Counting every ballot by hand is going to require a counter and a witness, and probably will be hand counted twice. 

Sustained pace for a pair of counters to validate and agree on the dozen or whatever races that are probably on each ballot is going to take what, at least 10s/ballot? 

So 2 people count and validate 6 ballots/minute. That's 360 ballots/hour, or 180 ballots/man/hour. 

5,000,000/180 = 27.8k man hours. 

You'd need about 3,500 ballot counters to do this in an 8 hour period. Not counting every time some partisan observer who's also present contests a ballot.

3rd world countries do this, I'm pretty sure Australia does it, and so did we in the last 40 years and we had results on election night outside of hanging chads and without early voting.

80, 84, 88, 92, 96, every state but Florida in 2000, and 2004 never happened or if they did they disparaged voters because I guess they think people in cities are too stupid to count along with being too stupid to get ID. People in Burkina Faso vote with paper ballots and have needed ID to vote since Clinton, but I guess they have better math classes in schools and more money and are better equipped than the US to get people ID. 

 

I don't know if anybody follows this guy or not, but he has been a beast in the courtroom.

I can speak for PA in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. We had analog machines with levers. So the manual count was opening the back of the machine and reading what the dials said. It took about 2 minutes. Those hanging chads ballots in Florida were fed through a machine that counted them....hence the chads. So the idea that it's no sweat to read 5 million paper ballots one by one in an hour or 2 is retarded. When we make fun of you guys for being ignorant and stupid...this is the kind of thing we are referring to.

First, I appreciate you pointing that out at the end. We disagree, but I think your intent was kind.

I'm not saying an hour or two. Hire the people necessary and get it done. If 3rd world countries can count ballots in one day so can we. Plus, is this for every ballot or just mail in ballots? I'm not talking about you, because I think you are very reasonable, but I'm tired of excuses of why election integrity measures can't happen.

That wasn't the only problem with the Palm Beach ballots. It wasn't straightforward where the name lined up with the hole you were supposed to punch because the names alternated to either side of the ballot page. If you weren't super fastidious you could easily punch the wrong hole (lol). Then, when you pulled the ballot card out of the machine, it wasn't immediately apparent if you did what was intended. It was a very stupid ballot design (almost, but not quite, as stupid as @EagleVA).

So let me get this staraight.  There are folks posting in this forum who think after the polls close at 7 or 8 p.m. on a Tuesday night that a crew of people is going to come in and count all the ballots by hand in an hour or two?

Where is the hour or two coming from? Do you know how many countries around the world count ballots by hand? One state in the US can't match what they can do for their mail-in-ballots?
