I've been here for 32 years, it's a diverse community that doesn't typically go one way more so over the other, most (if not everyone) in my particular neighborhood are from somewhere else (mostly because everyone around here is in or was in the military). The three neighbors directly across the street are from Kansas, Michigan and Illinois. Next door is from... I forget where they're from, Georgia comes to mind but I won't swear to that. Down the road, Bedford, PA. I'm from Maryland. So this neighborhood is from all over the country, nobody around here that I know, is actually from Virginia. In the early and mid 90's, there were lots of Clinton-Gore signs along with Bush-Quale. Fast forward through each election cycle and you get the same sort of thing. 2020, there were lots of Biden-Harris signs along with Trump-Pence. This year though, I haven't seen ANY Harris-Waltz stuff. Zero. Could it be that people are hiding their allegiance? Sure, but that's atypical for this area for the past 32 years that I've been here. Out of curiosity, I just looked up the historical Presidential Election "Red-Blue" maps that show each districts color, (not just by state) since 1992 (the first general election that took place when I moved to the area). This area (my district) voted this way each election cycle: (Solid Red, Light Red, Pink, Solid Blue, Light Blue, Baby Blue... you probably can figure out what the colors mean) 1992: Pink 1996: Pink 2000: Pink 2004: Light Red 2008: Baby Blue 2012: Pink 2016: Light Blue 2020: Light Blue 2024: ? So historically, this area has gone both ways with neither side being solid red or solid blue and in the last two Trump elections, this area has gone for his opposition. How this cycle turns out may be more of the same, but just based on campaign signage and other things of that sort, it's not looking that way. But we'll see. Here's the site where I looked at the maps: https://sites.google.com/view/presidentialbycongressionaldis/election-results

Not only this neighborhood, throughout the entire area of Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and areas of Norfolk (which I've only been in Norfolk briefly)... I don't think I've been into Portsmouth or Suffolk in recent months. Directly next door on one side is a lesbian couple (they've told me that their house is 'haunted', and they're not the first ones in that house to tell me that ). Across the street, a mixed African-American/Caucasian couple. Hispanic and Asian. Muslim, Christian and Jewish. 5 miles down the road, is a Muslim community center. So very much diverse. So trying to characterize an area that you're completely unfamiliar with as 'hillbilly heaven' is entirely unfair, offensive and closed minded. This neighborhood (and the ones nearby), being made up mostly of current and former military, is very diverse like you'd see in the military. Are some of them hiding their political affiliation? Maybe. But they've never done it in past elections.

And I said in my post that typically, my specific neighborhood has had multiple parties represented over the past 32 years. I remember seeing Perot signs in the 90's and I remember one of my former neighbors (former because both of them have since passed away) with Lyndon LaRouche signs (if you remember him). So again, don't be so quick to marginalize or demonize those that you don't appear to agree with. Especially when you (probably) only know a grand total of 1 person in this immediate area (me) and I think the mods and attest to me not trying to keep 'undesirables' out of the EMB... even when some of them have turned around and personally attacked me.
