June 27, 20242 yr When you take freshman it’s always a gamble. But the Evan Turner pick is a perfect example of why you should not take an upperclassman in the draft.

June 27, 20242 yr Author it's refreshing to see them draft a guy who can actually shoot instead of a guy they HOPE can learn to shoot. maxey is really the only guy like that they drafted who developed a shot. simmons, zhaire, springer, etc never did & never will.
June 27, 20242 yr Author SUMMARY: The guys who have tended to exceed their draft position offensively in recent years have tended to either be elite in terms of creativity or be great shooters who can play through contact. McCain is absolutely the latter, and his production at his age is not something to be ignored. He has a strong 200-pound frame, and the intel on McCain isn’t just good; it’s elite. He ticks every single box from a character perspective and is known to be excellent in terms of work ethic — both in the gym and in the weight room. There’s every reason to buy into him continuing to grow from this already strong starting point. At the very least, you’re getting a great shooter whom you know will come in and make 3s. He also has more scoring ability beyond that, too. He’s a sneaky bet to average 20 points per game in the NBA at some point. He has more juice than someone like Seth Curry, to whom he is often compared. I also like his defensive tape more than many of the smaller guards in this class. I have McCain as a lottery pick, and I’d imagine that I’ll be higher on him than most in this class.

It’s not bad to take upperclassman. You just can’t expect as much growth out of them. It’s more of a what you see is what you get

Were some people on here wanting Drummond. Drummond was making around 3.5 mil. McCain based of bodner’s numbers is making $4 mil against the cap. I think McCain is likely a rotational guy in the nba but not at the level you need for the first couple years. So it comes down to the money being spent on a guy who’s likely 10-12th guy on your bench early only over a guy that could be in your rotation now and help you immediately. Can say why not both but if you make a move for let’s say Ingram and been rumors of them going after kcp (who by reports is 20-22 mil) the money begins to be very tight at that point. It’s why i think they wanted to trade the pick and acquire assets. Tbh I really wouldn’t be shocked if McCain is included in a trade at some point between now and the deadline.

That would have been my guy. https://twitter.com/NuggetsLead/status/1806152895752253452?t=NiibxZWWs2gzDehDfZf2xA&s=19 2nd rounders Flip, Furphy, Kolek, Ighodaro (like his game and probably get in the 50s) Holmes was my guy too but I can't get upset with the pick. They had better players to choose from than I expected and they essentially took the safest pick as far as a player having a high floor even if his ceiling may not be as high.
June 27, 20242 yr By the way it annoys me that I was able to call Bostons pick last night watching with my friend. I said they're either going to get Filipowski backing up Porzingis. Horford will finally retire some day and then they'll still have a really good stretch 4. Or they'll take Schiereman and he will be awesome. They took Schiereman. He will be awesome. Even picking at 30 you just know the good teams will find the good players.

It’s more of a what you see is what you get I think the issue with knecht is his defense is never going to be plus level at nba and he might be at his ceiling at 23. Frankly i think he at best is going to be an average nba defender but more likely slightly below average. But i do think as a rookie due to physical maturity and experience he likely can be a bench scorer in your rotation like 8-10th man. Probably more of 10th man. That said a bigger chance he’s likely maxed out as that. I’ve seen a lot of different comps. Mike miller being the most. But Mike miller was younger when he got to the nba at 20 and i also think more athletic (not that he was a great athlete but more so that i think knecht). Miller was also 6’8 and knecht is 6’5. I saw one saying Klay that’s just bs. i saw a lot of klay games at Wazzu. imo better prospect and he had two way upside that knecht really doesn’t have. imo if we were taking guys that are younger and likely need 2 years to get to the point of being major rotational guys then I’d have liked Walter. I think his comps are pretty spot on. His major comp is KCP. With a bunch of rumors that I keep hearing on every sixers podcast that the Sixers are going after KCP if/when he opts out then you might as well have drafted a guy who could’ve learned under KCP and another kcp on the team is something coveted in the nba. I like McCain in a couple years as a guy off the bench that can give you some scoring pop. but I don’t think he’s ever going to be a plus level defender. I don’t think he has a lateral quickness to be that. That said i don’t see McCain or Walter being major contributors their first year and maybe by end of the second they get there.

June 27, 20242 yr Welp, I have seen several Mock Drafts for this kid going to the Sixers. Funny on Comcast Sports Net, when talking with John Clark about him, Mark Jackson said he would not draft this player because he doesn't believe he's a good fit with Maxey. He is a good shooter but may struggle against bigger defenders. I would have prefered the sixers try and draft a big man, PF, 3 and D type player.

Which isn’t going to catch the Knicks let alone boston

I said last off-season and during this season, that I didn’t disagree with their plan to try to clear as much cap space up for this upcoming off-season and have draft assets to make moves. However, I also thought there was a better chance that they were gonna F it up then get it right. It’s one thing have a plan but when you get punched in the face, what are you gonna do about it? Right now, the Sixers are getting punched in the face because Paul George doesn’t wanna come here. OG resigned with the Knicks. Bridges got traded to the Knicks. What else is out there to significantly upgrade your team to be as good as Boston? KD isn’t leaving Phoenix. LeBron is not leaving LA. There’s not much out there to get you to that level. Can be better than 2023-24 roster but ultimately not as good as Boston and Knicks

Jared has some craftiness of Brunson with his shot making if giving the opportunity to develop it with the 2nd unit could pay off big time.

June 27, 20242 yr No stars want to come here and Morey drafts a gay tik toker who loves to paint his little nails every day, instead of working hard, over a really good player in Knecht. This franchise is in free fall.
