I’ve had an issue with this for years and recently had a conversation about this very thing. I’ve gone to baseball games for over fifty years, maybe two or three a year—my first game was at Connie Mack Stadium — and I’ve never came close to a foul ball. I’ve always wanted one. And if I ever get one, I’m damn sure keeping it. My dues have been paid. I wouldn’t knock over someone to get it, andI wouldn’t wrestle it from a kid. But if I get it, it’s mine.

Exactly!  How many fans have been going to baseball games their entire life and never come close to a ball but when they get one in their 40s they have to just hand it to some kid?  Nope, put in your own time kid.

I don’t think moving up is a smokescreen. When you make calls that’s going to get out. The years the Eagles moved up. It leaked a few days before that they wanted to move up. It fits Howie’s MO it shouldn’t be a surprise. He moves up a lot. He goes after guys he really wants.

Could also be teams holding 5-9 trying to drum up interest. You just never know.

We thought and expected Wentz would be fine with it too. It's just not a good idea to go that high when you already have a QB

Difference is, Hurts actually did go through that in college and recovered and made everything better eventually. I think given that he would be able to handle it a lot easier, and also, as a "running" qb, I would say that there's a better than average chance that he's had to deal with people telling him to change positions or whatever and have to prove them wrong, so he's used to that kind of competition and doubt.

I don’t disagree but I do think hurts could handle it. But it just wouldn’t be a good use of picks so they shouldn’t do it for that reason above any other.

Reid drafted Kolb in the 2nd when they had McNabb.  At one point McNabb got benched for Kolb, and the next game McNabb balled out.  Some players get motivated by competition to play harder and prove themselves.

It's still not a good idea to chance it. Especially when you can get a backup for Hurts later

I had a friend get hit by a hockey puck, and it bounced off her head and hit the kid behind her (he was young, maybe 5). The kid was crying so we gave it to his family for him. It happened so fast and she was like 4 seats away so I couldn’t get over in time to catch it. It was one of those shots that bounces off someone’s stick and launches high up over the net, so no one was seriously hurt.

I'm really liking the idea of trading down from 10 (if there's a team willing to) and then some sort of trade including pick 30 and Chase Young.

Since that "QB factory" comment, he hasn't drafted another QB.  He's signed backups and grabbed undrafted free agents like any team does.  He has since said he regrets that QB factory comment because people over use it.

Hurts was insurance since Wentz had ended the season injured 3 years in a row.  People were shocked and some were upset so I think Howie was trying to list multiple reasons to draft a QB.  He talked about insurance for Wentz, an asset for potential trade, and ways to utilize him on the field together.  Fans and media created a narrative that he would be a Taysom Hill gadget backup QB.  Doug even tried to use him like that.

Since then, they haven't drafted a QB and they won't this year at #10 that's silly.

Of course he won't do it at 10, and I never suggested that.  I don't think he does it this year at all given the limited picks.  But it wouldn't shock me if he picked a QB next year as high as round 3.  He puts more value on the position than any other GM.  He's married to Hurts now with this new deal, but he still will spend more on backups than most GMs would...no GM values the position more than he does

Hurts could handle it.  I thought Wentz could, but apparently he couldn't.  Hurts has already been there/done that.  But I don't think Howie goes for a QB any higher than 3rd round, and not until at least next year

Are we just telling random stories about things that happened to us in the past now? 🙂

So is Anderson better than Carter or would Carter be higher if he didn't have so many red flags?

Carter is the best player in the draft without the red flags.

Yes that’s how interesting this top 10 is.

Figured it related enough to the giving a foul ball to a kid debate but didn’t know who to quote.

Yes. No interest in wasting a first round pick on a RB. We can just sign Cook for 1 year, $4-5 million when Minny cuts him.

EDIT: If he dropped to 30, I'd be OK with it. But no way I'm giving up any additional assets to move up for a RB.

Why are you so certain cook comes here? Why would he not go to Miami or Buffalo?

I would definitely prefer to avoid taking a QB in those rounds simply because I prefer rounds 1-3 be used for players who will be starters, or significant contributors. That said, I think Hurts does have a better head on himself, and is not likely to melt down like Wentz.

The theory of getting a strong cost controlled backup is sound.  If you can save 4mil per year on a backup then you can get a decent player for that

He likely could handle it but I'd still rather not take the chance

NFC path to the SB is waaaaaaaaay easier.  And the best offensive line in the game (by a wide margin) and a legit MVP-caliber quarterback.

Draft class stinks, no problem if Bijan is available at 10 to take him.

Might not be top heavy but plenty of depth at multiple positions.
