EMB Blog: 2023 Camps and Preseason - NO POLITICS

Featured Replies

Almost everyone in the blog being out on Blankenship all offseason amd I've been saying he will start and be great.  So far he's the only safety that has only taken reps with just the 1s.

Speaking of Terrell Edmunds, the Eagles showed some three-safety sets on defense today. Reed Blankenship and K'Von Wallace were on the back end, with Edmunds serving as a dime linebacker. That makes sense. Edmunds is listed at 6'1, 216, and could pass for an undersized linebacker. Sydney Brown got some second-team looks today after mostly playing with the third-team defense the first few days of camp. Blankenship continues to play exclusively with the 1's.

Damn, huge score. I put a way too obvious one in Carolina/Chicago and got dinged down to 109

Anybody else concerned that Jalen seems to be shredding our defense?  I'm glad that he's doing well.  I am just a bit concerned that this is a sign of things to come.

Only the first day in pads so too early for concerns. There is a brand new DC with a ton of new starters. I would expect the unit to take time to adjust. We also have no idea what the coaches are emphasizing in practices. These are scripted opportunities to assess and evaluate talent. There is no reason to assume that the two units are working independently of each other and competing.

Daily, if only they were at Lehigh. The OL/DL battles were epic to watch.

Not really since Hurts is a top 2-3 QB in the league and the other QBs on the roster are struggling.   Also feel like without the ability to hit a QB that training camp practices will naturally favor the offense

Where did his contract rank when he signed with the Eagles last year? Salaries are going to go up every year. Players are going to outperform and underperform the deals they sign. Nature of the business. It's year 2. I swear, the media just want to start some sort of controversy.

I actually agree with RTK. I think if Nolan Smith develops this year in the way they think he can, Reddick is a prime trade candidate after the season.

You wanna trade the team's best edge rusher since the 90s?

It was always pretty cheap the second he signed it. Honestly thought he was taking a home town discount to come play here. He made a little more on the open market than what they extended Josh Sweat for almost a year before, despite Reddick having better production.

If they have his replacement on the team in Nolan Smith and his cap hit jumps to $20 million you have to consider it. A lot depends on how Desai uses his pass rushers. If Smith and Reddick are on the field at the same time a lot, then extending Reddick makes more sense. However, if it's a Smith or Reddick on the field in 2024 and Smith shows he's capable, it's his job.

2023 first though.

It helps being old and remembering a long way back.  For the hockey ones; always go for the GOONS!  Wayne Van Dorp at 0.08% -- that's where the candy is

Reddick is a Philly guy. He’s not going anywhere.

I haven't learned my lesson yet. Players on teams this pre-season don't count. Damnit. Lost 2 tries by putting in Miles Sanders and Rodney McLeod.

If his young replacement looks like the real thing this season then yes.  He turns 28 this year, he's likely at his peak prime right now.  They would get an absolute monster haul for him next year.  They have a lot of elite talent and they won't be able to pay them all.  I'd rather trade Reddick for a huge haul of draft picks and be able to sign AJ, DeVonta, Dickerson amd Goedert to new deals especially if Nolan turns out to be the real deal.

I am still hoping Smith is flashing, and they are working on him filling roles that keeps him on the field. It is too early now, so he should be getting edge rushes exclusively. I just am hopeful he has more to offer.

My strategy is "how many busts can you name that fit the criteria". My Eagles/Browns answer was

Spoiler

Sean Jones, Dawks first failure replacement. Netted me a .1%

I thought he stayed for a ring

Will he get a LB contract or a DE contract since we use him as a DE?

I think Tanner McKee makes the roster just because of where he was drafted.  I doubt Mariota's spot is at risk because he would be a more effective runner as a QB.  My sense is that part of the move to Mariota was that having Minshew limited the offense.

If he keeps throwing the ball to the defense, his spot is definitely at risk.  No way we can go into the season with the backup playing like absolute 💩

If the Eqgles give Reddick a monster extension (which he is certainly deserving) that would start kicking in when he turns 30.  As great as he is does it make sense to kick him his huge pay day that will start hitting the cap once he turns 30 or instead sell him at a high point next offseason?

I screwed up the baseball one yesterday (or 2 days ago).  There was an MVP column with A's and Phillies and I put Dick Allen in the wrong place (he was MVP with the White Sox).  Then for Phillies/Cubs I meant to select Gary Matthews but clicked on Gary Matthews Jr. by mistake.  The board was ruined.

EDGE rusher unless he wants to take another paycut and get paid as a LB

If they can find a team that is willing and desperate enough to trade for Mariota then they should like they did with Flavco and then sign Wentz as the backup QB.

I mentioned Matt Corral a few days back. I think his game is perfect for the Eagles offense and he doesn't have a home in Carolina anymore with the #1 pick and HOF back up already in place.
