for 2024.

Yeah packers had more leverage. They were also willing to let it play out longer. It benefited them financially. If they dealt him post June 1 saved them 15.7 mil and only 15.8 mil dead money. Doing it now eat 40.3 mil dead money and 8 mil cap hit. So if they waited it didn’t effect them besides draft compensation this year which I’m guessing they’d would’ve liked 2023 picks but would’ve been ok with better 2024 and 2025 picks if they waited. Also if they did wait and more teams could have gotten involved like SF if lance sucked or another Qb got hurt. Jets really had to get rodgers sooner rather than later as they did all this for him and put themselves in a position where GB had the leverage and Gb wasn’t going to budge unless they got what they wanted

Can't imagine Zach Wilson has a future there. Wonder if they trade him. Interested to see if this is the end of the Packers being annual contenders. They were so spoiled with Favre and Rodgers. If Love isn't the next elite QB, could be a lull period for them that the fan base isn't used to. A 30 year run for them of great QB play.

I'm starting up YouTube for Grossi right now.

The rumor for months why it didn’t get done was cause the jets refused to give up a 2024 pick knowing what rodgers said about retirement and him potentially retiring. He might have promised them he wouldn’t but that means nothing with rodgers. He says a lot of things then goes into a retreat and changes his whole mind. Heck he changed his mind about the packers FO and wanting out a couple years back and then signed an extension. So what good is his word? Not much imo

The rumor I read is that they wouldn’t budge on a clean 1, that it had to be a conditional.

Rodgers is reworking his contract as part of this and it could financially favor him to play in 2024. The Jets do have some flexibility.

Edit:  I am hearing that the reworked contract is to help the Packers cap a bit and not a Jets thing.

Carter fell to 7 in this and LV took him, which will never happen. If he gets to 7, we will trade up IMO. But I was too slow to pause the thing.

9 out of 10 Howies.  I took one off for drafting a player named Sydney.

Jets didn't pay that much for him.  They got him essentially for a 2nd and a 1st.  That's the same deal Howie got for Wentz coming off a season where he was the worst QB in the NFL.

Rodgers will be 40 on December 2nd and he may be insane. Best case he is a turd.

Getting a 1, a 2, and a pick swap equal to a 3 and not having to pay 60 million more to him is a huge win for GB.

If the Jets get 3 years of high quality QB play out of him then its a steal. If they get 1 year and a 1st round exit then they got fleeced.

If he's **** it's a bad trade but if he's good it's not.  I don't know whether he will be good next season but I don't think he's ever really been serious about retirement.  My guess is that it's more likely than not he plays 3 seasons.  I don't know whether that's enough to get the Jets anywhere in the playoffs.  I think it probably makes them a likely wild card team with some potential.  I don't see them being a favorite over KC, the Bills, and Bengals.  Maybe they're like the Ravens.

I remember when everyone wanted him bad and Roseman fired, because he‘s a football guy. 😁

6 out of 10.  Roschon Johnson is kind of meh.  I wonder who was available when either Sanders or Mingo were drafted.   I hope they would draft for a CB in the top 100 but I wouldn't be unhappy with your first 3 picks.

I went and watched it; he was joking and immediately gave McCarthy a slap on the arm.  I think at some level Jerry knows he's not going to get the best head coaches because they don't want to report to a micromanager like him.

Makes sense cause the packers were gonna take a $40.3 mil dead money hit and a 8.6 mil cap hit. If they did it june 1st much more tolerable $15.8 mil dead and 15.7 mil cap savings

Players I think go higher than expected

C Tune

AT Perry

Z Pickens

Banks

D Rush

T Stevenson

Jartavious Martin

lower than expected

Witherspoon

Addison

Kancey

Broderick Jones

Branch

Breese

At first it was the jets wouldn’t give a first at all for rodgers. Then became Gb didn’t want the conditions on the pick and the jets wanted a pick back if rodgers retired after 2023 but the pick would be in 2025. The concession I’m guessing the packers took a condition where it’s likely met but the jets withdrew their asking if a 2025 pick if rodgers retired after this year.
