So, Turner being a C- player would have the Phillies with a better record than the 69-37 record the Braves are at??

For shame, Sheil ..... such stupidity

I don't think that's what he's saying. They'd easily be in first for the wild card though.

Exactly - they wouldn't be clawing for the third wildcard position - they'd be firmly entrenched in first for it.

Prediction: If Trey Sermon has a great preseason they will go with him over Penny and cut Penny.

I agree with this

Fine by me. How would they do onside kicks or surprise snide kicks?

They go with the Eagles 4th and 20 play plan.

Trade Boston Scott to Indy

Yup. Makes too much sense for both sides.

Each team picks the 5 strongest guys on the team and they do tug of war at midfield

What I get from this quote is what practice has all but confirmed so far. "A spot open".  This means my boy Blankenship has locked up and secured one of thevstarting safety spots.

Them trying out 20 different guys at kick returner tells me they could move on from Scott.

Can make the same argument with nola and realmuto. Nola isnt inconsistent every other game (has yet to have a month where his era is under 4 for the month) and pitching like 2022 and not giving up lead league in HRs they’d be better off. If relamuto didn’t hit a team worse .195 with Risp and leave the most runners in scoring position stranded on the team they’d be better off. I’d add thomson’s ineptitude at times  managing has also cost the Phillies at least 6 games this year.

Turner has been as bad as you can be. And deserves the ire from fans for being as awful as he has. but could make the same comment if they got better versions of nola, realmuto and managing from Thomson they’d also be much better off in the WC.

If the Phillies won the games they lost, they would be in good position.

First scare of camp.

Craziest Phillies season in 30 years…

My go-to podcast is Philly Special for analysis, although I wish Solak would tone it down 20%.

Too many Eagles podcasts say nothing interesting.

I like Birds with Friends, BGN and Philly Special.  Solak gets annoying quickly because he did that scouting academy and he acts like what he learned is the be all and end all of technique.  He has decent insight but ignores nuance.  Sheil makes up for him.  I think Bo and Zach still have the best takes on practice observation.  Bo, despite his ability to go off topic, has good eye for the game and what is going on with the team.  I think Kempski and BLG are also both informative.  Kempski also pays attention to little details on the field.

There goes our already paper thin linebacking corps.

You have the best insight.

I'm sure it's minor with Dean but that group is the one weak spot on the team.  Safety I think has enough for 2 to emerge but LB is very iffy

What spot did they finish in last year, and how did the 101-win first wildcard team do?

Good lord, Trea.  What happened to you?  He was such a spark plug in both Washington and LA.  His batting average, OPS are both WAY down, his K rate is WAY up.   In fact, he's on pace to set a new career high for the number of strikeouts.

This could be forgivable if his defense was elite, and that does not look like that's the case at all.  If possible, he's regressed there, too.  He looks like a totally different player than he was in LA and Washington.

I wonder if he's been playing through an injury that he hasn't disclosed publicly?

It's even weirder because he was on fire for the WBC a few weeks before the season.

More likely just having a castellanos first year thing that he needs to just get away in the offseason and get his mind right.

I brought up in the Phillies thread i wouldn’t be entirely shocked at the end of the year they say he was dealing with an injury most of the year (first 3 weeks of the year he was actually good. .308/.357/.429/.786) . got hurt at the end of the WBC or start of the year. i don’t think they wouldn’t put that out there if he did get hurt during WBC due to backlash it would cause (see Mets fans when Diaz got hurt)

I wouldn't be foolish enough to assume that they are able to repeat what they did last year.  But then again, baseball is all about getting hot at the right time.  The Giants won a couple titles in the last decade that way.
