The Curse Of The Bob — he’s 6 wins away from a Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy.  We’ll see if he tires out.

So stupid of them to get rid of him when they did, and people want to do the same thing with Hart. People never learn

Not that I'd want this full time, but the black alternate helmet was jus soooo unimaginative.

Hoping Howie is just being patient with a gamelan for both LB and S. With super bowl aspirations and aging team legends who may be gone after the year, I really hope they don't go into the year with Brown & Edmunds as the starting duo without another addition for camp competition. This should be an all in year. Brown has barely played FS in college never mind in the NFL. I know he showed the potential in this area at the senior bowl, but he needs to have the redshirt year learning it while getting on the field in packages. Trotting him out against the Pats as your starting FS is too much to ask of a third round rook. Juron Harmon and Adrian Amos are sitting out there. John Johnson as well. None of these guys should cost all that much. Bring one in for starting competition and would serve as quality depth if Brown completely shines during camp as the FS and wins the job.

Same goes for LB. Dean hasn't done anything in the NFL. I understand he needs to be a part of the plan however to just throw him and Morrow, who doesn't have $1 of guaranteed money which says a lot about how the league views him, out there is a very shaky starting duo. If Deion Jones shoulder is ok, I bring him in on an incentive laden deal and he immediately is the best LB on the team. They may even need another such as Kwon Alexander or Rashaan Evans, even for quality depth purposes. Even if they are going to do their usual ultra cheap deal at LB and trot Dean & Morrow out as the starting duo and one gets hurt, you are in a bad way there.

I respectfully disagree.  I can’t think of any RB who was better or more consistently consistent.  It is hard to imagine how he would have thrived in the current training methods.

You have to consider differences in size, speed and defensive alignments when declaring players.  Is Christy Mathewson or Grover Cleveland Alexander the GOAT pitcher(s) in baseball.  (My best friend in high school and through college was a baseball fanatic.  He had this game that considered stats for playing baseball games.  I drove home crazy because my "team” was anchored in the deep past with my starting lineup including those two.)  Brown’s running style was perfect for his era.  I remember him from my youth.  But there are players like Payton and Sanders that were that for their time.  Or Campbell, or Dickerson, or, dare I say it, Simpson. But what of players we never saw like JimmThorpe or Red Grange? Can you imagine the backfield of Nagurski and Grange.  Probably the first thunder and lightning duo.  But that’s why I dislike GOAT.  Greatest of His Time makes much better sense because what worked in one era with a different game and different rules wouldn’t work today.  Take the Four Horsemen.  Those guys were Covey sized.  Nagurski was a beast in the day when his 235 was as big as most linemen.

You talk a lot about the joy of the game versus success being only winning championships. I agree.  But a Deacon Jones head slap doesn’t negate the bend and speed of a Myles Garrett.  Different era.  The play of Brian Dawkins or Ed Reed doesn’t negate the play of Jack Tatum.  Different game different rules, joy to watch.  Tom Brady benefitted from his era.  But he would be unknown if he played in Jim Thorpe’s era.  Doesn’t make their play any less spectacular but GOAT is an overused media creation that really is inaccurate and truly portrays a player who was phenomenal for his time.

None of this takes away from any of their achievements and the joy of watching a player excel in the game.  But sometimes it’s that one play, that one game, sometimes it is the overall career.  Sometimes it’s just the chemistry of a team of underdogs rising to the occasion.  None of that takes away from Jim Brown’s on the field performance, which was a joy to watch.

LB is more a worry than S, IMHO.  Dean is the one the team is high on and he would have all the chances to be the starter.  Dean is unproven and beyond him, not much.  The prudent approach is to sign another vet to add in the rotation and add young players to compete and develop.

Re S, B&B are likely the starters.  2 FA vets provide experience and back-up.  Not exactly loaded, but should be serviceable.  If the young players step up, that would be an extra bonus.

Does anyone actually understand how the NBA salary cap works? I watched a video with Rich Hoffman and he said the Sixers can give Harden a max contract, but if he leaves they will only have around 10 million in cap space. How the hell did they pay Harden 36 million last year and not have 36 million this year if he leaves?

As I understand it, there is only a soft cap in the NBA. If a team exceeds it they have to pay a tax of some percentage of the amount by which they exceed the cap.

Because in the NBA you can go over the cap to keep your own players.

