Tyler Steen taking left tackle reps with the second team today probably means that Jurgens is your starting RG this year.

Mariota is never going to look good in these settings.

You can tell these beat reporters didn't watch any off-season tape of Mariota

I wouldn't be foolish enough to assume that they are able to repeat what they did last year.  But then again, baseball is all about getting hot at the right time.  The Giants won a couple titles in the last decade that way.

I'm not trying to argue Turner has been good; it's apparent he's trying to justify his huge contract and his play reflects just the opposite.  I just don't think it's important, yet -- not to the degree the tweet asserts.  IIRC Hoskins was junk most of last season, got hot in the playoffs after a horrid start to the postseason, and everyone remembers how he finished.

It's possible Turner gets hot down the stretch and into the postseason, although I might not bet a nickel on it.

Howie gets rightfully criticized for some of his massive draft misses (Dillard, Reagor, etc.). But 2018 was a masterpiece. ESPN posted a re-draft, and 3 of our guys went in the 1st round. Mailata goes 21, Goedert 24 and Sweat 29. Using 7th, 2nd and 4th round picks, respectively, on those guys was a homerun. The 2 guys not in the first round are Maddox, an above average slot corner, and Matt Pryor, a 6th round pick who is a fringe starter at tackle.

Maybe just coincidence but the 3 everyday players I’d argue have been the most inconsistent all year are Turner, realmuto and schwarber. All three played in the WBC. Schwarber is the closest to what his normal is and yet still below his standards (still below his career average, OBP, slugging and OPS. about to have his worst average of his career for any season, second worse OBP, second worst slugging and worst OPS ). relamuto and Turner really haven’t been close to theirs.

Mailata going 21 is an absolute travesty. Easy top 10 pick.

Thank God. Wallace getting 1st team reps is not a good sign for his development, its a statement of what bad shape the position is in on this team. Unless Sydney Brown can handle the starting job as a rookie and save it, its Fd.

He should get every 1st team rep to see if he can handle it or if a trade needs to be made.

Not heard much about Sydney Brown - thought he be making some waves by now

I don’t know I’m always hesitant to put big expectations on rookies outside of the first round. Especially at a position like safety. I do wonder if Edmunds, brown and Wallace struggle through camp and in the preseason if they would go to the market and bring in someone like John Johnson, or try to make a trade

Well, I guess that's the plan for linebacker this season?  Can't be good for Nolan Smith's development to be switched around like that.

I'm sure it's minor with Dean but that group is the one weak spot on the team.  Safety I think has enough for 2 to emerge but LB is very iffy

I am optimistic about the LBs.  It's not like the team is relying on 2 undrafted UDFAs.  I liked what I saw out of Ellis and Dean in limited snaps last season.  I think Desai is going to play a fair amount of heavy nickel with a 3rd safety.  So I think we will see Edmunds, Blankenship and to some extent Brown playing towards the LOS.  Given the d-line the LBs should not have to fight through a ton of traffic to make plays.  They just need to be solid tacklers, decent at coverage and have decent instincts.

It was the first snaps he took there all off-season. Seems much more likely because they were down Dean all day.

Probably just trying to see what he can and cannot handle.  He's obviously good overall and doing a decent job in coverage so far so the more they can get him on the field, the better.  Could be lethal with his speed as a joker type player they can move around and hide.

Time to make a move Howie. LB and S are both disasters waiting to happen.

I mean the team is only a few days into camp with a new DC. Also Wallace may have come in and just looked better.  He wouldn't be the first safety to take time to develop.  He's only just turned 25.  Jordan Poyer wasn't a starter his first 3 seasons either.  He has the physical tools. He just does not get himself into position.  I also think that Desai is going to play with more 3 safety looks.  I wouldn't be suprised if what Desai is doing is to see who is the 3rd safety because he wants Edmunds to play in the box.

I think the team was just looking ahead to the grueling stretch of practice tomorrow after practice today. Today was a trap practice.

Prediction: If Trey Sermon has a great preseason they will go with him over Penny and cut Penny.

Not sure if there’s anything to it but Reub wrote a big article about Boston Scott and if there’s room for him on the team. Of course it was littered with Reuben Frank stats and all of the Giants killer stuff. Swift and Gainwell are locks. Penny is a near lock. The 4th RB spot is between Scott/Sermon. Boston Scott is going on 29. Sermon is 24. I just think they have high hopes for Sermon. He also offers a different kind of back than the rest on the team.
