Harper to play first base tonight!

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!

My hunch is that Harper will wind up being pretty bad in the infield.

Would be tough for him to play worse than Hall.  So, getting him out of DH, making it possible for Schwarber to take that spot will be a net improvement on the defensive side.

Josh Harris won't wait until after training camp has started to reveal the rebranding of the Washington team next year.

It’s a fear i have too. But still better than hall. He’ll try his best but it’s not as easy as we think. I’m actually most worried something happens like with hoskins a couple years ago down in Miami where bad throw and guy ran into his arm and tore his elbow up

One of the reasons why i want bellinger. He won a gold glove in the OF and can play all 3 spots. And he can play first base at a good level. He’s also taking against lefties at .345 and hitting 290 vs. righties. He makes the most sense and versatility

What about adding Bellinger and Arenado both to the team?  It would likely cost Bohm to one deal or the other as well.   I'm not sure how much I want to add another 30+ year old, but if its just about getting the WS this year... adding Arenado likely increases the odds.

I made this point in the Philly thread. The problem with trading Alec Bohm right now is he is hitting like 350 with runners in scoring position. Even if you get Nolan Arenado, your defense is gonna get better and if he hits 350 with runners in scoring position, the issue is unless Harper starts getting more power, Turner, Schwarber, and JT Realmuto start really hitting runners in scoring position then you might wind up being in the same spot.

You don’t really need an upgrade from Alec bohm as much as you just need another bat in that lineup because they have a hole in the lineup that hall, sosa, Clemens have tried to fill and failed. Now if you get bellinger and you get Arenado, it solves the problem. However, you’re gonna wind up giving up a lot of prospects and depleting your propsects. Especially pitching wise if you give up abel and McGarry to get that Arenado deal done. The problem is nola can leave at the end of this year so you’re gonna have to potentially replace him.  In 2025 off-season Zack Wheeler is going to be 35 and likely going to want to get one last payday so there’s a chance he also leaves. I’m not sure as much as I love arenado that’s the move you want to make.

I think bellinger you’re gonna wind up giving up less and getting a really productive player that fills the hole in your lineup. And doesn’t  deplete your farm system. He’s only a rental, so I think his value gets decreased a little bit. But you can also qualify offer him at the end of the year which means if he signed somewhere you’re likely going to get a second and 5th round pick that you wouldn’t have had.

Well, Harper's power is going to come... eventually.  But it seems with the TJ surgery, it takes a year for it to come back.

But forget all this, just bring in Ohtani and fix the pitching staff, the OF and the power in the middle of the lineup.  Having him hit behind Harper would mean Harper would see a lot more pitches to hit.

Ideally Ohtani solves all the issues. He’s gonna cost you stott, Abel, McGarry and likely Rojas. And he’s a free agent at the end of the year. Dodgers have been planning for ohtani for past two offseasons. Really good chance he goes there and reportedly wants to stay on the west coast

Oh, I know Ohtani costs the whole house... and that was mostly tongue in cheek.  But, frankly, I'd only give up half of that for him, because he's a rental.   He's a FA after this year, so I'm not mortgaging the future for the next 3 months.  That's silly.

Lane Thomas is an interesting name to watch from Washington.  He's still got two years of arbitration left, I believe, which means that they'd still have control of him after this year.  But he might be available for fairly cheap.

I’m not giving up Stott for a two month rental, no matter how good the player might be.

It doesn't say PUP so I don't think he's injured. If this is a disgruntled player situation, I wonder if Howie would pursue him for WR depth. He's disappointed. Wonder if a deal swapping Quez and a pick for him could be in order. He always felt built for the slot when I watched him in college.

Rather keep Quez than get Bateman.

Yeah Thomas makes sense. Duvall on the Red Sox does too. I’m for bellinger just cause i don’t think they want to play harper at 1b every day. Thomson today said he’s playing tonight. Then DH Saturday then 1b Sunday. Cave is likely playing first on Saturday. So i think with bellinger can move him from OF to 1b and harper plays 3 games at first and 3 for schwarber in LF over the course of a week.

Agreed.  Stott is off the table.  I might be able to be talked into Abel, McGarry and Rojas.  Chances are, only one of those guys actually works out in the bigs.

Years and years ago, the Phillies had some 'stud' minor leaguers that they couldn't trade... Gavin Floyd, Cole Hamels as the pitchers with Michael Taylor? and Dominic Brown.  Only Hamels actually worked out according to the hype.

Rather keep Abel and McGarry with painter needing TJ. Nola and wheeler both could both leave at the end of this year and end of next year. Gonna need at least one of McGarry or Abel. Preferably both as one might succeed and one might fail with how prospects work.

I was so hyped for Kyle Drabek and was disappointed he was traded for Doc.

I’m an idiot.

Yeah... like I said, it would take convincing to move them.

No worries, we all have high hopes for the young kids to become the next big thing, but it works out so infrequently.

Ball always seems to follow the new guy. .  3-1 on the first put out.

they won the cliff Lee deal even with carassco turning out to be a solid MLB pitcher. The gem of that deal was supposed to be Knapp. Never did anything of note.

Biggest mistake that was made was dealing Lee when getting halladay. If they just kept Lee and dealt for halladay they might have won in 2010. Then again maybe they don’t trade for oswalt

Yeah, I was most upset that Knapp was included in that deal.
