And so it begins.  K’Von getting 1st team reps just wasn’t cutting it.

I'm not trying to argue Turner has been good; it's apparent he's trying to justify his huge contract and his play reflects just the opposite.  I just don't think it's important, yet -- not to the degree the tweet asserts.  IIRC Hoskins was junk most of last season, got hot in the playoffs after a horrid start to the postseason, and everyone remembers how he finished.

It's possible Turner gets hot down the stretch and into the postseason, although I might not bet a nickel on it.

Assuming they make it into the postseason, of course.

Well, I guess that's the plan for linebacker this season?  Can't be good for Nolan Smith's development to be switched around like that.

Weren’t there many saying he has all the tools to be an off ball LB that can rush the passer?  I think it would be a great development if he can be a "real”LB.

Tyler Steen taking left tackle reps with the second team today probably means that Jurgens is your starting RG this year.

Or it means they like have contingencies in place. There’s nothing wrong with trying to see who can play where in case of an emergency.

Time to make a move Howie. LB and S are both disasters waiting to happen.

Our safeties are fine.

Why?

Next to RG, backup OT is the biggest need on the o-line.  Also, at this point you just have to trust that Stoutland knows what he is doing.

Wonder if they keep Dean and Bradley out of practice tomorrow since it's the first back to back.

I think safety has more talent than LB, but I actually think safety is the one that could be more of a problem during the season. Mainly because I think it's a more important position and not as easy to hide. The Eagles are really counting on Blankenship being a legit starter this season, which is pretty risky given such limited showcasing so far, and after that it's up in the air. I could easily see a scenario where a few weeks into the season it's like uh oh, the Eagles overlooked this position. Especially since rightly or wrongly, CGJ was tops in the NFL in INTs last season, whoever plays this year is going to be compared to last year's safety play.

Or it means they view him as a backup this year, which is the easy answer. If there was a competition at rg, he wouldn't be burning practice reps moving around. It makes zero sense to do that.

We suffer from too much information.  It would be better if every practice was closed to everyone including the media.  That way the team would appear fully armed like Athena springing from the brow of Zeus at the first Preseason game.

To each their own. We’re seeing K’Von Wallace getting most 1st team reps. If that’s fine then sure.

Haven’t heard a peep about Edmunds. Is he going the route of Jaquiski Tartt?

Hey, I’ve wanted Wallace off this team the last 2 years. If he’s dedicated himself and improved his game that he deserves reps with the 1s, that would be terrific. I think many viewed him as a potential starter when he was drafted. I just don’t think that’s the case. I think they are just keeping the seat warm until Brown is more comfortable.

I just hope we haven’t built Sidney Brown up as this savior at the position. I think he’s a good player but I don’t want to get my hopes up that we have some steal on our hands.

Remember JaCoby Stevens. He was going to come in and be this hybrid LB/S

So, Turner being a C- player would have the Phillies with a better record than the 69-37 record the Braves are at??

For shame, Sheil ..... such stupidity

Nice strawman.  That's not what he said.  He said that they'd be a totally different team.   And, it's possible.  I can count at least 5 games that they'd have won if not for his poorly timed errors or hitting into a ton of double plays.  Would that mean they catch the Braves?  Maybe not.  But it would give them a comfortable lead for the top WC spot.

Jon Gannon too big time for Sirianni.

Can make the same argument with nola and realmuto. Nola isnt inconsistent every other game (has yet to have a month where his era is under 4 for the month) and pitching like 2022 and not giving up lead league in HRs they’d be better off. If relamuto didn’t hit a team worse .195 with Risp and leave the most runners in scoring position stranded on the team they’d be better off. I’d add thomson’s ineptitude at times  managing has also cost the Phillies at least 6 games this year.

Turner has been as bad as you can be. And deserves the ire from fans for being as awful as he has. but could make the same comment if they got better versions of nola, realmuto and managing from Thomson they’d also be much better off in the WC.

Welcome back, JT!

Meh.  He’s just throwing interceptions at the same rate as Dak.

Generally speaking, the Steelers aren’t stupid. Under normal circumstances they’re not going to let a talented player out of their building. I think the most we can realistically expect from Edmunds is that he doesn’t suck back there. That’s probably not going to be the case for Wallace unfortunately. I’ve seen enough of him by now to know he's no good.

Yup. The 3 out of 4 days off might have helped him. He’s caught the most innings this year of any catcher. They’ve basically run him into the ground since he’s got here cause Knapp was unplayable and stubbs they only just use once a week. He’s caught the most innings of any catcher over the last 3 years. Im actually surprised knowing they might trade O’hoppe last deadline that they didn’t draft a catcher relatively high these last two drafts to develop to eventually replace him and maybe the last couple years lessen his burden behind the plate.

As injuries go... a little abrasion on the palm of his right hand is a blessing.

I understand where you are coming from and Turner's expected to be among the elite players in MLB.

That said, his WAR for the year is still +0.9 - meaning having him play SS over a replacement level player (On both offense and defense) means that he technically hasn't "cost us" any games.  He's helped us win almost 1 game more - over a replacement level player

Now all that said, a player making what he's making should have a much higher WAR, closer to 5.0.  So going by that metric, he has cost us close to 3-4 games based on what a player of "his level" is EXPECTED to do.

Hope that helps.  ;)

They seem to be giving a lot of reps to every player and around different positions and up and down as well.  Like that.  Learning who is best at some key OL backup positions is great.  Heck, I like that Penny and Brown got some return snaps today.  On any given Sunday, anything can happen.
