Supposedly he was in the conversation at some point for #1 overall, and probably would be in different years without Bedard in it but the Russia contract thing pushed him down. I also read somewhere there might be character concerns but I have no idea.

Someone else on Twitter put it as "it’s basically the Flyers drafting Jalen Carter”

Sounds like Flyers are in tank mode.  Draft a guy who can't play for 3 years.  Lol

They've been so bad for so long I'm not even sure this qualifies as tanking.

Good. This was just a ticking time bomb anyway.

EASILY the fewest arrested of any division

Is it because of geography or perhaps metropolitan size? Smaller places like Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, JAX at the top

Congrats to the 76ers fans here. Harden is not a winner.

I mean it's not unusual for top picks to take a few years to develop or for a foreign player to take a few years to come to the NHL.  I mean Forsberg was drafted in 91 and did not play in the NHL until 94.  I think this is a similar situation.  Hopefully, the Flyers won't trade him away.

I don't think it's a coincidence perennial loser franchises in that time span are the majority at the top.

Detroit with 15. Giants 19. Rams 20. I'd say location doesn't matter.

I don't think areas with more crime make it more likely that players are going to engage in criminal behavior.

I don't see how it's anything but good. He could have easily opted out and just walked.

The only people that will see it as bad are the "run it back crowd" but it's pretty clear that's not really an option unless 76ers overpaid him.

I’d imagine the only reason Harden would agree to this is the FA landscape was smaller than 35m$

Dame time?

I just have no idea how the salary cap works.  I understand they can get something but I don't know if they would have more space without signing him.  My assumption is there's some sort of trade exception that makes these deals worthwhile.

Maxey

I forget his name

im not a Sixers fan

Embiid?

Would definitely add a dimension to the offense you thought you were getting with harden. But would Portland ever do that?

Yea, NBA salary cap is stupid. I believe if Harden just walked that would be the worst case scenario overall.

Morey needs to nail these Harden and Tobias trades or Embiid might be asking out by the deadline.

His contract is for something like $36 million this year but if he opted out and walked it wouldn't be like the Sixers would have $36M in cap space from it.  They would have only gotten something like $12M in space if he walked.  So it was always a sort of damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of situation.  Now when they move him away they will be brining back around $36M in salaries.

It will be interesting to see how Morey handles this gift that Harden has given him.  He has some trade chips now in Harden and Tobias to if nothing else stock pile some draft picks if that's the route they want to go for targeting the next disgruntled superstar.  Still going to have to take on some salaries though and also try to put together a team that can continue to at least win in the regular season to keep Embiid happy this year.  This team is going to continue it's streak of just having very high roster turnover ever 1-2 seasons around Embiid.

My prediction?  Sixers get Damian Lillard.  They didn't have enough assets before but Harden as an expiring contract along with Tobias as an expiring contract should be able get some nice assets in return that they can then package to get Lillard.

This team can F up any situation. Ill be happy when its done. For now Im cautiously optimistic, but also ready to hear that Morey is demanding ridiculous returns for Harden.

It's good, very good. Even if they don't improve, I'd rather move on from him without further commitment then lock in and stay the same.

Windhorst speculates on Dame to Sixers.
