I don't think Howie was speaking about anyone specifically when he said that, just speaking generally, when you pick top 10 you want a unique player.

And I think he meant 'rare' when he said 'unique'.

I'm confused by this because during the regular season people on here was saying this draft would be great and it had so much depth everywhere. That it'd be better than the previous draft

So why has the mood changed? I don't watch college ball so I usually get my info from you guys but the switch has confused me

While this draft is deep at certain positions, the consensus is that there aren't (m)any blue-chip players - you have to make allowances for either lack of production, lack of prototypical size, lower positional value or emerging character concerns.  I feel OK with 30, 62, 94... 10 unsettled.

What makes Jones & Wilson unique? I would say unique only applies to Anderson, Carter, Bijan in reach.

IMO, Jones is the most athletic of the top tackles.

Wilson is a top edge rusher; they are unique by definition.

Depth could mean that the talent in rounds 3 & 4 is greater than what you would see in a normal draft.

It doesn't necessarily mean that there is more talent in round 1.

Howie also announced to everyone that he would lie his arse off and not give the media any info. The "unique”thing makes for fun banter, but it was just a buzz word that can be spun or stretched into different meanings.

Was looking where Elliot is on the all time list.  Not going to lie, I'm a bit surprise how close he and Derrick Henry are (GP is in parenthesis)

42    Derrick Henry    8,335    2016-2022    (102)
43    Ezekiel Elliott    8,262    2016-2022    (103)

What's funny is that there is all this talk of Howie's cone of silence secrecy and generally we know he's going to take an OL/DL from a list of a few names. And it's been guys who have visited in last few draft cycles outside of covid

PFF has been doing some live mock draft shows and they’re pretty much what you’d expect: staying close to consensuses but adding in wacky analytics to throw a wrench in a player or two at the end of the first round.

Mr. PFF himself, Cris Collinsworth, is on today and he’s doing his own mock draft not based on his site but his own personal opinions. And holy snot it is looney tunes:

All mock drafts are looney tunes.  None are ever close to accurate yet year after year people continue to out any sort of stock into them.

It's one of the best "franchise QB" contracts I've ever seen. Howie already gunning for back to back Exec of the Year.

I think it's too early to say that. IF there is no crazy twists, major injuries, avoids major regression etc, than yes. If something goes very wrong along the way, it's going to be bad. But I think Hurts is a guy you take that bet on. Just gotta hope for no RGIII moments.

Mock drafts are like karaoke. Everyone is terrible at it, but it's popular and harmless fun.

Drafting is a sufficiently inexact science that no one is that bad at it and no one is that good at it.

I am very ambivalent heading into this draft.

The overarching theme here is that we have a franchise QB on a mega contract.

Philosophy 1: Moving forward, we aren't going to be able to get impact WR/OT/DE through free agency.  They must be drafted.  That makes me hesitant to use first round picks on other, less premium positions.  WR is not a major need right now (although I could see it creeping into the picture as one in the next 1-2 years).  I also don't like the WRs in this draft.  So cross that off.  OT works, but they still need to ride the pine until Lane retires, unless they play RG, which really dampens the value of the Jurgens pick.  DE certainly works.  So with this approach, I'd say DE/edge is #1, OT/OL is #2.

Philosophy 2: Due to cap constraints, we can no longer afford to have a roster that has elite talent on both offense and defense.  Our elite defense might as well have been the #32 defense in the league in the final, decisive game of our season.  So why not shop at Costco for a by-design bend-but-don't-break defense and just get absolutely stacked on offense.  In this draft, that means we look at OL/RB/TE with our premium picks.

OL fits both philosophies and that's probably the direction I'd look.

If this comes to fruition…

I wouldn’t be shocked. Texans and Arizona are dumpster fire franchises. I love Paris johnson but not enough to take him at three with Anderson on the board especially if i could get someone to trade up for Anderson and get a nice haul for it. Then again i heard a couple weeks back they really loved Wilson over Anderson so maybe they lose Wilson they don’t also want to potentially lose another idi in Paris johnson that they love by moving back

Can’t wait to take the UCLA QB in round 3.

I'm saying based solely on it's inherent flexibility.

in that PC Howie also acknowledged that they primarily draft linemen, that it's no secret everyone knows. His "unique" comment was in response to being asked about the narrative that they don't take RB or LB in round 1.  His answer was basically saying BPA, you don't just pick for a certain position, you have to be open minded about the pick regardless of position to take a unique player.  He said there are so few unique players in any draft.  He said it's important that whoever they pick is someone that can really impact the game.  I took all that as top prospect, blue chip type player that can change the franchise.  Not "unique" as far as freak physical attributes or something.

Of course he's not really going to reveal anything about their draft plans though.  They ask every chance they get and he talks about the process, value, etc. but is never going to tip anything.

The closer we get, the more okay I am with doing what it takes to get Will Anderson.

Tbh not sure you are leapfrogging up high enough to get Anderson. If he falls to 5-6 then i think seattle or lions take him. I’m guessing at 4 colts would go QB still. Carter might fall at that point to 7. Cause based off some of the stuff on Twitter seattle and lions aren’t comfortable taking him that high. How true that is unknown. I tend to think seattle would take Anderson and so it comes down to how the lions truly feel about carter