So the 76ers are so far over the cap that when his big contract expires, they still don't have any cap space.

They wont have 10M either They'd have to let him leave, and also let all of their other free agents go as well,  to get that little bit of space.

Or maybe the 10M he's talking about is the MLE they will be able to use. Teams get a mid-level exception to use.  There is a tax payers MLE, and a non-taxpayers MLE for a different amount.

When Harden keaves, I believe the the 6ers are expected to get an MLE width about 12M.

Nolan smith is all over the eagles socials. He’s a great, confident guy, you can tell he’s gonna be a leader and an important players for us.

definitely will be a fan favourite

That looks like the jersey was taken right off of Zach Wilson’s back. I’m all for going back to Kelly green, but it’s gotta be noticeably different from their green

Actually you bring up a player I didn't mention in my post above. I think Smith will have a role as an off the ball LB in conjunction with being a pass rusher this year. Though I still want a vet LB that has a better resume than Morrow regardless. But that is one of my predictions for this year, Smith plays more off the ball LB than most would think. Most don't think the will do it at all it seems.

As of right now, we have swapped Edwards for Dean and White for Morrow. If White had finished the year like he started in 2022, I might look at this as a downgrade, but this really shouldn't be a noticeable difference. Morrow brings experience and will be playing on a better roster. Regarding Dean, I think the Eagles easily could have paid Edwards more than he signed with the Bears for if they weren't confident in Dean stepping right in. I think this was the plan all along at MLB. Edwards was one of the top LBs last season in the NFL, so nobody should be happy that we have to replace him. I don't think it will take long, though, for people to be just as happy that Dean fell to us last season. We had some opportunities to see him last season and he looked up to the challenge.

After those two, the Eagles have  several developmental projects that have had development time and, at some point, you have to give them a look. Bradley is confident and ready prove himself. Taylor was exposed on the practice squad all last season due to numbers and less ST value, but he showed growth before his injury in 2021. Elliss doesn't have as many seasons under his belt, but is a quality special teamer.

Some may disagree, but I think having a new DC this season will help in finding the best starters in the bunch. It will be a real evaluation of what they have. My expectations are for Dean and Morrow to start this season while they continue to develop the guy to replace Morrow going forward. I'm less concerned about what Bradley and Taylor can do if they had to start than I am about whether or not they can avoid injuries. Elliss could develop into an Alex Singleton clone.

I don't have a problem waiting to sign vets while giving the unproven guys a long look early. Sometimes those vets just don't pan out either (see Zach Brown).

Trying to convince Howie on guaranteeing his contract.  With the salary cap on rookie salaries, guarantees and carve backs are about all that is really negotiable and why there tends to be a hierarchy in signings.

Why? In Morrow you have a LB with S skills just like what they got with White last year.  Basically a cover off ball LB.  There seems to be a pattern here.  Interesting signing for me was Edmunds, who is almost WIL sized and played some linebacker at Virginia Tech.  Would not be surprised at all to see some sets where it’s Dean as the off ball LB and three Ss, Brown and Blakenship high and Edmunds in the box.

That looks exactly like the green the Eagles wore in the 70s.

All 1st round picks are fully guaranteed now, so that isn’t even a hold up.

Yea, the 1970s green wasn't the bright Kelly Green.  It's also tough to tell the actual color in so many photos because photography technology has improved by leaps and bounds.

This is the moment that did it for me, at the Georgia championship celebration:

When pressed about his behavior, he said it was because the parade wasn’t for the fans

   If not for the fans... then who is it for?  Who are you 'parading' in front of?   Just do it in the practice facility if it's not about the fans.

PUTZ.  For a guy who was all about UGA and walked on because he was a huge UGA fan, he sure does seem to forget his roots.

He said it was a celebration of him, so his day is what validates his behavior. Hold on, let me look up the actual quote….

"Parades are a symbol of celebration, and while last year’s was a celebration of that championship, this year’s parade was a celebration of a very special period of time (for me!)”

Imagine bringing that guy in your lockerroom, he’s gonna get eaten alive

LeBron is 134th in 3-point % in the playoffs but 5th in attempts.  🤡

He's 4th on his team in assists to turnovers but demands the ball.

He is the worst coach in the NBA. (coaches have not been allowed to coach him for about 10 years)

Well... if the talent is high enough, narcissism like that can be overlooked...
