I guess the way around that is to hold a virual roll call prior to the deadline set forth by Ohio to comply with the language of their law. This apparently came up when people were speculating that the roll call was new and its purpose was related to the discussions of replacing Biden. That works if Biden is still the nominee. What happens if those calling for an open convention get their way? This could come to bite them if it's not Biden and they don't have a consensus by the deadline.

Ohio doesn't really matter in the end, but I'd imagine a transition to Harris would still be in compliance with whatever law they have in place.

If it's a close race where a few electoral votes make the difference, you want to be in every battle. The transition really isn't the issue though, it's the timing. The nominee has to be certified by a specific date, Ohio's law requires that the nominee be certified 90 days before the election. That's August 7th. The Democrats scheduled their convention for August 19th to the 22nd. So it doesn't matter who it is that's certified, it just has to happen at least 90 days before the election in order to be on Ohio's ballot. The GOP's convention will be over about 3 weeks prior to the 90 day time frame. Maybe it'll matter, maybe it won't. Let's just say that it's not done in time and Biden (or any other Democrat) is not on the ballot. People could still do a write in, but how many people will just skip it rather than do that extra step? Also, is Ohio leaning more 'red' than 'blue'? Maybe it won't matter even if a Democrat is on the ballot. But like I said, you want to at least be in the fight and not just forfeit those votes on a technicality/planning (of the convention) oversight.

July 8, 20241 yr Yeah, Ohio is a lost cause for Dems. Sherrod Brown has been able to stay in office because he’s geared his political career towards helping working class whites. Otherwise he’d be toast.

Ballot access is one of the logistical challenges with nominating someone other than Biden or Harris. But it's moot because there's nobody that's winning the nomination at the convention that even has a snowball's chance in hell of winning Ohio.
