Founding fathers may have been predominantly Christian, but they recognized the dangers that undue influence of religious beliefs could have on policy. Jefferson himself openly discussed the wall of separation and the intent for the government of Men to be secular. The human rights act of 1998 is irrelevant. Did you read what I wrote? Of course not. I actually agreed with most of what you said. Would you feel better if I used the words "nation of Christians" instead of a "Christian nation"? smh

It just means the increase won't keep pace with the costs of the imported ones. I understand if the commodity is imported but not if it is domestically sourced which is not the subject of the tariff. But like I said if the whole sale supplier/retailer feels its too much to increase the product by say 25% they may just increase it by 15% and then spread the remaining 10% across products in the same category

Make it about class again and preach moderate economic policies that include helping all little guys/gals. American economic policy has been failing American's in the bottom two thirds of incomes for 40 odd years, it's the Democrat insistence on maintaining that system that's the problem. People want change, and when the supposed left party is talking like the system now works and they'll just keep it going and the big orange guy is saying I'm going to deport Jose and Hector and then your wages will go up, it doesn't matter if his arguments are horseshit, he's offering a change of tack to people who've seen their standard of living decline or flatline since Reagan started the BS machine we call trickle down economics. Pointing to wage rises under Biden when the reality is inflation means that wages declined by an average of 3% in real terms his first two years and rose by 1% on average the last two, that's why the average American doesn't think the economy is going gangbusters. Add to that polling of your core vote has been screaming that your Israel policy is wrong since at least February and all you say in the campaign is that they should shut up and vote for you, and what you get is your ass handed to you on every electoral measure you care to name when a lot of them decide that actually it's not worth voting at all, and before anybody says but Trump is worse on Israel, it's impossible to be worse, that infrastructure in Gaza can't be reduced to rubble any worse, those shredded kids with empty skulls can't die again and senile Joe refused to put a stop to that, having that smirking asshat Miller deny whats happening like that Iraqi guy who used to appear on the news saying the defence of Iraq was fine when you could literally see the Abrams rolling into town behind him. And the Dems will learn no lessons from this, they'll just say that Trump won because he's more boob and swing further right for '28. The idea the Dems lost because American politics demonizes white men is absolute nonsense on stilts.
November 8, 20241 yr So there are a lot of popular brands of butter that are imported..EU has a higher threshold for what is considered butter so I assume its a higher quality. https://www.thespruceeats.com/fancy-butter-ranking-7484224

But like I said if the whole sale supplier/retailer feels its too much to increase the product by say 25% they may just increase it by 15% and then spread the remaining 10% across products in the same category On a call, so I'll try to keep it somewhat concise. Ok so let's say brands like Plugra and Kerry are on average 20% higher than a domestic equivalent. So for this example, $5 for domestic and $6 for imported options. That imported option is currently priced in such a way to attract some customers willing to pay that premium and buy the imported option rather than the domestic one, thereby lessening demand on domestic product. Less demand directly translates to downward pressure on the cost of that domestic product. Now let's say a policy chance means the imported options get taxed heavily, and the end-user cost jumps from $6 to $8. So while the immediate cost to the domestic option will start at $5, as more and more customers stop buying the imported option, they will switch to the domestic one. Increased demand on domestic product translates to increased cost, and that $5 domestic butter jumps to $6 before you know it. There are no free market dynamics the keep the price of a product low when the costs of the competition is increased. But they're not even saying we just want to keep prices where they are, they think Trump's policies will actually decrease prices, which is even more hilarious.

Something went on with paper work for his businesses at some point, and he got caught up in some legality with that stuff that lead to his deportation. The guy has major support from this supposed r a c i s t town to let him come back. He was a very active, involved member of the Hazleton Integration Project and Youth Center and did a lot for the community. He ran a successful business that people enjoyed. Was a hard worker and made an honest living. He contributed to society in a very positive way, unlike many of the illegals here. I think a guy living that way should automatically get his papers for citizenship regardless of how he got here. Nope he's screwed too. Gotta go.

November 8, 20241 yr I like wonky stats. And I wonder if MAGA has thrown the US into a new party system? The parties are the same but the make-up of their voters seems different. In the 1990s Republicans represented the establishment while Democrats were the counterculture. Now it seems flipped. This makes me think it is true.
