Only if he can prove they acted with malice (e.g. the charges were based on evidence fabricated by them) which is extremely unlikely. If there was enough evidence to present to a grand jury to move forward with charging him, the chances he has of winning a lawsuit are almost zero.

There's a massive chasm between actual innocence and being proven guilty of a crime in a court of law. Sills very well could have committed a crime, but avoided conviction for a variety of reasons. Criminals walk free out of a courtroom every single day in this country.

Duke lacrosse scandal was an example of suing the DA...but like you said, they could prove he acted with malice.

It's not a fight lol. I made a slight correction to a Tolentino tweet and he tried to correct my correction. So it led to a back and forth.

For the Eagles it doesn't matter. Situation is resolved on their end.

You missed the point of my question which was trying to understand why the semantic difference between "innocent” and "not guilty” matters to you personally.  It seems from your comments and their vehemence that we are seeing your existential core speaking.

IMO, the biggest potential stumbling blocks that could wreck the season this year:

1. OL health.

2. OL health.

3. CB decline.

4. New blood at safety failing to be supported by top end CB play due to #3.

5. Lack of deep threat or deep passing game on offense.

I think everything else is locked and loaded.  I'm not worried about losing Hargrave, LB, or RB.

Linebacker has me very concerned.

I think the DL will do a very good job making their job easier.  I also have high expectations for Dean.  I think he could be the best, longest tenured LB we have seen in a generation (or two, or three) of Eagles LBs.  I do think Morrow sucks, but am curious to see if Elliss/Bradley can push there.  Either way, I suspect they'll be able to hide that second spot in a similar way that we have seen with their weak link LB in the last few years.

You seem to be the guy fixating on what was a pretty clear point that others decided to argue against for whatever reason.

Right, it can happen, but it's quite rare. DAs aren't the ones investing the crime and collecting evidence, all that gets handed to them so they can decide whether to move forward or not.

All I've heard and read is that Dean hasn't really shown much in training camp. I think we're putting a lot of hope in somebody who hasn't really shown much yet. And overall there's no depth there either.

We will get eaten alive by TE's this year but should be very stout against the run and shutting down deep passes with our CBs. If teams are forced to use their TEs to beat us, we are in great shape.

Bo really went in on the LBs today and somewhat on the safeties OL 2nd/3rd teamers. Most of the beat guys saying absolutely no one has stood out at LB and it could be a bit of a problem. I forget what beat guy said even last year some of the LBs stood out in camp, but this year it's been a whole lot of nothing.

And that is 100% unsurprising

This isn't even close to being accurate.

What is accurate in your opinion?

He should get some sort of compensation for having his life uprooted and wrecked for nothing.

That is a very male-centric perspective.  How do you feel about all the women who are actually raped, but are deemed”guilty until proven innocent” by society and District Attorneys and the courts.  If you put te Sills cases on one side of the scales and the women’s cases on the other side there is nothing like balance.

Not my opinion. There is no opinion in this case. There is a fact, and if you want to find out what that fact is, just google "not guilty versus innocence."

It isn’t a clear point at all.  Innocent and not guilty are Siamese Twins.

Not as rare as you'd think, or there wouldn't be so many wrongful convictions.

Sojme DAs see winning cases as a stepping stone to higher positions, and want to win at any cost, others are a bit fanatical and justify cutting corners to put people away they consider bad actors (like withholding evidence from the defense). There's a self-selection process at work - prosecutors tend to see them selves as defenders of society, and can prioritize winning ahead of legal principles.

QB health isn't on the list?

You're confusing two different things. Wrongful convictions can happen irrespective of malice on the part of the DA. A lot of times, it involves shady or illegal conduct from investigators or other parties before it ever gets to the DA. Also, I'm not saying DAs rarely engage in criminal misconduct, I'm saying successfully proving that in a lawsuit is very rare.

I totally understand that logic and have used it myself but there's a not small chance that Dean isn't that good or is injury-prone and the rest of the corps are poor.  It would definitely be a weak spot teams go after which gets compounded if the safeties are below average.  I have higher hopes that the safeties will be average but the scenario where the middle of the field is a huge weakness is certainly not that unlikely

Really, really wanted Washington in the draft. More happy that he didn't go to Dallas though.

I used to study criminal justice, so the differentiation matters to me, it's something I'm very passionate about.

He's a bad man! Going to be a force at the NFL level. UGA's offense was so stacked, especially with Brock Bowers at TE, that Washington didn't get the looks he'll get with Pittsburgh. He essentially was a 6th OL with the Dawgs.

Wouldn't shock me to see him get 6-8 TDs this year. Red zone dominator.

Rookie TEs never seem to do well

The thing is, they also have Pat Freiermuth, who I think can be a top 5 TE in the league. If Kenny Pickett progresses, that offense has talent to be lethal. Pickens, Calvin Austin, Diontae Johnson at WR with those two at TE. Those are some major weapons.

They've also taken a gamble on several veteran WR who could contribute. Allen Robinson, Miles Boykin and Hakeem Butler all have serious talent. The Steelers just know WR and LB. If anyone can get just one of those veterans to produce, it's the Steelers.

Wow, I forgot about Freiermuth. Might be one of the best TE tandems in the league by the end of the year.

Pickett is going to have a stable of weapons. No reason for him not to make a leap in Year 2. How is their OL? Thought I remember reading somewhere it was bottom 10.
