I always loved Brian Cushing. Wanted him on the Eagles. Give me a crazy LB please. He never lived up to his hype but man I want a dog like that in the front 7.

Can only imagine how insufferable this guy is today...

I feel like the Phillies every time they face alcantara never do anything then the marlins remove him and they win.

🤷‍♂️.  He's 0-4 for the last 7... well, 8 now.

The Eagles paid Mariota more than Minshew I believe.

Wonder if Eagles will make a move for a better backup QB at some point if Mariota continues to stink it up. Or if they chalk it up to camp not meaning much. Minshew apparently sucked in camp last year too.

Mariota is obviously not Hurts…but he is also not as bad as he’s looked in camp.  The truth is somewhere in the middle (as it usually is). Something tells me he would probably look a little better if he was playing with our #1 offense…and had a bit more time in this new offense

It’s the weirdest matchup they have. Anyway busted out this cowboy Phillies hat that got delivered today right as the middle of the 8th was taking place. So clearly the cap has magic in it

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!

Not a bad start to this critical series.  Like I said a couple days ago, they have to get 3 out of these 4.  2 for 2 is a nice start.  Wheeler throws tomorrow.  I'm feeling good about getting the 3 wins, and have some hope for the 4 game sweep.

Their august sets up well for them to get hot. I think they only had 11 games vs. teams over .500. The Mets having a fire sale helps as we play them 7 times in the last 10 games. struggled to beat them earlier in the year. But they look like they are gonna be just playing it out. So september looks much easier

Strangely, you get tunnel vision at times in terms of the standings... but the Phillies are 0.5 games back from having the 2nd best record in the NL.  Granted, they are going to be the 4 seed at best (and there's still a big grouping in the WC battle), but its hard to believe that they are right there and could be a division winner, if not being stuck in the division with the Braves.

Technically 2.5 games behind the dodgers and the dodgers play tonight so could be 2 or 3 by the end of the night (probably 3 as they face Oakland). Dodgers team isn’t as good as year’s past and a bunch of injuries to their rotation this year. Actually want he first wild card so if you win face (likely as they have the 2nd easiest schedule of the NL teams) the dodgers. They are very beatable. The Braves are just ridiculous. But they were good last year then strider got hurt and albies also got hurt. But i actually think the Phillies tend to play up to opponents like the rays and orioles. Even dbacks and dodgers the second time they faced them. Might not win but usually they play better so feel like some issues is focus at times

The Phillies need to take care of business against the bad teams in august. They have 13 games vs. nats, KC and the cardinals. Three of the worst teams in baseball. They could pretty much run away with the WC if you just go .500 in those other games and handle business unlike they did against pirates and nats in July.

Not sure why I didn't notice the loss column being different.   lol

Thank you for that clear as mud translation.

It was a joke.

The joke was that no one would be watching women's soccer unless the tv was broken.  It is not a particularly new joke.

I am intrigued by the QB depth situation.

At face value, Mariota is in the Hurts mold and slides in well for spot duty.  In reality, he'd probably be a glorified running back when called upon who just scampers around trying to move the sticks.  Contrast that with Minshew; he just gun slings it around looking for WRs to make a play.  Each is a big difference from Hurts, but that's a huge difference in what a temporary Hurts-less offense looks like in Minshew vs Mariota.  Minshew did not show well in spot duty last year, but I'd prefer that style of backup to the glorified running back.  (In a backup QB, you are probably getting one, the other, or an extreme caretaker).

Then we have Ian Book (extreme caretaker).  No one really knows who he is, but he has RPO experience, runs a bit (but not too much).  If he saw action, he's probably RPO with a 5-10 yard radius...lots of backs, TE's, and WR screens.

Lastly, there is Mckee.  That's a pure, immobile pocket passer who will look to push the ball downfield.

I see 4 QB's that have absolutely nothing in common.  Even for spa camp walkthroughs, it's interesting that they'll all be running the same offense.

Mariota is a good backup to have to run the plays Hurts would run. He has plenty of experience and he's a fit here. We'll get to see plenty of Book and McKee in preseason and find out more about them. I'm not so sure McKee is as immobile as you might think. I don't see him really being a threat on a read option or anything, but I'm not expecting a statue either.

I'm not worried one bit about Mariota.  Don't really care at all about how Mariota is doing in practices.   Actually,  it's not a bad result at all.  What if it was Hurts who was the one doing worse?  That's the bad result.

Hurts had the 3rd fastest QB run in the NFL last year.  Mariota had the second.  Mariota does not cost what Hurts costs.  He's still on the young side, and if he's the 2nd fastest runner at QB, he's still got the young legs.   If Mariota is good doing this,  I see no reason not to keep him indefinitely.   Maybe the fun innovative things with versatile freakbeasts might have Mariota instead of Hurts?  Or some scenarios where the fun innovative things include Mariota.

2nd fastest QB?  You want that.

It would great to see Mariota run a ton.  He has always run less than he should for a guy who ran a 4.52 40.   Hasn't broken 500 yards,  but his yards per carry was always high.   Last year was his high year for yards and carries.   Hurts, Jackson, Fields all had more carries than Mariota did last year.  Also Allen and Jones and Taysom Hill.   He's not RB sized, but WR sized.  Also is seen as fragile.  But he's top ras.

https://ras.football/ras-compare/?&p1=12072&p2=18964&pos=QB

RAS compare Mariota v Tyree Jackson at QB
Mariota - 9.97 Jackson - 9.95

They're both thin and fast.  Jackson is bigger and slower, his numbers across the board were worse, but slightly.  Very similar.  6036 v 6070   222 v 249,   quickness/agility is a Mariota advantage there - 6.87 3 cone v 7.09.
