All these things exist, but not to the extent people supposedly "remember" them.

That rain delay completely ruined the banner reveal. They were so pressed for time after the delay that the whole pre-game event was super-rushed. "Oh look...the cloak just dropped...didn't really get much of a warning in advance to look over there to see it actually happen!"

I'm not saying I wouldn't like more sacks or anything. Thus far, he hasn't justified the trade up that was made to draft him. He hasn't been a complete bum, though. He's been solid at worst. A couple of his roughing the passer calls were BS and should have been sacks too. IDK ... I think some people look at him and hate him mostly because of his draft status. If you ignore how a player got here and evaluate him on how he performed within his responsibilities, you might have a more favorable impression of him. I thought he was solid against the run. On most occasions, he reliably set the edge. He never quit on plays (which sometimes leads to a major penalty). I would rather have a guy hustling every play until the whistle and getting 2 or 3 unnecessary roughness penalties in one season, than a guy that quits anytime a play is a few steps away and gives up, making big offensive plays even bigger.

I would rather have the good and the bad from Derek Barnett any season for what he's been paid than get the production we got from Ryan Kerrigan and his 330 snaps in 2021 (3 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 QB hits). Solid is better than invisible. 

I don't even remember his 3 tackles.

He has 21.5 career sacks.  So he’s +1.5 for his career in sacks to penalties accepted.  Is that a problem?

It's not just the amount of penalties it's when they happen that sticks out in people's memories, some of his penalties on top of being penalties have just been compacted by the idiocy of those moments by Barnett.

Let’s not perpetuate the narrative that Barnett is a stud run stopping DE.  He’s high effort in the run game and doesn’t blow off the responsibility.   So I’ll give him that.  But he’s a 260lb soft physique that will get pushed around by any OT that gets his hands on him, just like most 4-3 edge rushers.
