But if you get the cheap 💩 that I get at walmart and aldi you pay just over $1 The way things are going I just have to retire from the navy so I can have the commissary as an option. Bc even some of the top shelf brand names there are cheaper than store brands in other stores. But free trips to Italy are also a selling point; I hope I get Naples this year
November 8, 20241 yr Yeah - real actual butter is way more $$ than that fake ish like in the bottom pic there.

It's not like the organic stuff was recently $3 and jumped up to $8.

November 8, 20241 yr Oh butter is too expensive? I'm sure a bunch of tariffs will really help to drive down those prices.

But I'm like you, generic unless it's a clear taste difference. Now I will say, when I look at the name brand stuff it has definitely gone up. I think a small package of Oreos is like $6.50. I'm sorry, but if you're whining about grocery prices and still spending that type of money on Oreos I have no sympathy for you.

If the cost of all imported butter increases, thereby reducing competitive price pressures, you think the price of domestic butter will decrease rather than increase? Is that how you think it works?

But if the cost of imports increase then they may spread it around to other products and not just the directly impacted products.

I haven't had sticker shock since the end of 2022 early 2023 so for me as far as groceries goes the prices have stabilized. But I know that may not be the case everywhere else in the country especially areas experiencing high incidents of organized shoplifting.

Taxing imports of a commodity make the cost of that commodity increase, even if that same commodity is domestically sourced. It just means the increase won't keep pace with the costs of the imported ones.
